How To Write Your Most Popular Blog Post

Want to write a popular blog post?
most popular blog post

Everybody does!

Popular blog posts can be described as the articles on your blog that gets the most comments, or sometimes the most views.

Creating such a blog post all depends on how you write and present that article to your readers.

The truth can be said about a popular song. The people who listen and love a popular song liked the way that the singer has presented it and also the message that is being delivered in the song.

Therefore, writing your most popular post often depends on you the writer and what you are writing about.

I have been blogging for some time now and I have written some really popular blog posts on my blog, on blogging contests which helped me to make some money and even on this blog.

Here are my most popular guest posts on this blog:

Want to know my trick into writing popular articles?

This month on my blog, I wrote 3 articles that landed in the second, third and forth spot on my blog as the most popular articles there.

Imagine that!

Those 3 articles got more comments than the other existing articles that were on my blog for more than 6 or more months. Those articles got a total of 272 comments and I think this is an amazing accomplishment.

Writing Your Most Popular Blog Post

There no set formula that you can use to write your most popular blog post. It can happen to any of your blog post without you doing anything extra.

Sometimes you may write an article and think that this article will go viral and get the most comments ever. But when you publish it, the article only get about 20 comments.

So what is needed to write popular blog posts?

Here are my tips for writing a popular blog post

Give The Audience What They Want

If you truly want your blog posts to be popular, then one thing that I have noticed is that you have to give your blog readers what they want.

This is pretty simple and straight forward!

If I find a blog post with information that suites my need and it has information that can benefit me, then no doubt I am going to be inspired to make a comment on that article. I am going to want to leave a comment thanking the author of that wonderful article because the information that was written was something that I was looking for.

When writing blog posts, don't just write because you want to publish something on your blog. You want to deliver information that your readers want.

Browse forums, set up a poll, ask on Twitter what information your readers want. Doing this will help you to write blog posts that are targeted to your readers.

This will do the trick in writing your most popular blog post.

Reply To Your Comments

If you really want your blog post to be popular then replying to comments isn't an option.

It is a must!

Replying to each comment left on your blog post can help you do double up on the total amount of comments that your article will get.

For example, if you write an article and it gets 58 comments, then replying to each comment will get you a total of 116 comments.

Another reason for replying to comments is that it helps to build a strong community around your blog.

Having a strong blogging community will help you reach blogging success in no time. This also encourages the commentator to come back and leave more comments if you engage them in a discussion.

Reply to each comment and this will help to make your blog post popular and also help to build up your blog.

Write Less, Promote More

Have you ever tried this method of getting your blog post to be popular?

Writing less means that you doesn't mean that you write a short article. It means that you write articles a few days a part and for the days that you don't write then you take that time to promote your blog post.

Doing this will help to make your blog post get popular.

Ask your friends online to leave a comment, promote on social media sites, social networking sites and also email it to your list if you have a mailing list.

It's All About Quality Content And Delivery

Quality content is the best thing to have on your blog and should be done while writing your blog posts. When a blog post is popular this can be a result from quality content.

The better the content then the more popular the post will become.

You also have to take in mind the way that you will deliver this content to your audience.

If you deliver your blog post in a way which is straight forward and easy to understand then your blog post will get popular in no time.

Take for instance my 2nd most popular article on my blog (How To Make Money From Your Blog By Selling Advertisements) 4th most popular article on my blog (How To Make Your First $100 From Your Blog)

In those articles I gave tips on how to make money from your blog selling advertisements and tips on how to make your $100 from your blog. I made sure to write articles on the topics that people want to read about.

The content was clear and delivery was straight forward.

If you try that approach then I guarantee that you will be writing popular blog posts in no time.

  1. Hi Kharim,
Good to read your post here.
I’m a regular reader on your blog and can confirm you’ve got a couple of popular articles there. You also have provided solid tips on how to go about this.

One way is to write on what your readers are interested in. It’s easy to know this. You just have to check stats of your past articles and see what was popular. Do a better article around the same subject. Chances are you will get more buzz around it. For instance, your article on “…Your First $100 …” was popular. Now if you do another article on something “Steps to generate $5000/month from your blog” or something similar and provide more solid actionable materials, this will even be more popular.

Thanks for sharing your tips Dude!

Hey! It’s weekend. Have fun and take care

    1. One can’t deliver their most popular blog posts when they think ONLY about the result.

You primary goal should be: delivering something awesome, something that creates curiosity on your audience.

These kinda blog posts have the tendency to going viral. Great share Kharim!

P.S: I’ve written a blog post with the same title 5 months back on my blog 😉

      1. We’ll if I say honestly, then I liked Rahul’s Post than this.

Actually there are 4 blogs having the same titled post:

Pro-blogger, Learn Blog Tips, Basic Blog Tips and Think Traffic.

I liked the point, Write LEss, Promote more.

        Great article !

      2. Hi Rahul,

You are right on that pal. Delivering what your audience want is the best way to go at it.

I remembered your blog post as well. 🙂

        Thanks for the comment.

    2. Hey Enstine,

I love your comment and must agree with the points that you made.

Its great to check past posts and see what was popular as you mentioned and then write on the same topic but do a better write up. That will sure to be more popular.

Also with the generating $5000 from a blog monthly will be a great post.

Thanks for the thought and thanks for the comment.

  2. Hi..!! Karmin Its always a pleaure to read your blog posts. You always add twist and quality to your post. Usually people look for trendy topics so if you can keep up to date your blog visiters then you all posts will be popular

    1. Hey Guppu,

I must agree with you. If you are a great write that always deliver awesome content to your readers, they will always look forward to you posting something. Hence all your posts will become popular.

Great comment and thanks for your input.

  3. Nice tips Kharim. If bloggers stop writing for search engines and write for human beings than half of the work in writing a popular blog post is half done. Now for the other half, some TLC is required, being personal also helps such as narrating a personal experience. Being funny also helps. I have seen lots of regurgitated content from one blog to another without giving much thought. Its all about being honest to yourself and to the reader.

    1. Hi Shalu,

I strongly agree with you. If one writes for humans instead of bots then you are on the road to writing a popular blog post. We have to give humans what they want instead of trying to please the search engines.

      Thanks for the comment.

  4. Really great guide. I think I am now ready for my next post : And I will make sure to refer this article.

What I personally think is that I always failed in promotion. I always share my article to ” only ” bookmarking sites, but never cared to promote it through comments, forums or other ways. But days have changed ” atleast from today “..

    1. Hey Vivek,

Not only you fail to do promotion. Lots of other new bloggers fail to promote their new blog post and this is why they hardly get comments on their articles.

This is why I posted the point that you should write less and promote more. This way your posts gets more exposure.

Thanks for the comment and hope this work out well for you.

  5. Nice write up Kharim Tomlinson
I always prefer replying to my comments. It helps us to interact with our visitors. Even some of them may convert in to readers, if we reply them politely

    1. Yep! That is a great way to get more comments as well. Replying to comments and also try to build a community around your blog. That will help greatly!

      Thanks for the comment.

  6. Hi Kharim, very nice share. I will try to use these my blog is just new and i hope i could get more visitors on it and have popular posts as well.

    1. Hey Daniel,

All you have to do is promote your new blog to the fullest. This is the only way you will get traffic to your blog.

      Thanks for the comment.

  7. Awesome tips Kharim.
I totally agree with you. Replying to comments is a must. I had written a couple of posts on famoubloggers.net and I too have noticed that. Then comes the quality of the article. Rather than saying about quality, I would say the article should be interesting for the audience. That’s what exactly why one should write for the people.
Another thing is to be popular for a long time. That’s the tough part. May be if you write some post on i-phone5 or something, it can yield you a post which is popular for some specific time, say a week or so.

    1. Hey Jakes,

You are so right about that pal. Quality content with interesting points is what will help to make our posts popular. Have to remember that our readers will want a bit of entertainment in our article so try not to be boring.

      Thanks for the comment.

  8. Giving the readers what they want is the key. If you can solve their problem in the most precise way, surely not only they will visit and engage but will also spread the word!

  9. You’re right, giving your readers what they want is important. Being a successful writer takes both personal drive and a willingness to respond to your readers. You can’t just write entirely for yourself. Which is also why, like you said, it’s really important to personally respond to every comment you do receive. I think this is a great practice and encourages both courtesy and community. Checking stats of past articles is the best way to get a solid impression of what your readers do like. Good tips!

    1. Hey Ameenah,

I always try my best to respond to comments left on my article.

Your readers are looking for a reply if they have made a comment on your blog.

Also give readers what they want and as mentioned you can check past posts to see what was popular and continue to write on that line.

      Thanks for the comment.

  10. Hi Kharim, I love this line “write less promote more”. You simply great!! Definitely after a good work, a buzz need to shout.

  11. Hey Kharim, Those are some great tips.

Keeping your audience in mind when writing and trying to give them what they want will surely make the post popular. After reading your article here, I’ve responded to some of the comment on my guest post here at BBT.

Writing less and promoting more is great formula for me.

    1. Hey Eshan,

Have you realized my blog with the comments and the posting as well?

This is because I write less and promote more and my traffic is good and getting blog comments.

Try it, it will work for you.

      Thanks for the comment.

  12. Of course promoting comes through multiple actions, one which you mentioned being responding to comments, the other being to reach out to other blogs and comment there. And of course writing posts that people want to read and comment on; most important of all. Good stuff Kharim.

    1. Hey Mitch,

Replying to comments is a must and also giving people what they want to read by publishing quality stuff and not writing only for search engine rankings.

      Thanks for the comment bro.

  13. Hello Kharim
I think you are a successful blogger and your contents always has potential that can be kinetic in the form of online income for you and all of the commentators that learn from you.

  14. More great tips and advice Ileane!
One of the features I miss about having a wordpress blog was the ability to highlight a single post and make it sticky, keep it at the top.
Blogger has no way of keeping a popular post at the top of the page.
    Greg

    1. I must agree with you.

Making your post sticky in WordPress allows you to promote that post and letting it stay at the top. This way more people will see that post on the front page and gets more views.

      Thanks for that comment.

  15. i think its more about trial and error, every blog has its own audience and taste may vary from blog to another. As you mentioned, asking and interacting with the subscribers and followers can yield better results.

Our own blog’s traffic holds the real key to this, we need to track and monitor our blog’s traffic in order to know whats being liked?

    Thanks for sharing this.

    1. I definitely agree to the trial and error thing. We can never tell what really work if we will not take risks and do our best in each and every category. Success is 90% hard work.

    2. The key thing to make a your blog post interesting for your readers. Don’t write on boring topics and try your best to interact with them.

      Thanks for the comment.

  16. Kharim, you are a very good article writer. I just wanted to tell you that.

You are also such a good guest writer, and your track record and examples in this article show to proof exactly that.

All of your points need to be read carefully by many and followed exactly.

    You hear that everyone! 🙂

Thanks again for another master piece my friend 🙂

  17. Kharim,
I partially agree with what you say.I don’t think comments alone cant determine the popularity of a post.
But It’s true that Promotion is the best way to get popular it may be though search engine optimization or Some other Social network. For newbie Bloggers it should be 20% content & 80 % Promotion

    1. Hey Chris,

Well I think that comments does show the amount of traffic that the post has. The more views a post gets then the more comments it will get. Agree?

Sometimes people may read a post and not comment. So if you have lots of comments then this means that there have been lots of views to that post. And remember that this post is about writing your most popular post on your blog.

So in your sidebar the post with the most comments will be at top and this will be the popular blog post.

      Thanks for the comment.

  18. i like your all blog because you have a great talent.i agree with you that use minimum words and define more.effective article which attract to the bloggers is also be the main source.i like your blog.

    1. Yep a short post that is packed with information and solid facts will surly be a popular post.

Just be sure that it is something that your blog readers want to read.

      Thanks for the comment.

  19. “If you really want your blog post to be popular then replying to comments isn’t an option.
    It is a must!”
This is the best sentence from the article.
Thank you for your advice. It helped me a lot and improved my mood 🙂 Now, I know how to behave correctly 🙂

  20. Hey Ravi,

The write less and promote more strategy has worked really great for me in getting my blog posts more popular.

    Thanks for the comment pal.

  21. I agree with you, Mike.

Replying to comments is extremely important. This is how you are going to get traffic coming back to your blog. Helps with the up building of your blogging community.

    Thanks for the comment pal.

  22. Hi Kharim!

Excellent post and great tips and I agree with you on that there is no set formula to write the famous blog post as I have to find the different ways to get my blog post most popular on my blog and in the end I am glad to find it.

Certainly, writing a popular blog post is a huge challenge in itself but I think if you writing consistently and writing accordingly to your readers requirements and more importantly providing your readers the solution of their issues and interacting them in comments certainly make this happen.

For me, interacting and producing problem solving posts for the readers are the key to write popular blog post.

    1. Hey Ayaz,

I also find out that when you write on topics that aren’t really popular and topics that people want to hear about can make your articles popular.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  23. Taking a few days and doing promotion in the meantime is great. But I think it would be better if you got guestposts in the meantime and they could promote those to their list..

    1. Hey Bram,

Promotion means blog commenting, forum posting, guest posting, social networking, email marketing, etc.

When you do all of those then you can get traffic. That right there is promotion.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  24. Hi Kharim,

Well, I’m always reply to comments, ask for subscribe, follow, promote more than I write… but I missed one thing, and you’ve got that one thing. It is to ask what my friends and readers really want to know more about…

    Thank you – Ferb

  25. Great Tips Kharim, I have to agree with you 100% about writing less and promoting more.

I use to think that I had to write a post every day, but I’ve found that if I simply create a more quality post that focuses on delivering the most useful information and writing in a style that my readers will appreciate while also using good basic SEO techniques, that’s really all I need. The rest of my time is much better spent on promoting that post.

    Liz 🙂

    1. Hey Liz,

I tried the writing and publishing everyday and that didn’t work out too well for me.

      It caused me to burnout.

So writing less and promote more is the best option for me.

      Thanks for the comment.

  26. Being a blogger that most of us are, we can also check popular posts of other writers in our niche and write about something like that, it usually helps when you don’t feel like writing a blog post. Nice post tho. Thanks for sharing

    1. Hey Derek,

      I love that point.

Checking out other blogs in our niche and writing a post similar can work ing getting your blog and that post popular as well.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  27. This is so helpful. I like what you said about writing less and promoting more, because I think that some people think you can just keep cranking out posts and never promote, and you’ll end up as a popular blog. Usually, thats not the case though.

What blogs do you recommend for promoting? And how have you made advertising work for your blog?

Thanks for the greart article. – Amy Bales, balescene.blogspot.com

    1. Hey Amy,

I have done the write less and promote more trick, and this has worked well in getting more comments on my latest articles.

      I promote my latest articles.

      Thanks for the comment.

  28. that is the great content and helpful for me. Well, right now I am stacking with the blog article. I try to do the guest in the aim to get more articles and make my blog is the popular blog. But now to make me more sense about this.

    Thanks a lot.

  29. Nice Tips you shared here Kharim, I have also found long and detailed post to be popular.
Give your readers a detailed post on a subject and they will love you for it.

    1. Hi Joseph,

      I must agree with you.

Long post especially the ones that are full with juicy information, they can get real popular.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  30. Great Tips on how to write popular post. I am doing blogging since a year but still many times fails to understand how to deliver what my audience are looking for. You really have given many important tips to write lucrative.

  33. Great article Kharim, in my opinion what makes a blog stand out is the awesome content that’s published, so only after having that you can think about marketing and promoting your blog

    1. Hey Phillip,

I agree with you pal. Having strong blog content and doing promotion of your blog is the best way to go for blogging success.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  34. Hi Kharim, Thanks for the tips. I always to take time to reply to each comments form my readers. This is to keep them read my blog.

    1. Hi Andre,

Replying to comments is a must for me when it comes to blogging.

This helps to generate traffic back to my blog and also creates the pathway for conversations in the blogosphere.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  35. Nice article, this blog really practices what it preaches in terms of providing solid content. I’ve promoted many of my posts and saw the best results from linking them on Reddit. If you post at certain times of the day when traffic is very busy there, and use very catchy titles, you can score amazing surges in traffic. I haven’t seen much sucess elsewhere, not sure why.

    1. Hey Andy D,

I have used Reddit but didn’t get the results that I thought that I would have gotten when it came to promoting my blog posts.

I guess I need to give it another try.

      Thanks for the comment.

  36. Hi Kharim,
Writing popular blog posts is really a challenging task. But following the points illustrated by you can really help to ease the task substantially. I do agree that blogging requires regular, concentrated and dedicated efforts to popularize a blog. Writing quality content and following promotional techniques can deliver the desired results.
    Excellent post indeed.
    Regards.
    Ramit

    1. Hi Ramit,

Quality does play a big role when it comes to writing popular blog posts.

When it comes to promotion as well, it is a requirement if you desire your blog and articles to be popular.

      Thanks for your comment.

    1. Page views does count. But what if some of those page views belongs to robots… I am just saying.

So this is the reason why I highlighted comments.

      Thanks for the comment.

  37. Hi Kharim,
Thank for excellent post. Having heard over and over that “content is king” I guess I have just dismissed my role in the entire thing. As such, I have found no rhyme or reason to why certain posts are popular and take off and others languish. But add me to the equation and it starts to make a bit more sense. If I can continue to solve problems for readers and give them ideas and inspiration while remaining myself, I might be on to something.

    1. Hey Sanoth,

Once you give the people what they want then you are good to go. People want great quality content to read and once this is present on your blog then you have nothing to worry about.

      Thanks for the comment.

  38. If you are writing a guest post then you should reply to all the comments on the post because blogging is incomplete without interaction with visitors.
BTW thanks for the post Kharim 🙂

    1. You are so right about that pal.

Replying to comments is a must and is best if you reply to comments in a conversational manner rather than just saying “thank you for commenting”.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  39. I’m a regular reader on your blog. I feel pleasure when i read some alternative feature. I agree with your points that you made. It’s true a valuable and brilliant article bring some extra money. From now i will follow all tips and technique to write a powerful post.

  40. I don’t think the number of comments on a post determines its quality. But these are wonderful tips. Having unique content really makes your blog stand out. Thank you.

  41. HA! I was reading your post and then you mentioned the other ones that you’d written and I realized I’ve read your stuff before. Now I feel like a stalker. Good stuff. Keep it up.

  42. It looks like there is in my case really no formula to write a popular blogpost. I wrote one blogpost which drives in 60% of the traffic and I never thought that this blogpost would get so much visitors. On the other side I wrote a few blogposts I am very proud of and do wonder why nobody read them. It´s sometimes very funny. But as long as I do have fun, everything is ok.

    1. Hey Dennis,

Great to know that one blog post brought you so much traffic.

All you have to do now is to write other posts with a topic that goes almost hand in hand to what you had previously written.

What you need to do is to powerfully promote your articles. This is the only way people are going to know that you have published something for them to read.

Thanks for the comment and all the best to you.

  43. Hello Kharim..
Ya I am totally agree with you. These tips you shared above are really very important for every blogger. This is great that one blog post can drive too much traffic. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips.
