How-to Blog Engage a WordPress.com Blog

Blog Engage – Social Networking For Bloggers

I've been a member of the Blog Engage community since November of 2009 and it's one of the most important blogging decisions that I ever made. I enjoy being member of Blog Engage and the blog promotion resources is only the half of it. Bloggers should always be willing to learn more about their craft and BE is an excellent place to do so.

The owner of Blog Engage asked me a question on Twitter and one thing about Blog Engage, if Brian needs your help you can't turn him down. You can find out more about the community and my experiences in these other posts. Now let's get to the question.

If you have a WordPress blog you can install the Blog Engage plugin that will display the button along with a counter.  Recently the Digg Digg plugin was expanded to include a Blog Engage button and the Sexy Bookmarks plugin has included the button for quite some time.

Add Blog Engage Button on WordPress.com

WordPress.com users know that java scripts are not allowed and quite simply they just don't work on our blogs, so the question is, what is the alternative?  Here's what I'm doing on Ms. Ileane Speaks my primary blog to add the Blog Engage button.

  1. Download one of the images from the Blog Enage site link for Profile Promo and save it to your computer
  2. Upload the button to your WordPress.com Media Library
  3. Edit an existing post or publish a new one
  4. Submit your post to Blog Engage
  5. Copy the URL from the vote page of your post
  6. Go back and edit the post on WordPress.com and insert the button image where you want it to appear on your post
  7. Click the image to edit it
  8. Paste the URL from Blog Engage in the Link URL box (see image below)

Edit URL of Blog Engage Button

Update and save your post and take a look. The next time you want to add the button you can skip the first step because the file is already in your Media Library.  These steps might seem long but it is well worth it to make it easy for follow Blog Engagers to vote for your posts so that you can end up on the front page at Blog Engage. Your traffic will rise and you will become noticed not only in the community but throughout the blogosphere.

If you have any questions about adding the button to your WordPress.com blog you can leave a comment here or contact me on Twitter. My user name is @BasicBlogTips.

  1. Ileane your such a dedicated member to go through that process for all your wordpress.com articles. Thanks so much for sharing your trick. Do you think there is any possible way of making this process any easier? Well at least the future additions it’s already in your media library.

Too bad wordpress doesn’t allow for scripts. That’s rather odd of them isn’t it?

    1. Hi Brian, you’re welcome. Just let me know who the other WordPress.com bloggers are and I’ll show them some other tips as well. The java script is one of the most complained about topics at the WordPress.com forums but once you get over the initial disappointment you can move on. WordPress.com has so much more to offer than scripts and as you know, I highly recommend it. Thanks for all of your support. Love ya back!

    1. Hi Gadget Guy, thanks for your visit. All members of the CommentLuv community are welcome here! I hope you don’t mind if I give you some advice. You should really get a gravatar to help increase the likelihood that your comments will be approved and not rejected as spam. You can find out about the benefits of using a gravatar and how it helps to establish your brand
One more tip, if you already have a gravatar, be sure to use the same email address on your gravatar profile and your CommentLuv profile and then you will be all set.

  8. I joined Blog Engage in September 2010 and have tried to be active on that network. Brian has worked very hard to keep Blog Engage going, and has been successful at doing it . Out of all the blog communities, Blog Engage seems to be the most successful, as you can see by the fact that its members are still active, and the site is still around.
