How-to Customize Your Amplify Page

[shadowbox]Please note: Amplify shut down back in 2012.[/shadowbox]

I sent out a “call to action” for members of Blog Engage to follow each other on networks outside of the normal social sharing sites that lead the pack: BloggerLuv, Amplify, Bloggers, HubPages and YouSayToo.

More Details About Amplify

Joining BloggerLuv is was highly recommended by myself and others (like Gail from GrowMap for example) and at the very least I suggest you add your links to the DoFollow Bookmarking page.  Today I want to go into more detail and discuss what I think is the next up-and-coming social networking tour de force Amplify.Amplify Where Conversation is King

I've been spending more time on the Amplify site and I'm really impressed with how user-friendly the interface is. I use the handy Chrome Extension for Amplify and the browser bookmarklet as well. It's an excellent way to build links, and share the content of what I consider the most intriguing content on the web (including my own articles and blog posts).

Visit the site and you'll find that you can quickly sign-in with Twitter or Facebook and instantly you've created your very own MyAmplify page. You can auto-post to several social networks but be mindful not to “overshare”.  Or simply use Amplify to create a customized collection of articles focused on your topic of choice.

Blog with Amplify

You can write blog posts with Amplify from the simple-to-use Visual or HTML post editor to add extra spark to your MyAmplify page. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is just getting started with blogging and they are looking for a free blogging service. Amplify is not quite as robust as WordPress.com or Blogger but it's a great alternative to some other popular free blogging services like Posterous or Tumblr.  Using the blogging feature is a great way to stimulate conversations on your Amp. Notice the tagline that appears in the logo above; “Where conversation is king.”Blog with Amplify

  1. Lately I’ve had little time to visit other communities but I’ve planed to go to BloggerLuv and Hubapges when I can.
I like Amplify, the way you can clip the articles and the autopost. I’d like that their stats were a little more explicit that just numbers, but I prefer the “cut” code they have to clip a page (their code coming from clipmarks) than others that you don’t have this bonus.

Very interesting video that ratified that I’ve done things ok at Amplify.

    Have a great week,

    Gera

    1. Hey Gera, thanks for saying that. The clipmarks aspects sounds like another bonus that I need to explore. It’s back to school week here so it should be a great one. You have a good one also.

  2. Hi Ileane,
Thanks to you I have joined Amplify now, and I am beginning to love it. I like the clipping feature. And your video is very helpful for a newbie like me.

  3. Hi Ileane,

I’m hearing first time about Amplify Page. Will Going to join it.
And thanks for sharing the great video Ileane !!

    1. Devesh, you’ll be a power user in no time. You have some awesome content to Amplify from your blog. Keep me posted with your review.

  4. TrafficColeman

    Hi Ileane

At first glance it looks like a regular blog interface, but I with and looked around, and I thinks its something people can take advantage of.

  5. ileane, nice post and video about amplify. I totally agree with you that Amplify is really easy to use and it really doesn’t take long to learn it. I use it along with Clipmarks but I think Amplify is still my preference.

    1. Hi Bryan, welcome to Basic Blog Tips. I signed up with Clipmarks today and I’m giving it a try. Thanks for your feedback.

  6. Dennis Edell

I don’t have an amplify page yet, but will certainly keep this as a resource. 🙂

      1. Dennis Edell

I may need some kind of reminder. Nothing new outside of my own new stuff is happening for a while…..big plate. 😉

  7. Thanks for writing this up..as I am lost on Amplify. I’m hoping to catch up this week and figure it out. Your videos are always the best in making it clearer.

  8. Hey Ileane, great tutorial on Amplify. I use that now since Climparks only works on Firefox. Now I wont have to change browsers 🙂

    1. Cindy, I finally checked out Clipmarks yesterday and I see what you mean. Looks like Clipmarks doesn’t have a Chrome extension but Amplify does, so looks like they teamed up and meshed the two products together. Amplify has all of these cool customizations and it’s more interactive also. Thanks.

  9. Thanks, B. I’ve been using Amplify for a while now and even deleted over 80 posts after getting into a fight with someone. But, I can’t say I maximized the potential.

    1. Kissie, you got into a fight over what? Why didn’t you tell me? I’m glad John didn’t hear about it. 🙂

      1. Yes Ma’am, a team of lawyers came after me. Anyway, that’s history and I won! They didn’t.

So, I’m checking out your new theme … or am I? I woke up to you and ICTrends discussing what I thought would be some changes to the site, I can’t tell.

I know it’s going to be awesome, no matter what!

P.S. Did you tell the RodMan yet?

        1. I wanted the changes to be very subtle and it sounds like I achieved that. I tweaked some font settings and the Top Commenters Gravatar.
          P. S. :I did tell him and but he didn’t agree yet.

  10. Hi Ileane,
I have heard great things recently about BloggerLuv and I’m looking forward to getting involved. I will take your tip and add my link to the Dofollow bookmarking page. It seems to have a really awesome community of bloggers who are involved in sharing information and helping each other out.

I also wanted to thank you for the two backtracks to my CommentLuv article. I definitely appreciate it. I really enjoy your blog and I will be stopping back through often.

    1. Hi Brian, I look forward to seeing you over at BloggerLuv. Once I saw your CommentLuv post about checking your Feedburner settings, it was a must that I updated my CommentLuv tutorials. You might see a few more trackbacks coming your way because I think I still have some posts to update. Thanks for your visit and feedback.

  11. Thanks for the further insight about Amplify. I’m joining the networks very soon.

BTW, Ileane, I wish you increase spacing in your post and If link colors were not that contrasting.

Out of context though let me introduce you with my new blog ‘SEO MMO Tips’ (link is in my Name)

    1. Hey Suresh, thanks for your feedback about my theme. I plan to have a new one very soon. I’ll check out your new blog. Congratulations!

  12. Hi Ileane,

I am new to amplify. It looks like a powerful networking tool for bloggers. The blogging interface makes it extra attractice.

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

    Ryan Biddulph

  13. I haven’t heard of this name before. But after reading this post, I am gonna try it now for sure. Thanks for sharing an insight view.

  14. That’s a nice post with detailed guide. I just have joined amplify and amazed to see that all my twitter community (Followers+Following)are added with just one click. I am not supposed to add them separately that may cost me extra time. First impression was awesome and will see it in detail later. You are also added on my amplify account.

    1. Hi Imran, I was happy to see so many of my friends were on Amplify already too. I’ll look for you and follow you back. Thanks so much for stopping by.

  15. I too have never heard about Amplify, this is the first time I am hearing about it. I am certainly going to check it. Thanks a lot for sharing

  16. Hey Ileane! I love Amplify. It’s a great tool based on WordPress MU, so anyone who uses WordPress would find their way around easily. I love the fact that the sidebar can be customized! It’s awesome.

    1. Tia, I love the clipping feature the most. And I also did a blog post which I find much more user-friendly than Posterous. I clipped one of your posts the other day and I’m sure that I’ll Amplify more of your posts there soon. I think it’s an excellent way to get and give exposure. Thanks for your comment.

  17. Hey Ileane, awesome video. Look at it, now I think you can create your own channel on Youtube and let people subscribe to 🙂

I firstly though Amplify would be another Pligg site but I was wrong. I don’t know it was based on WordPress MU, so one thing for sure after I read your post is I’ll try it out.

Thanks for the great post 🙂

  18. Thank you for linking to my post on BloggerLuv about why I recommend bloggers collaborate and explaining CommentLuv, BloggerLuv and Secret Blog Club.

Someday if I ever get caught up again I hope to get more involved in what you’re doing on Amplify and Blog Engage. Maybe you can get me up to speed.

    1. Gail, you are welcome. I want my readers to know that I try to link out to high quality articles and as you know, your blog is one of my favorites. If you need me for anything just say the word. Thanks!

  19. So, Ileane, it’s time once again to give you props for sharing the good stuff. Your HubPages article is what finally got me to start using Amplify (anklebuster.amplify.com) and, as I become more comfortable with the service, I’m starting to play around with customization.

Here is a bonus tip: if you have any dusty old social media accounts languishing on the web, put them back into circulation with Amplify! I started sharing to Plurk, of all places. I hadn’t used that Twitter wannabe in a LONG time! 🙂

    Cheers,

    Mitch

    1. Hey Mitch, thanks so much for visiting and commenting on my Hub Page. I’m auto-posting my Amps to Plurk and Tumblr too 🙂 The real bonus for me is that I’ve replaced Posterous with Amplify as my primary micro-blogging platform. The clipping feature that I access through the Amplify extension for Chrome is a huge advancement over the Posterous bookmarklet. There was a issue with the Posterous extension for Chrome awhile back and I never even looked back to see if it was working again.

Are you planning to add your social networking widgets to your sidebar? I didn’t include Plurk in my lineup because basically, once you have found my Amp, you don’t really need to see my Plurks.

One more pointer, you can use hashtags on Amplify now too which is a great idea for anyone auto-posting to Twitter. Simply include your hashtag in the title of your post and click post to Twitter on the right.

Thanks Mitch, I’m so glad your enjoying Amplify. It’s a great service.

  20. That was a nice video…I am hearing it for the first time…I would like to try this out…
    thanks.

  21. Hi Kavita, great to see you here my friend. I followed you on Amplify. I don’t get over there as often as I used to now that BlogEngage, Blokube and Blog Interact all have the awesome new chat feature.

If I see you on chat I’ll be sure to say Hi! (headed over to those sites now to see who I can chat with)

  22. WoW , That’s great and I was not aware of this network.
    Will surely try them out.
Well, Thumbs up for your tutorial.

  23. Amplify has so many uses and most of the bloggers are using this feature. And as what you have menti0ned, you can easily post comments.

  24. Reading your posts keeps me updated with new ideas, thanks Ileane! I’m using Amplify to bookmark my blogs but I never thought that I can actually customize it this way. Very useful 🙂

  25. Is amplify still popular? It is a very well-programmed website. works very smoothly.

    1. Danny, I think that Google+ is stealing all of Amplify’s good users right now. I certainly visit Google+ before thinking about Amplify. Not sure how much longer they will survive.

      1. Yeah, it is actually quite sad that big companies like Google are expanding on so many things, destroying smaller but really good quality companies/services along their way.

Like Googles Product search service which they put on spot 1 in Google of course, it is ruining product review sites that rely too much on Google. (like me) Not only do they put themselves on spot 1, they also make the competition drop down in the SERP. They definitely lost their Motto “Don’t be evil”.

        1. Danny, oh wow! Sorry to hear that’s happening to you. I’m a HUGE fan of Google but I’m still not blind to the fact that at times it is difficult to compete in their world.
I noticed that you have some great videos on your site and I’m hoping that YouTube can help bring some search traffic to your site too. Are you using other video networks also? I talk about some of them on my audio podcast. For example Viddler, Daily Motion, Meta Cafe, HowCast, Vimeo – these are all some great sites that you might want to try if you aren’t already.

        2. Thanks 🙂

I went to the Google webmaster help forum and got some great advise there. It was probably that I had too many affiliate links.
Before I got dropped so hard I added some pictures to a couple of posts and put the affiliate link on the picture. That was probably overdoing it. And all my links were follow, so I have changed that.
Hopefully I will get back now.

As for the videos, I have already checked that post. It was very helpful and I am in the process of testing with some new videos and spreading them on those other video sites as well.
I will definitely check your podcast again so I don’t miss any site 🙂

Thanks for being so helpful and inspiring as always!
