In this edition of the Blogger Interviews Series, the tables are turned and I'm the one answering the questions this time.
When long time blogging friend Mitch Mitchell of I'm Just Sharing asked me to sit down and chat with him via a Google+ Hangout On Air, I was more than happy to do so. It seems I've been spending a great deal of time in Hang Outs lately so there was relatively little fuss involved with getting things set up for the recording.
During the course of the interview there were a few surprises on, well let me just say that they were surprises to me anyway. One of them is that Mitch feels that he sees me spending more time on Google + than any of the other popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter. I guess there is a good reason for him to feel that way but it's certainly not the case.
Balancing “Real” Life, Social Media and Blogging
One of the funny and entertaining aspects of this video is how we talked about balancing real life – better yet, in this case let's call it “offline life” – with life on the internet.
For example, about half-way through the video there is a real-life event that almost threw a monkey-wrench in my plan to remain cool and confident throughout the Hang Out. You'll have to watch to see that one. Â Mitch also mentions his experience with a Ladybug, but you'll have to bribe me if you want to know more about that.

Ileane, thank you for the mention (you too Mitch!) and it’s so good to know more about your day job and how you got started with blogging — especially the part about you and Kissie. If I remember correctly it was around 2009 when we first connected on my blog and WB. Hard to believe it’s been 4 years!
And I totally get what you mean about being a homebody and needing that balance with your day job and your blog life. Thank goodness for Meetup.com and volunteering because I’m also a homebody so its nice to have those avenues to help achieve that balance. Otherwise I’d be staring at a PC all dang day! lol
Every time I give an example about the importance of connecting with people, I use you as the example. You made a great point about how networks come and go but the relationship stick!
I got such a nice laugh when you said “We aren’t the ones making songs about how we hate Google Plus” LOL!! Yes, the online social butterflies had a great advantage when the switch happened.
Mitch is a great interviewer too. Great job you two.
Hey Lisa, yes it was 2009 when we first started blogging and watching your videos. I tell people all the time that they need to find an online mentor – more importantly find one who is ethical and honest and I’m so glad that I found and started following you early on.
The few times that I have done any offline networking it was through Meetup.com. AWeber uses them to get the word out about their training and other events that I attended in the past couple of years.
So glad you had the time to watch the video Lisa. That means a lot to both of us!
Thanks for all you do.
Thanks Lisa, and you’re a special person as well, which is why we talked about you so much. What fun! 😉
Hi Ileane,
Oh yes….I enjoyed the hangout yesterday 🙂
I’m sorry to have missed it though I got Mitch’s invite on Google+. I guess my time zones are sometimes a hindrance, but I’m glad I could hear the recorded version.
Loved the way you both had a nice carefree chit-chat about blogging and social media, and I keep marvelling at the fact as to how you manage a full time job and the blog! Not to mention the podcasts, videos, and so much more – lots to learn from you for sure 🙂
I did hear about the guest post on Adrienne’s blog, and I guess having done my first one on her blog – she IS a wonderful person. Wishing Mitch all the best for his guest post on her blog, and we look forward to that too.
Thanks for sharing more of you with us. Have a nice week ahead 🙂
Hi Harleena,
I’m grateful that you had a chance to watch the video and share it on Google+ and Facebook too. You’re such a giver and I really appreciate the positive spirit you bring along with you each time you visit to the blog!
Have a wonderful week ahead my dear!
I thank you for the good wishes Harleena; the post ended up doing pretty well.
I just might have to kill you to keep that ladybug story a secret. lol Thanks for doing it Ileane; I think some folks will enjoy learning a few more things about you and your ideas on branding and getting known on social media.
Mitch, thanks for pressing the issue about doing the interview. It was long overdue! I need to pop in on one of those Hot Blog Tips Hangouts one Sunday before the end of the year so we can exchange a few more ideas.
Thanks for letting me post the video here, it is a great addition to the Blogger Interviews Series.
Let me know when that guest post goes live on Adrienne’s blog and I’ll be sure to add a link to it.
Chat soon!
Hi Ileane.
Really great interview! I think it’s so refreshing listening to someone with “real life” experience, you know with their feet on the ground! I sometimes get annoyed by all these useless blogs that says the same things over and over again turning the same subjects as the other ones.
I’m gonna be following you from now on, you got my vote:-)
Greetings from Denmark.

Hey Mitch and Ileane,
I finally made it and just listened to this interview. How fun and I’m so glad you guys did this. Since Ileane and I have chatted a few times too I knew her background history but that’s because we’ve built up that relationship right Ileane?
You know Ileane, when I decided not to return to corporate American after I was released from my position my friends were worried about me because I’m such a people person. They thought I’d go nuts but I’m a lot like you, I’m a homebody too and the sad thing is that if I never saw another person I’d be fine. Not that I would want that but I love being at home. For the first few years I rarely left the house because I was learning and growing still but I eventually started taking more time to myself so I do get together with family and/or friends now on occasions but I love chatting with my online friends too. Just like today, I spent it with family running errands and having lunch to celebrate what would have been my Dad’s 91st birthday yesterday.
Mitch did an awesome job with that guest post too by the way. Oh yeah, my readers are loving it even though it’s a long one. I honestly love those because I learn so much. I appreciate you stopping by too and checking that one out.
I remember that hangout we did Ileane. I think Donna was suppose to join us too but she got tied up with a client so we just chatted away by ourselves. I didn’t know until after the fact that you were putting it on Google+. I just thought we were hanging out so I’m kind of glad I didn’t know that. lol… Back before it became the norm right! Gosh, that seems like ages ago already.
Great interview Mitch, wonderful job and it’s always great to hear about Ileane. You two together are the best. Loved it!
~Adrienne
Thanks Adrienne, and I guess y’all did a regular hangout and not a live one; I can stop searching now. lol You know, one of these days I hope you’ll sit for an interview as well; we can say “howdy” to each other on video. 🙂
Great interview here Ileane,
I know you did something interviews before, but this is the first time I ever seen an interview of you. It’s amazing how you started blogging. You went from not knowing what an RSS feed was to a blogging queen. I like hear stories like these.
I remember how I found you some months ago through a site called topsy.com where you can type any subject and find a blog about it as well as who are the influencers. Thats how I found you. I just found your blog very informational, and you taught the basics of blogging. I was trying to get more familiar with setting up google analytics and your tutorial helped out a lot. I give you much props for that!
You and mitch mentioned about black bloggers not being mentioned in a lot of the top 50 and top 100 bloggers. I’m glad you both said something and did something about that. I hope one day I can get into that status, which is why Im changing the way I blog.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and what you expect!
Hey Sherman!
Positive feedback like this means the world to me! I have always felt that even if I can help just one person I’ve done something good, so knowing that you put the Google Analytics tutorials to good use makes me smile.
Mitch and I did a good thing by shining the spotlight on several black bloggers who are worthy of praise. I’m proud of what we did and the way we connected folks who are doing good work and making positive contributions online. It’s important that we continue to do bring folk together so thanks for mentioning it.
Let’s keep in touch Sherman – and let me know if you need help with anything.
Thanks.
We will definitely keep in touch! I look forward to more of your content!
You are so human, Ileane! I love it. You’re exactly as I imagined, though more approachable.
I do a lot of Google Hangouts so I have to say I was curious how you’d react when I saw no realtime visitors (mine are like that. It makes me lonely). But truly, it was no big deal. Your message was the same and the chemistry between you and Mitch required nothing else.
This was fun.
Hey this is a great interview Ileane. I always love to read your tips and now when I can hear it, I’m impressed. Just keep with good work!
I’m also interviewing a lot of bloggers and marketers on my blog and I was asking whether you are in the mood for a quick interview via email, maybe and how can I reach to you?
Thanks Ileane.
Awesome interview ileane, I’ve learned a lot of things from this interview, and Mitch has asked awesome questions.
During these days i searching for interview to listen in my leisure time to learn from experts, so i will surely wait for next interview
Thanks
Ileane, it’ been a while since have been to your blog but it’s great to be back. So happy to see Mitch here also.
