Blogging Secrets I Gained From Jon Morrow’s Webinar

Blogging Secrets Of Jon Morrow

Do you know me?

Blogging secretsMe, I am a blogger who for the last 3 years has been posting great and useful content in my blogs continuously.

Remember? Now do you know me?

I am promoting my blog posts through almost every social media network since the day I started blogging!

Think again, do you know me?

No????????????????????

Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what most of the bloggers are feeling today. There are millions of bloggers in every niche all around the world but a very few of them are known to world.

I recently learned a few excellent Blogging Secrets from a Webinar and now I'm sharing them with you via the great platform of Ms. Ileane's Basic Blog Tips.

You know what, Basic Blog Tips was my first choice to submit this post because I wanted this post to reach the maximum number of bloggers around and all of you will agree with me if I say Ms. Ileane provides great readership.

Best Dictum For Successful Blogging

‘The world knows them because they are successful’ and ‘They are successful because the world knows them’.

Yes it is Vice-Versa.

I was lucky that I got to listen the webinar of famous blogger Jon Morrow from Boost Blog Traffic based on Blogging Secrets on bringing huge traffic to the blog.

Jon Morrow explained different Blogging Secrets, tips and tricks for the newbie bloggers. Although whole 2 hrs long webinar is not possible to be covered here in a single post but I will try to summarize them briefly here.

(Honestly speaking, I want to keep some of the Blogging Secrets to myself)

Just Kidding!!!

Blogging Secrets: Three C's (Connections, Content and Convert)

This was the basic concept of Jon Morrow’s webinar. These are the major C's that are the focal point of his Blogging Secrets

  1. Connections- Making good connections with leading bloggers worldwide. Make them know your name and your writing and blogging capabilities.
  2. Content- Post awesome content in your blog. Great won’t work now, the competition is tough out here and you must make  awesome content in order to stand out.
  3. Convert – When you start getting enough traffic try converting your visitors into your subscribers. Give those visitors a solid reason to subscribe you.

Connections are predominant requisite if you want to get huge traffic to your blog and is one of most important blogging secrets.

[shadowbox]Check out: Ms. Ileane's post and podcast about the Three C's of Blogging Success[/shadowbox]

Let me make it more clear.

Tell me one thing, when you have some free time, would you like to go to a friend’s home and chill-out or would you rather try talking with strangers?

Certainly you will go to the friend’s house and spend your time there. This is what I want to explain.

People will come to your blog if they know you. (One of the major Blogging Secrets)

I agree that content quality matters a lot but as far as I know there are millions of websites in every niche over internet and many of them have great and irresistible content then why would visitors land to your blog.

Think about it!!!

Make yourself known to the world and then they will come to read your post, for sure.

What usually happens is that most bloggers change the order of these important C's.

Confused!!!

I mean, bloggers usually change the ideal order to the wrong one – Content, Connection and then comes Convert. This is where they lack and get traffic less than they actually deserve.

Even I was following the same pattern before I attended the webinar. I was paying much of my attention on posting the content in my blog rather than making myself known.

Though I am doing the blog commenting and guest posting to build a good rapport among the world’s professional bloggers but still I'm not getting enough traffic.

So what could be the reason?

The reason is simple enough to understand, I need to step up the pace. One superbly relevant example is popping in my mind right now, let me share it.

My doctor once told me that ‘Even the best accurate medicine won’t have an effect if given in the wrong dosage’.

This is what I can implement here. My promotion tactics are not giving me best results because I am not using the proper dosages.

I was updating content more and making connections less.

Now that I know what I have to do, I will focus more on making connections than posting content in my blog. I will follow the Blogging Secrets of Jon Morrow and work in the correct order of importance of the 3 C's- Connection, Content and Convert.

How to Build Connection

What do you think can be the best way to build the connections among bloggers worldwide?

Let me tell you – Blog commenting and guest posting are two of the most often used ways to build connections. But as I said above ‘Medicine works only when given in proper dosages’, guest posting and blog commenting help only when done in good number.

Now, the glitch here is that if you do more blog commenting, Akismet will designate you as a spam commenter.

So what's left for you is guest posting and trust me it is one of the most valuable blogging secrets.

You can publish as many guest posts as you can.

In fact the more guest posts you publish, the more connections and more blog traffic you will gain.

How To Write Awesome Content

This is no-ways possible to explain in few words rather I can write a whole book on it. So I will mention just the basic points here.

  • Write when you want to write –Never force yourself to write, it will bring out just words not content.
  • Write what you want to read– Think of yourself as a reader and then start writing. Write in a style which you would love to read. As in my case, I hate reading long paragraphs embellished with tough words and so I never write long paragraphs with tough words. I like to read simple and so I write simple.
  • Be Original– This is what everyone suggests and this is actually the most important point as well. I know that you need to take matter from internet; I do also, but write it in your own words and your own style. Such as the blogging secrets mentioned in this piece. These are my own ideals of Jon Morrow's webinar but I have written it in my own style and my words.
  • Research well– Make sure that your content is actually useful to the readers. Never ever make a mistake to misguide the readers by writing bogus or incomplete information.

How To Convert Visitors To Subscribers

This is again a vast topic to cover and I will give you the basic tips-

So here I am done with my review of Jon Morrow's Blogging Secrets. All the ideas which were revolving around in my mind after attending the webinar rolled out here and now I feel relaxed. I was dying to share these tips and tricks with my friends all around the world and also with those who don’t know me. What do you think about Jon's blogging secrets?

MY INTENTION IS TO BUILD CONNECTIONS. WILL YOU BE ONE OF MY CONNECTIONS?

  1. Blogging is the best way to increasing our knowledge power and as well as writing power. But if we are going in wright way then we can getting our target. I really like your all points. great job Shiwangi. yes i fully agree with you the point “People will come to your blog if they know you” point because if you not promoting yourself then no one knowing you.

  2. I really like the 3 C’s. You know Shivangi, it makes perfect sense. Making connections be it on Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter, its all about making those essential connections. I think creating useful content that people actually wants and answering some of the questions and solving issues is a good way to create an audience. Illeane is a perfect example.

    1. Thnx for stopping by Shalu and yes connections are the most important aspect of blogging. What is the use of writing useful content if no one is coming to read it. People will come to know about your blog only if they know you. Being popular is the foremost requisite to make a blog successful 🙂

  3. Thnx for such an appreciative comment Janmejaya and yes to get more traffic and moreover to get a reputable place in blogging community your have to make connections first.
    Happy Blogging 🙂

  4. I am amazed after reading these killer tips. As you mentioned that 3 C’s are important for blogging, they were new to me. Connections, Content and Convert are very important aspects and follow the same priority only.

Our first task should be to make connection that we can spread our voice and help other people to achieve their goals as Ileane mam is doing.
Once we will be able to make connections then the desire for writing quality content will be developed automatically and we will be able to write useful content for our readers.
And then after conversion comes which can be done with proper bonding only.

Your points about writing the content are also very informative. Every blogger should write only when he feel comfortable to write and there should be uniqueness in the article. There are numerous websites now that people are feeling bored after reading the same content again and again. So until and unless there will be uniqueness people will not come to your blog for reading.

At last i would like to say that i enjoyed each and every single point you mentioned here because some points were absolutely new to me.

    1. Thanx for taking time to read my post and leaving a great comment here Kulwant. Indeed the connections are most important aspect of blogging and yes content and covert come thereafter.
As I have mentioned in the post also following the proper order is very important to raise the blog high. 🙂

  8. Hello Shiwangi Peswani
Thanks you to share this valuable blogging secrets with us. hope these points are effective to build an unique image for Blogger.
I am very impressed with you artical share more blogging secrets with us.
    Thanks Again.

    1. Hey Ruchi, yeah these points indeed very helpful and useful for blogger and especially for the newbies like me. Hope you get benefited with these tips 🙂

  9. Thought provoking posts. I was not aware of the webinar, would have loved to listen in. Any idea of a webinar recording, perhaps on YouTube?

The first c – Connections really is a huge pillar.

Without popular bloggers talking about your blog, there will be no traffic. Google isn’t going to discover you until other bloggers ‘jump you in‘. Google, as we have said time and time again, looks for sources it trusts who point to your site – that is SEO in 2012 Yet, you can’t get people to point to your site if they don’t know who you are.

    1. Hey Shamelle thanx for stopping by on my post and yes I completely agree with your comment. Connection is the huge pillar and it is something without which you can’t attain even a pinch of success in blogging.
I am sorry but I don’t know anything about the recording of Webinar dear.
I guess you missed it but trust me I have rolled out every thing which Jon Morrow explained. His words were a bit different though. 🙂

  10. Yeah absolutely right Ravi, blog is the best mode to speak up in front of the whole world and also the great mode to have an ear to what people want to say about you and your thoughts 🙂

  11. It is indeed an “awesome” post much beyond just great, list building is critical for long term success but often it has been seen that focus remains till collecting email subscriptions and not on building relationship after it.

As writing good content is critical, engagement with your subscribers is also imperative to extract real value out of it.

And as you mentioned connections are great, but we need to take care that we don’t get lost into it, instead add value and create identity for self.

    1. Very well said Akhilendra it is equally important to make an engagement with the subscribers and sending a few newsletters (I guess once a week would be enough) with useful information, links to useful posts or with some offers can work the best.
BTW what do you mean by getting lost in making connections. Of course creating useful content is very important or else the connections would be just a waste of time 🙂
The three Cs compliment each other and none of them is beneficial without the other two.

  12. That is really a great secret which I never knew about before. Relationship building is must to make them visit our blog. This is must to build connections with other bloggers and your readers as well.

Thanks for this awesome post Shiwangi.

  13. Thnx for a nice comment Ehsan and also for staying connected. Even I was absolutely unaware of these great and useful secrets before attending the webinar. Looking forward to more of such inspirational and useful webinars 🙂
    Stay connected 😉

  14. Hello Shiwangi Peswani
i like the 3 Cs. shivangi makes perfect sense. all points about writing orignal content is very informative for me.Thank you for sharing your valuable tips.

  15. Amazing post : 3C..

I think without close connections with readers and commenter, no one can actually have any successful blog. Involvement is the biggest need for being a successful blogger and it lacks in me.

  16. Today people are connecting with each othe but you know what that connection hardly matters as the connection is stabilized to sending of friend request or accepting the friend request, most of those newbie bloggers hardly communicate with others, they don’t know that the better their connection in the blogosphere gets the mosre readership they’ll attain. Anyways great post and thanks a lot for introducing us to the concept of 3c’s. I would love to give it a shot.

  17. Hi Shiwangi,

The 3 Cs you have mentioned <b.Connection, Content and Convert is in a wrong order. It’s misleading to already clueless newbie bloggers. Actually I’m not wasting my time to prove your point wrong, I’m commenting here to convey the correct message to the newbie bloggers.

Example: Suppose, a blogger blogs about tourism, or gadgets, or fashion apparels. Now tell me, who are his main visitors or main consumers. Definitely people who are planning for holidays, or planning to buy a cell phone, or some fashion items (from search engines). Not the bloggers who are blogging about tourism, gadgets and fashion.

If he spend more time connecting with other famous bloggers in his niche, instead of creating useful content which his main consumers are going to consume, then he will end up with less traffic. I mean his blogging buddies are not going to make or break his career, because they constitute only 5 to 7% of his total visitors.

If you got my point, you should think about your 3C’s correct order, which should be Content, Connection and Convert.

I don’t know, I have never published a single guest post till today. And, The Telegraph has contacted me to feature one of my blog post and me very shortly. For your info, I’m only 10 months old in blogging arena and quite happy with the amount of traffic I get everyday.

Thanks for giving me some reason to think.

  18. Hey Nandita first of thanx for taking your valuable time to read my post and then to leave a valuable indeed comment. Everyone has his/her own perception of blogging and I respect the way you think.
Again I don’t want to correct you but would definitely like to put up my point on this-as you wrote in your comment that when we start blogging we need the visitors and consumers not the same niche bloggers. So my dear friend the visitors and consumers will land on your blog only when Google and other leading search engine will trust you and include your blog in search results.
And as far as I know about Google, it jumps to your blog only when you are known and when your blog is linked with high quality blogs which you get my making connections.
I hope I have cleared my point here. So I am still stick with my order of 3 Cs and lastly yes I would like to congratulate you for the huge traffic and the offer you got from The Telegraph.
    Happy Blogging Dear Friend 🙂
    Cheers 🙂

    1. Thanks for the reply,

For your info – Google takes in to account 200 + 1 (DMCA request) = 201 signals to rank a blog article. Which starts from Domain name (TLDs), Future domain age (not present), Good neighborhood….201th ranking signal. And you are talking about only one – Links from other blogs. How many times or how many bloggers get backlinks from other sites only for the sake of connection. On the other hand bloggers get plenty of links naturally, only for their awesome content, without much connection.

I’m not against making connection with other bloggers, but CONTENT always comes ahead of connection. “A blog can’t be a blog without content, but a blog can be a super blog without much connection.”

Example: In my initial days, some 7 months ago when my blog was 3 months old only, without any connection, reputation or permutation ….anything you can call 🙂

I published an article about WordPress Plugins targeting a long-tail keyword – “Essential WordPress Plugins 2012.” And, you know, Google ranked this article @ No.1 SPOT for the same long-tail keyword. Everyday I get >100 page-views from this single post. And, I also got few backlinks from PR 5 and PR 4 sites for this article.

Do you know – Why Google ranked this 3 months old kid at No.1 SPOT? Without any connection, backlinks or social signals. Can YOU or ANYBODY know the answer? At least you should try your LUCK !

      1. Whoa Nandita..nice and a long answer indeed. I agree to you that readers comment in the awesome content but my dear friend I have mentioned in my post above that people usually go to the blogs which are known to them, Mind It I Used Word (USUALLY) which means not always.
And my point on making connection was not just for the sake of backlinks, it was for getting a reputable place in the blogging community. There are millions of posts published on a single niche and a single topic but not all of them come or remain on the top search engine pages.
I will go to the blog which I know first if it appears with 9 other search results on the first page of search engine.
I appreciate your knowhow about Google algo but honestly speaking my opinion and experience tell me that the blogs with maximum engagement have better chance to get a position in search engine results.
Furthermore I am absolutely not against your thought but this is my perception of blogging and I am quite happy with that.
So hats off to you to having your 3 months old post ranked at No-1 spot by Google. Congratulations once again.

  19. Interesting take. I’d say I spend at least double the time on social media as I do blogging, yet I get 10 times the traffic from search as from social media. As a solopreneur, there are only so many people I can, or at least want to, connect with. Sometimes I think I’d be better served to blog more and connect less!

    1. I liked your diplomatic comment Lousie. You know what I recently started my third blog and two of my previous ones were sure shot failure and the reason was that i was not at all connected to anyone. People hardly used to visit my site, though i was ranked at top for my niche keyword.
On the other hand this new blog which is just a month old baby is getting huge response just because I am paying much attention to the connections. I am not neglecting the content update though 🙂

  20. I’m not trying to be disrespectful but nowadays from the millions of bloggers you mentioned, 50% preaches about blogging. I mean, is not like is rocket science even though you have to be updated with all the news in this area constantly.

    1. I completely agree with you Radu even I was noticing this thing from past few days. It seems that we are writing just for the bloggers and not for the regular readers and surfers.
Well I try to cover the general how-tos in my blog to help the regular readers as well 🙂

  21. This is EXACTLY why I’m pleased that I have finally got my internet speed problem sorted out because I have been missing out on watching these webinairs from many people who have a lot of tips and advice to pass on.

I hope they don’t dry up now I have speedy internet! 😛

    1. Hey Saliba nice to know that you got your speed (internet speed :P) back and I have tried to cover the major points of Jon Morrow’s webinar. I hope it helped 🙂

  22. Thanks for these great tips – I must remember to do a series. Interesting comment above about so many blogs on blogging but they seem to be the most popular ones too. Being original is key to standing out.

    1. Absolutely Lisa, being original is the only key to make you stand out in the huge mob of blogposts of same niche. But on the same node the basic blogging tips always remain the same only creativity you can add is the way to explain those tips with examples to make it simpler to understand for newbies 🙂

  23. Hello every one,
Connections are the most important aspect of blogging. People will come to know about your blog only if they know you. these tips are really useful and i am following from the day i attended the great seminar. thank you Shiwangi Peswani

    1. Thnqq for supporting me and the tips Zoya. Even I am folowing these tips right from the day I attended that seminar and honestly speaking I am getting great response from my connections 🙂

  24. Lot of new thing to learn !! I was always given priority to put great content to my blog but never ever tried to create any connections or interact with any similar minds as I’m doing it as a part time hobby initially but now in a different approach 🙂 Great tips anyway ,I will definitely try to implement few of your suggestions.

    1. Hey Suhanesh its nice to know that you are blogging just as your hobby but if your content is useful enough for the users you must spread it around and trust me connections seriously work 🙂

  25. The points is clear…the road to success blogging is to give value, i mean quality and helpful value through your content and success will surely come in return. i also agree that the best 2 methods to gain fast and huge traffic back to your site and gain exposure are commenting and guest post, just it must be done in a reasonable ways so as to see a better result. thanks for shaing

    1. Completely agree with your comment Olayemi guest posting is the best way to get exposure and at the same time creating useful and unique content is also very important or else even connection may not help you out 🙂

  26. Hi Shiwangi!
in my opinion connection is very important.because if connection will not be there is no benefit to write useful and good content.i like your C’s principal.
    thanks for sharing this idea.

    1. Thnx for supporting the Cs principal Anshul. Even I am following this pattern and I think that it is of no use to create useful content if there is no one to take use of that 🙂

  27. Blogging is hard work.

It really is. And the connections part makes it as difficult as blogging.

Connections is key to getting your blog out there and being read. Good article.

    1. Hey Samuel thnx for your comment and yes making connections in fact making good connections is difficult but if done in a proper way can do a lot good for your blog 🙂

  28. Hi Shiwangi,

I would love to add my recommendation as well.
According to my personal experience, if the people get benefits from your blog, they will usually find out about you and discover who you are and even your real name. This will greatly benefit to both of you and the visitor. They get benefit from your blog, and you got their email listing. 🙂

Thanks a lot for inspiring post!

    1. I agree Hendry but what I feel is that people will come to read your post only if they know you.
Now, by knowing I didn’t mean to know your personally. I just wanna say by this post that if you are connected with leading bloggers around and your blog posts have a good quality engagement Google will love your post and will certainly keep you in the top search pages which will certainly bring organic visits to your blog.
      Right buddy 🙂

  29. I totally agree with the above said, blogging it’s all about writing quality content and creating the right connections. It’s pretty hard to separate these aspects and still be a successful blogger.

  30. Hi,

I’m nothing other than a blogger friend of yours… Add me to your connections list!
I love being connected with more and more passionate bloggers who’re willing to help and build relationships anywhere, anytime. No matter, how stranger others are to him… I’m a big fan of Jon Morrow and have been reading a lot by him, I love his writing style. Downloading webinars’ recordings from GuestBlogging.com (his website). Will be listening to him most times. I was waiting for your this post, since I saw your facebook post about it in a group on Facebook. Very sadly, I wasn’t updated with BBT from some days so, couldn’t get to know about this article earlier.
I’d be very very thankful to you for attending the webinar and for writing on it. I loved reading, and have been trying to build connections since I’m aware of their importance. Your example was very impressive (a friend of you will be more likely to visit you, than one that is completely stranger to YOU). A bunch of thanks!
    Must say “awesome”….

    1. Thnqq Mairaj. Yeah I remember your comment on my status update on FB saying that I a gonna publish a post on Jon Morrow’s webinar. I should have updated you, apologies for the same.
Even I am a big fan of Jon Morrow and try to read all his useful and interesting stuff. Working on another detailed posts about Jon Morrow’s blogging tricks. Hope to get it published soon. 🙂

  31. I like the idea of the three c’s and it makes sense that you need to make a connection before you will get the traffic. I agree that when you are writing content you have to be tuned in and not just going through the motions or you will come up with lame content.

    1. Hey Ken, first of all apology for such a delayed reply…was cut off to the web for a few months.
M glad that you agree with the idea of three C’s 🙂

  32. Very nice article and all bloggers should be aware about these killer tips. I think the 3C Concept is very much effective in all type of bloggers especially the conversion of Readers to Subscribers. What to say ? the conversion procedure is the most tough one among the facts about a well famous blog. Anyhow, these tips are really useful for me and every beginner blogger. And, of course, thanks for featuring these things in a effectively understanding manner

  33. For Awesome contents do a lot of research and also do a lot of brain storming and that write syntax free contents that must be in good readable form. I think if the contents are posted with consistency and frequency, organic traffic will be at your door.

  34. Hi,

I really, really apreaciate your effort. Thank you for taking time to share this tips that you learned at that webinar. Hope this tips will help me in my future work.

  35. Initially I would like to thank you for this WORTHY post.
And Ileane for allowing you to publish it.
and lastly Jon Morrow for sharing 3c`s concept.
    I`m new to 3c`s.
Yes guest blogging is best option to build relations. And I`m planning for this.

  36. Hi Shiwangi,

Pretty nice post, you are lucky for getting change to listen webinar. I always looking for this type of webinar but never found. Thanks for sharing beautiful tricks to increasing traffic.

  37. Hi..Shiwangi,

Its really nice sound for Blogging Secrets, as we know Blogging has become a important part of Online Marketing & everyone wants to make an Olympian-blogger. Obviously “Content is King” but its a big confusion how to write unique & sense full content. I am favor of “Be Original & Write Content of own wish” its really effective point of blogging. well & unique content always increase blog readers as well as blog visitors.

  38. The point which you describe about writing the content is very informative. I also agree with you. Ununique content never come to the right point and never increase any visitor to your blog. 3cS are an important for blogging. I also pleasure to read your blog post because it share some secret to me.

  39. Thank you for the article Shiwangi. I’m considering taking Jon Morrow’s course and have reasoned with myself that it is the equivalent of one semester course at a community college. Most likely, I will learn more from Jon than I would have in the past few years anyways. You’ve pushed me closer to the side of taking the jump and I just wanted to let you know your positive effect on me.

  40. Well you must be doing something right. I found you on top of google when I was searching for Jon Morrow. Keep up the great work.

I’m pretty familiar with blogging as I’ve been doing it for 7+ years now. However my first reason for blogging was for the family business I was running. That has done well at building a brand. My current business blog is more for fun. I have a good amount of long term and monthly clients through networking and public speaking. So I haven’t hit blogging extra hard. I think that might be the next step…is to build a stronger audience.

One thing I’ve enjoyed since starting my business blog in 2009 is all the emails I get from folks all over the globe. It is fun meeting people and helping them with business solutions. Oh and I do make some money off of the products I personally use and like. That’s been a plus to keep blogging. 🙂

Looking forward to more of your post. I’d love your feedback on my site sometime too.

    1. Hola David…glad to know that you found the post on the top of Google while searching for Sir, Jon Morrow..Actually I gained this treasure from his webinar and couldn’t resist myself to share it here and moreover there can’t be a better platform to share this post other than the awesome basicblogtips from Ileane.

  41. Hello Shiwangi
