Traffic Generation Formula: Is Blog Commenting And Social Media Out?

This post is written in response to Jeevan’s recent guest post – Why Commenting and Social Media Suck as Traffic Sources.

First of all I must appreciate Jeevan’s boldness; this is not the first time I’m seeing him writing such a controversial post.

I always find him writing his opinion in a plain and bold manner without thinking about the A-Lister’s or guru opinions – hats off to that attitude.

Let me now get to the core matter of this post.

Traffic is THE life blood of a blog. And we can’t do without it. We don’t have an upper limit for it. We always want more of it, right?

Of course, right!

Let me get to the two main points discussed by Jeevan in his guest post.

blog traffic generation formulaBlog commenting

Commenting on other blogs does bring traffic. I cannot deny the same fact. But you need to be doing commenting the right way.

And as Jeevan said, this is gonna take quite some time and effort. You need to be doing more and more of it in order to gain attention.

Also, it is not just about the quantity, you need to be writing good quality, insightful comments.

When you start out and build up an online business, you should be doing a lot of it. That is how you will be able to send smoke signals to the community. That is how people will be able to recognize your name and your blog.

But if you become a super busy blogger, you won’t be able to engage in blog commenting in the same way as you did before. That’s from my own experience.

But I have not abandoned blog commenting altogether. I comment on my favourite posts once in a week. But I don’t do it for traffic generation.

However commenting still works to build backlinks (and with Commentluv enabled blogs, that’s a double plus)! Backlinks help pushing your pages in SERPs, they’re good for SEO (ya still!) and hence indirectly help you get more (search) traffic.

Sticking with blog commenting also helps you stay active in your niche community!

Bottom line: There is no “generalized” opinion on this issue! With time and with your kind of business, you need to tweak your approach with blog commenting. And the results you get out of it also changes with time and with the kind of your business. You can’t expect a flood of traffic with blog commenting; but it does help you stay connected.

Social media

This is one heck of a controversial topic. Some say it works and some say it doesn’t. Both are true in some sense.

Some big bloggers say “Don’t spend too much time on social media. It’s a waste”! That’s so true. Social media is certainly a time killer.

If you know how to stay in control of your time while you’re on social media, then you’re safe. If not, you’re in trouble.

However, in spite of all these bitter facts, social media still acts as a great channel to promote your posts. It is a place where the crowd gathers; so it is also a place where you’ll get noticed for sure.

For me promoting my posts on Facebook works great! For the others it could be Twitter, Google+ or whatever.

In my opinion, social media is a wonderful outlet to promote our blog posts and generate traffic.

Of course, you cannot be sure what kind of traffic you get if you don’t connect and interact with the right people. The amount of traffic you are able to attract also depends on your “kind” of presence on the social media.

If you login to Facebook only to post links to your blog post, then it won’t be surprising to see that you aren’t getting any traffic.

I submit my presence not just as an internet marketer. I scan my stream, participate in funny discussions, share funny and motivating stuff, and share some personal stuff (at an appropriate level) and all that. I’m basically that kind of person and I enjoy being that way on Facebook.

As a result when I post links to my posts they are very well received!

Bottom line: Again, there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution. Social media works for some and doesn’t work for the others. And even so, some social media platforms work for some and some other platforms work for the others. Test and find out what works for you and spend quality time on it.

Bottom bottom line: Social media traffic might not be sticky and could lead to increase in bounce rates (that’s from my experience). Coz when people click through a link from their social media stream, people might not be very serious!

Formula for traffic generation?

As much as I and Jeevan have discussed what doesn’t work and what works, it’s just about time when everyone’s mind starts asking “Isn’t there a formula to generate blog traffic?”

I wish I knew the formula that works for everyone. But I know the one that works for me in a consistent manner. I’m not talking about the traffic spikes – but the right kind of targeted traffic that is consistently growing.

It is a 3 step formula and all the 3 steps are highly crucial.

1. Create high quality useful content. You cannot by pass this step if you want to attract traffic in the first place and if you want to also keep the traffic you’ve attracted.

2. Don’t be shy to promote your blog posts. You may use social media, blog commenting, guest blogging and all those tactics to promote your post. Choose the one which works for you. But whatever you mode you choose, make sure you establish yourself in the community first. Don’t be just a poster of your own blog post links.

3. Don’t ignore SEO. I know what you’re thinking. With the very frequent changes in search engine algorithms it is very hard to predict what “effect” your SEO campaign will produce. But stick to the basics. That should just be fine. Basics = Know your keywords, optimize your posts for potential keywords (don’t over-optimize, though), build backlinks.

Let me know what works for you and what doesn't. Let's learn from each other.

  1. Well hello Jane, when it comes to blog commenting or posting on social sites you need to have an idea of what you are trying to achieve. For me, blog commenting is now less about traffic generation but connecting with other bloggers to understand what is working currently and developing relationships with the pioneers to enable us to help more people in the future.

    igor

    1. That’s right Igor. Commenting may bring traffic. But you cannot trust it as a serious traffic source. Connecting with people matters, of course. Most of my blogging pals are earned via blog commenting and social media hangouts!

    2. I’m with you Igor. It’s less about traffic generation as much as it is about building context between you and someone else. That relationship and the ‘rapport’ that’s being built is way more valuable than the spike in traffic .

Jane, I have actually tested commenting as a traffic source only, on a completely new blog. And I’ve found I can generate 100 page views/day and have between 30 – 50 brand new visits/day to your site in a week. Guaranteed. I also spoke to Jeevan about this. You just need to do it right.

When it comes to social media traffic; true, targeted traffic comes from a few months of hard work building a true account of followers that genuinely follow ‘you’ and not a system. That’s when you get the true gold.

  2. Wonderful post Jane!

I do agree that to a certain extent blog commenting and social media does help, but that’s not the only thing as well. There is much more to getting traffic to your blog than meets the eye. 🙂

I guess you do need both of these more so if you are a new blogger and just started out blogging, but as you get better with your blog and ranking, and start providing quality content, you get the traffic to your blog without really having to make much of an effort.

And yes, knowing the correct keywords to use, taking care of SEO, and sharing your content thereafter on various platform though is time consuming, but worth it.

    Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    1. SEO is always time consuming and boring in my opinion. But surely is worth it lol.

  3. Blog commenting does in fact bring in traffic, but don’t only rely on that method. It won’t bring in much.

Social media is one of the best ways to get traffic and I don’t understand why some don’t agree with that and claim to be “wasteful time”. If your weakness is to waste time on social sites, then find a way not to through your experimentation.

Traffic generation is such a large topic. Each individual has to find his own system and follow through with it.

    1. Yes Sam, each individual should find their model and tweak it as time goes on 🙂

  4. Blog commenting was always and is still an excellent SEO technique if done properly i.e. commenting intelligently (adding value) on niche related blogs….No matter how many new techniques spring up…

While commenting on a no-follow blog might get you streams of referral traffic, commenting on a do-follow blog brings you backlinking credit (And Google does give importance to such links :] ).

The technique works great with me, I use Keyword Country to find traffic-pulling, high authority, related blogs to comment on…I am all for it!

    1. Sure, blog commenting helps build backlinks and can also help in quick indexing of new posts.

  5. Every thing is changed after Google Panda and Penguin Update. These are nightmares for me.. I am still fighting for my blog against them. I am generating quality posts but still there is less difference in web traffic.. Though Social Media is playing a great role and always will be.

  6. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I do believe blog commenting provides seo value, which in turn drives traffic. I think even non-commentluv sites provide seo value. I feel blog commenting is the original social media. Google is all about content, and blog commenting is one of the most direct ways to interact with web content. We all know it’s also used for spamming, but Google probably does a fairly good job of filtering out the true comments from the noise.

    1. Norm, you’re right about non-commentluv sites. Yes those backlinks provide SEO value as well. And not only commenting, anything which can be misused is always misused.

  7. Jane,

These are excellent thoughts. I really want to commend you for the thoughts on Blog Commenting. Blog commenting has had a significant impact on my traffic but not as part of some scammy, spammy comment program where I blast through a bunch of blogs and leave comments.

Generating traffic from comments is about adding value to the discussion, having readers enjoy your comment and wanting to find out more… This also tends to be sticky traffic… From my experience.

    Good stuff!!

    Ryan H.

    1. Ryan completely agree that. Traffic that comes from blog commenting is usually sticky coz it is not something that comes from a playful mind lol. Those who click through your link from your comment did so coz they most likely got impressed.

    1. You’re right Rob. And that’s the point I make in this post. Every biz model has to tweak their traffic generation formula according to their needs and then again, tweak it often as they progress and analyze the results they get.

  8. These strategies complement our work but at the end of the day, all that matters is to write quality content, otherwise nobody would come back to our blog anymore. Nevertheless, we also need to boost thing a little (social media, blog commenting), otherwise people wouldn’t know about our site

  9. As I’m not a professional Blogger like you (Jane and Jeevan) and I don’t have any other good method of traffic generation for my blog. Till now only blog commenting is the best method for me which brings good traffic on my blog.

I’ve just started Guest Blogging and have published only two guest posts till now. I hope guest Blogging will be another source of traffic for my blog soon.

BTW thanks for clearing it Jane, Good night.

  10. Hey Jane,

Thank you for the appreciation and for the response post 🙂

Yes, I agree. If used in the right way, Social media and commenting can bring us a lot of traffic, but what type of traffic is it?

In social media, our posts are [mostly] only visible to our followers (unless of course, it is shared and/or commented upon – in that case, you will get more exposure).

I wouldn’t abandon these two things as traffic sources, they are great for building relationships and networking with them.

But, as for people who are looking for immediate traffic (I think, to an extent, many of us are looking for immediate increase in traffic), these two methods aren’t viable.

Of course, we could get more traffic through participation – like you mentioned, posting in groups and participating in pages etc. That builds both relationships and get us traffic.

As for commenting, it can bring some traffic, and it is indeed great for SEO (I didn’t talk about that part because SEO is becoming more and more unreliable due to Google changing their algorithms every month or so). But, yes, having those back links is great and it counts for SERPS.

Of course, in the long term, these are great traffic sources. But, we should also think about the short term, right?

When a blogger starts out, he/she wishes for traffic increase. And those traffic spikes can work wonders – if done effectively, we can convert those traffic spike visitors into loyal visitors who care.

But, yes, once we get more consistent traffic, once we become established, we should work our way to build the right kind of targeted traffic.

Anyways, thank you for the awesome post, Jane!

    Jeevan Jacob John

By the way, I liked the idea of writing a post as a response to another one, it works, doesn’t it? 😀

    1. Actually I started typing a comment and I had to cover more and more. So half way through I stopped and thought I could simply write a post – yes it works 🙂 This is the first time I’m trying it.

Of course, participation in any form (blog commenting, forum commenting etc.) will bring traffic. But it is not a reliable source and you cannot expect great numbers.

Was great interacting with you and other commenters this way, Jeevan!

  11. Jane, I do think that social media is useful in some ways, but bloggers should not be relying only on that. As you said, great and well-researched content is key and should be the main focus of all bloggers.

    1. Amen on “well-researched content is key” Mariella. Allour efforts are meaningless without it!

  12. I believe commenting is a great way to gain some traffic as well as social media but I would add communities. If you are part of communities it will add to more traffic to your blog or website. And of course quality content rules 🙂

  13. Great article here Jane.

Making one comment on different blogs every other day is not enough for a blog’s survival. You have to be making tons of blog comments per day and of course this does take lots of time.

The same can be said for social media. You can’t expect to get hundreds of hits by sharing only one link. You have to spend time to build up an audience and then you share things with them in which they are interested in.

Nice points that you have made here. Nice work!

    1. Yup Kharim. Blog commenting (and good quality commenting) takes up some time. If I do it for traffic it adds up pressure on my head. So I do it only for connecting with people and voicing my opinion in the blogosphere. That way, I do it as a much relaxed tasks and chill out 🙂 And yes, it does drive traffic – I consider that as a by-product!

  14. Kimberly Gauthier

This is such a great post and simply put.

It’s amazing what quality does for a site. My site is almost 6 months old and it’s doing great. I learned a lot from my other blogs and other bloggers.

Creating quality content is so important; when people come to my site , I want to capture their interest and encourage them to keep them around. I saw a blog post today that had 3 sentences and an image. I didn’t understand the point of the post? Was I supposed to visit a link? I didn’t learn a thing. It was a great reminder for me to make sure that my posts are clear and that people leave my site having learned something.

Quality contents have increased my traffic tremendously. I’ve connected with many people who said “I saw your comments on ____.”

    Kimberly

    1. May be you were seeing a blog comment, lol! When people can’t write blog posts that others can understand, I don’t see how they will write useful blog comments that could drive traffic!

  15. Neither commenting nor social media is out yet. Both still works. It will depend on type of blogs you have and also the type of people following you on social media. I wrote an article on “how to use the Indian toilet” and it generated 100’s of views in just one day on various social media sites. I am expecting at 1000’s. So I think its all about how informative the post is not to mention the uniqueness.
As rightly said by you, SEO cannot be ignored. The tradition methods such as quality content, article submissions, on/off site seo, keywords must also be used. There is too much snake oil when it comes to traffic generation. What works for one blog is useless for another.

    1. Shalu yup I visited your blog the other day and was amazed by the info you share. Being an Indian, I enjoyed your blog very much! SEO works always – as I said the basics never change 🙂

  16. Hi Jane! You always write such great posts–that I have to stop and read them no matter what I am doing. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to Jeevan’s post with some of your unique insights. I understand the points he made, however, social media and blog commenting are still two great ways to build relationships and network within your niche, and that can only be helpful to a site in the long run.

    1. Hey Sam 🙂 thanks so much for stopping by and reading my post! Yes blog commenting and social media are still in the equation!

  17. Hello Jane,

I’ll say that blog commenting and social media works and also not works. 🙂 If we do it in right way then its going to work for sure, but if we do it in normal way then its obvious that we’ll get normal results.

    Blog Commenting:

I’ve seen many people commenting awesome post, nice instructional post, I got all your points types of comment, which many blogger consider spam comments. If your comments sounds same to all those comments then its sure you will not going to get something in return by typing those stupid words.

If you really want that your each comment pay you off then try to write comment that really encourage discussion between you and admin. The best way to do this

1- Try to disagree with admin, poster
    2- Post your opinion
3- Explain admin post in your own shorter way.
4- Or add some more value to it

    Social Media:

I’ve seen many people share there blog posts on Facebook, twitter without being creative. Just add title of post and link of post hit enter. I think that’s not going to work as you want.

Share your post in creative way like

1- share small snippet of your post with link
2- share your post with related quotes
3- Add a screenshot of your post at the time of sharing

And many other ways.. Just be little creative you’ll find many effective ways to get tons of likes and retweets. 🙂

    1. Romy, thanks for the wonderful additions. I agree with what you say (just kidding lol) – seriously, since the internet is overwhelmed, we need to be creative in order to stand out. There is no point in complaining that we don’t get the expected results off social media without standing out – there is just so much crowd; no one to blame.

  18. I think check out flow, get involved in humorous conversations, discuss humorous and encouraging things, and discuss some personal things at an appropriate level, and all that. It is generally that type of person and I appreciate being that way on Facebook or MySpace…Thanks for the sharing..

  19. Creating Good quality content is the first step to get genuine reader attention. Readers visit to your blogs if your blog is attractive and contain unique, informative and good quality content. To get more traffic, use social media sites to promote your blogs or do search engine optimization. This will helps a lot to get traffic. Social media sites are the great source of traffic.

    1. Yes content is still king. We should start promoting our content only after we make sure that we have quality content for the traffic that we are able to generate via our blog promotion strategies (commenting, social media, guest posting etc.)

  20. Hi Jane I agree with you we should not simply post our articles alone in the social media sites, instead we should interact with the others, previously I did the same mistake…

  21. Anton Koekemoer

This I have to admit is quite an impressive guide (or formula as you’ve put it) to follow when blogging – Personal or Professional alike. Though when it comes to Social Media and having an authoritative presence people usually make the mistake of trying to use shortcuts in gaining followers or readers. This is a tactic that the -ever so present in conversations online- Search Engine algorithms are becoming (yes, Panda and Penguin being most recent) good at spotting and devaluating. A lot of people don’t approach marketing in a white (hat) kind of way as they are supposed to (according to Google’s Guidelines).

  22. Well the article is great, but this info has been on this site for 100+ times, you probably should try to come up with something new in order to pull traffic 🙂

  23. Top quality articles is the first step to get authentic audience attention.I recognize with you we should not generally post our articles alone in the sites, instead we should interact socially with the others, formerly I did the same mistake…

  24. I think the whole social media thing was overblown anyway, the real core of the whole thing has always been quality. You might be able to get some success without it, but really its all about the content… so focus on that and the rest will follow surely.

  25. Great post Jane, I would like to mention something about SEO.
Many people think that it’s useless and that everyone can succeed without it, but at the end the truth is that SEO are the “veins” of any blog. And as you mentioned, the Traffic is blood that goes through those veins. Beside blog commenting and guest posting, please don’t neglect your SEO, particularly after all these Google updates.
    thanks for sharing 🙂

  26. Every thing is changed after Google Panda and Penguin Update. These are nightmares for me.. I am still fighting for my blog against them. I am generating quality posts but still there is less difference in web traffic.. Though Social Media is playing a great role and always will be.

  27. Hi Jane,

I actually do get traffic from some commenting but you always have to adjust and see what comments work or not. Commenting is not only used for traffic, but for links in SEO. Social media works great as well, and have been able to leverage those social sites to my advantage.

    Thanks!

  28. I used to comment in other blogs. But i never used it as a method of promotion.
Social media is always worth using. I am using it to drive a lot of traffic. But many times it is consuming a lot of my time.
Anyway this is an awesome post.

  29. Hi Jane..
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts….
I do believe in the ‘Power of Comments’… but as you wrote that our comment must be genuine and it should not only to grab the attention.

While commenting we should keep the respect of the auther in our mind.
We should properly responce to the question/queries raised for our comment.

Commenting is like a online conversation with blog auther and fellow blogger…..we are part of community and Coments are medium of conversation in this community.

  30. Well said Jane, I like your writing skill very much! Blog commenting and Social Media always sends lots of traffic to the blog, and a Good thing is Comment is made by me here for backlink for my blog 😀 , Thanks for the article!

  31. What has generally worked for me is to make sure that comments posted are either helpful or insightful – in other words help strengthen what the article was trying to get across AND add additional value for other readers. Thanks Jane

  32. Excellent post Jane. I saw Jeevan’s post myself and I was impressed. I think we need to be all over the place or like Danny Iny, “Everywhere”. All those factors work, but spreading yourself too thin promoting where it might not give you anything back on your ROI is time-wasted. I learned that along time ago, so I just stick to works for me and avoid what doesn’t. Does that I mean I ignore all outlets? No, but I try and work “smarter” and not “harder”.

  33. Jane,
You suggest that I not ignore SEO. I have. My bad. I don’t understand it very well. Can you suggest a place I could go to learn SEO…but in really simple to understand and apply language?
    Thank you!

  34. Hi Jane,

SEO is really important aspect if you’re looking to increase your website traffic. You must focus on “On Page Optimization” and “Off Page Optimization” for getting higher output.

Blog commenting is useful for getting minimal traffic, but you can’t expect traffic bombard. Social Media is a great platform for attractive visitors but you must promote among relevant audience.

  35. Nice post..Every thing is changed after Google Panda and Penguin Update…now google is focusing on natural link if you have any paid link google can penalize you..

  36. Faissal Alhaithami

Blog commenting may not be very useful as a traffic-booster. But it does help you make your presence felt, get your blog noticed and connect with other niche bloggers who might be of great help in the near future.

    Thanks.

    1. As a traffic source, probably not the most effective but for making new friends sure thing. I’ve met some great people just from leaving comments so I know the importance of leaving them.

  37. I agree, we can not generalize if blog commenting and social media does not working
for them.Still, it is how you implement it. great post jane !

  38. Hi Jane,

I’m on the side that believes blog comments still work, especially as backlinks for SEO. I don’t think they generate a lot of direct traffic for most people, but I consistently see sites ranked high that have a ton of blog comments. Unfortunately I still see sites spamming the crap out of blogs and still ranking high despite all of Google’s updates and algo changes that were/are supposed to crack down on this stuff.

I also think blog comments are one of the best ways to interact with your audience and build up a reputation.

I have to disagree with anyone who says blog comments don’t work anymore.

I also think social media is important, but the hardest part is finding the time to stay engaged. It’s not very effective if you don’t put a lot of effort into making sure you’re always there interacting with people.

  39. I always try to comment on other blogs since I’m fairly new to blogging so I may have some good blogger friends. However, it is really time consuming. Regarding social media, I use it a lot and I give a lot time to it.

  40. write high quality content is the best way to get permanent traffic from search engine and when comes to social media the traffic is not permanent.

  41. But is there a fixed formula? How many comments per day should I leave? If i have three sites, then how do I make the comments with the commentLuv and keyword luv plug ins? Do i need to use different browsers for every Gravatar that I use?

  42. I think Social media is one of the best ways to get traffic and I don’t understand why some don’t agree with that and claim to be “wasteful time”. If your weakness is to waste time on social sites, then find a way not to through your experimentation. Interesting Post, thanks for sharing.

  43. Hi Jane,

I’m very pleased to read your article on Madam Ileane’s Blog (basicblogtips.com). After lots of efforts I have successfully complete all those tips you shared in the above post. Thanking your from broad point of view.

  44. I think you need to be strategic in commenting or it can be a time waster. Blogs in your niche and blogs that will give you exposure are the best places to comment.

  45. Thank you Jane for this interesting post. Traffic generation is a matter of concern for every online business or any website. I agree that content can be a great way to generate traffic as a good, excellent, well-written and informative content is capable of attracting a huge targeted visitors. I also agree to the other two formulas and by employing these techniques it will surely aid in generating high quality traffic.

  46. Jane,

I feel that blog commenting is still a great way to network, build links and get more traffic. If bloggers don’t take part in blog commenting, then they are going to miss out on a lot of good traffic and awesome relationships.

    Adam

  47. Social Media is the best media to generate traffic and blog commenting is also work well if done its right way.

  48. I agree that commenting does generate some traffic, but I wouldn’t fully depend on it. Looks at forums and social media. They’re your best best!

    1. I agree, its not the most effective way of getting “proper” visitors, but it can help in getting some people that would find out information useful.

  49. Hi Jane,

Blog commenting works well with us. Yes, it’s true that its main purpose is to build backlinks and for traffic generation but we see to it that in every comments we leave is quality wise and insightful one. You may not know someone will be interested with you or your company with the comments you leave. Hoping for this to be possible – generating sales leads through blog commenting. Who may know right? All is possible when you believe and you work for it.

  50. I’ve always found blog commenting to be really tedious and time consuming for traffic generation, and I’ve even heard people saying that it doesn’t even work anymore! Your post and the comments posted reassured me that blog commenting is not a waste of my time, so I will try to stick with it =)

  51. Thank you Jane for this interesting post.Blog commenting is now less about traffic generation but connecting with other bloggers to understand what is working currently and developing relationships.

  52. I agree with you, Jane, when you pointed out that commenting and using social media can still drive more traffic for as long as it is done properly. And yes, there is really no definite formula. Be open to whatever options that are available, evaluate which ones work best for you and your blog, and then focus on them.

  53. Blog commenting and Social media can’t be out for generating traffic from them. Blog commenting and promotion on social media both works well for me.

  54. RSS excellent for creating dynamic content, however by using RSS feeds you can have more control of the relevancy of what is being placed with your content. You can get very targeted feeds when you do a little investigating on your own.

  55. Hi Jane!

Well certainly a great post and I am agree with you that there is no point of formula that works for everyone and I learn that with the passage of time and proper research and time to time analysis of the results eventually gives you the formula which works better for you and of course SEO and building high quality content are essentials for it.

  56. I believe commenting is a great method to gain some traffic and ranks. Google Panda and Penguin Update changed very thing. but I don’t trust social media traffic yet.

  57. Truth be told, I get nearly all of my traffic by commenting on other blogs, and the same applies for the comments I get on my blog – mostly from other bloggers. I also see the most successful bloggers still comment on other blogs like mad – Ileane, Adrienne, Sire – they all comment on each others’ blogs. I hear what you say about killer content and I agree, but I’m not going to be stopping my commenting any time soon.

  58. nice post. i am a new blogger this post is very useful to me and i came to know that commenting on other blogs also increase the page rank and traffic from your post. Thanks for sharing.i ll bookmark your site a good informative site for bloggers.

  59. Nice post, Jane.

I think a healthy balance of onsite seo and off site seo, is a sure way of keeping a stable flow of traffic to a site….

If we rely too heavily on one route, we may be “short changing ” our sites potential, in the long run……

Agree with other comments that, blog commenting is not only a great way to build traffic to our sites, it is also a way to build relationships…(It’s a slower process for traffic building, though it has many other benefits)….

  60. it is proven fact that commenting is a great source of traffic but the most important and effective is quality content because your commenting is useless without good content,it will also convert your visitors to regular readers.

  61. Great comments. I’m fairly new to the blogging community and I’m loving it!! As you say, there’s no right way or 1 size fits all solution to generating traffic, but I’m always looking for new ways to continue building my readership – thanks for the info. One constant piece of advice I’ve been given also is to be patient and persistent – you won’t get millions of hits overnight, but in time you can get substantial traffic if you stick to it and are smart about how you do it. Best of luck to everyone!

  62. Thanks for sharing this good content.

I believe consistency is the key when it comes to getting regular traffic from blog commenting, blogging and other traffic methods. I agree that creating quality content is important as it is the main thing that make people coming back.

It will be a great idea to do blog commenting to get the visitors to come to my own blog and get them to read the content that I have created on the blog.

    Time to get to work.

  63. Hi Jane,

Nice write up. I like the way to write it down and appreciate that.

Creating quality content is vital and engagement is also important. You got to balance the best of both worlds before you can actually earn some good traffic.

Ileane, I think there’s an optin form error at the bottom of the post. You might want to check that out 🙂 <– feel free to delete this!

Blog commenting in action! I found your post from the comment you left on my blog. What a great way to meet other bloggers and trade cool tips.

First off I want to thank you for the shout out.

Secondly it shows that your blog commenting skills are taking off. You are attracting a good amount of people to your blog. This the the benefit of paying it forward.

Now to answer your question about what bugs me about comments…

Two things. When people don’t have a Gravatar of their smiling face and when they leave a simple one liner. They are missing the boat big time. the chance relationship could be a customer, business partner or JV…you never know!
