6 Top Gadgets That Are Essential for Pro-Bloggers

Gadgets are becoming a popular and very essential in our daily life. I learned these from the experience I’ve gained, but also from asking many close friends from around the globe, who are involved in technology and blogging simultaneously. It can also be stated that “no gadgets, no blogging”. I've managed to find the best gadgets that can be very helpful for most of us who are bloggers.

Lastly, I put together a combination of top 6 most essential blogger gadgets.

Look at the list of blogger gadgets below and you’ll find out just how really important they are:

Top Gadgets for Bloggers

1. Netbook or Laptop:

A notebook/laptop is essential and every bloggers need to stay on the web 24 x 7. Not only you’ll have the wireless setup to allow you to remain around campus and work, but it’s also a flexible device that can be carried along with you, or taken home for the couple of days in your bag.

A laptop is designed to take a seat on your lap and you'll thus expect it to be quite large and packed down with features and the ability.

Most laptops today have similar specs to desktop pcs; my own laptop has a built-in processor that's faster than my 6 month old desktop. Based on what you do, you can either go for a 15-inch or 17-inch laptop or perhaps a 10-inch Netbook. The point I’m attempting to get across is the ability to do the job anywhere, which is key to your blogging success.

2. External Hard Drive:

External devices are a part of our lives now as many people are gathering more and more files. I can remember when I was impressed by a new external hard drive on my computer. This is a must have for on-the-go professional bloggers who know the way in which digital technology works. There will be tons of business opportunity for you to find a useful piece of information or even a media file. Today, people have a larger amount of GB external hard drives or even larger, but the smaller ones will always be in handy. All this will depend on how much space you personally need.

The benefits of having an external hard drive:

•    It’s a portable device
•    Safe Backup Device
•    Easily upgradeable
•    Can store a lot of Data and files
•    Will keep your PC from getting blocked with downloads and huge files
•    You can format anytime

3. Wireless Router or Data card:

In today’s Internet era, everyone wants to stay connected, whether it is their own home, office or business spot. For that reason, installing of good quality wireless router or a data card is a must.

Blogging can be a stressful job in some cases. Clearly, how can we manage to blog effectively without having the Internet? If you’ve been running a blog for a quite good length of time, you must have found a poor Internet connection. Getting a good wireless router or data card or any other is a must. In addition to it, a backup Internet service concerning data card is likewise significant. If you're using iPhone or iPad, one can definitely make use of Internet tethering services in order to share your online coverage. It’s safer to go wireless for everything rather than establishing with wire completely.

4. SmartPhone:

Modern smartphones like the iPhone and Google Android are a more challenging device than a laptop computer. With a smartphone, you can always cut down on the couple of devices which you carry with you at any time limit. Since bloggers spend frequently at home and also their own office, what is nice about all of these is that one would not have to go to a computer to publish your data in order to share it with people.

For professional bloggers like us, having a smartphone will make a great difference. For communicating and branding, you can even install apps like Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Google+, and much more.

As a freelancer and a website designer, I usually use Skype on my smartphone for a quick chat with my clients, while I’m on the move.

5. Printer and Scanner:

There are lots of great printer and scanner developments. Since blogging is a hectic job, you will not believe how many times I honestly needed a printer and scanner for my job. Believe me as a blogger, you’ll need it a whole lot. My piece of advice will be to use travel time when possible. Also, I suggest that you get a Fax, which can be very useful occasionally. I recommend trying out the new HP multifunctional printer models, which have great benefits I'm sure every geek wants to own.

Sometimes, you’ll have to publish an image or a piece of content. For this, you might need a printer and a scanner to take an image of your desired content to upload to your website or blog.

6. Professional Digital Camera:

Though photography was perhaps not added into your job description, having a digital camera can help meet both professional and fun objectives. A digital camera is something every pro-blogger needs to have for their use. Personally, I’m a great fan of Canon digital cameras. Displaying one of a kind and relevant images on your own blog can bring you lots of website visitors and for taking HD photos, a professional digital camera is very important.

I hope you find these gadgets valuable. These are my most recommended gadgets for pro-bloggers.

Please share your recommended gadgets for bloggers.

  1. Nice list. I think dropbox has pretty much replaced external hard drives for me. It backs up automatically, removed the need for another piece of hardware and syncs automatically to all of your devices. Not great for huge files but unless you are doing lots of video it works well, I still use it for my video files and it just meant I had to get a paid plan.

Number 2 tool is the 13″ macbook air, have hardly used my iPad since getting it, can work anywhere forever, super fast, I love it (it replaced a much bigger windows 7 17″ powerhouse laptop which I don’t miss one bit!)

    1. Thanks Dan for liking the list of gadgets mentioned in the post. I would appreciate you for sharing information on dropbox and 13″ macbook air.

  2. As I blogger, I would say some of the software used to create images, camera, print, external hard drive or basically, a computer or a laptop are needed for a blogger.

Post usually includes image so camera would be useful. And printer when when read other blog post.

Really great, you came up with those things thatt are important to blogger and needed to use while blogging.

    1. Thanks Ferb for your appreciation. Yes, I do agree that in blogging few software are required to create images such as camera or external hard drive.

  3. I recently purchased an iGo charger for my Droid and just love it. You can charge your phone on the go and it can be used for 2 phones including Droids and iPhones. You always should be on to respond to anything coming in at you.

    1. That’s absolutely true Lisa that we should always be on to respond anyone at anytime. It’s great that iGo charger can be used for both Droids and iPhones.

  4. You have not mention about tablets which are i think getting more and more popular day by day. The reason is that bloggers had to read latest news and stories and tablet or e-book reader is a best option.

    1. Yes Mohsin I do agree with you that there are many popular tablets existing, but I concentrated only on the top 6 gadgets which are most helpful for bloggers.

    1. Kenny I do agree with you that professional digital camera is very effective tool which is very much needed by bloggers.

  5. Nice list, I am addicted to my smartphone (Android, I love Google..). With the latest update to WordPress app, now we can do complete blog management from the phone even plugin management, so a must have for me….Combination of Dropbox and smartphone and we don’t need to carry anything else..

    1. Thanks Sanjeev , I think not only you most of the bloggers are addicted to many of this tools for keep themselves updated with latest news and to manage the work from any where without wasting the time.

  6. Spatch Merlin

I think you should mention about tablets too. I am a blogger too and iPad2 has been very useful for me. Not only that it is lighter than a laptop, it’s 3G connection allows you to go online while on the move.

    Spatch Merlin

  7. I have just started to use my smartphone more for managing portions of my online life, but I have yet to use it for blogging. I still prefer either a desktop or laptop for managing my blog, but using my smartphone allows me to perform some tasks while I am on the go.

    1. Paul as you are new to smartphone you must be feeling uncomfortable in using it, but I can assure you that once you are habituated to this smartphone you will feel it is much easier to work on it rather than laptops and desktop.

  8. TOTALLY agree with all these! The only I do not have yet is a professional digital camera. I like taking pics with my phone and all because it’s convenient, but nothing beats a really good digital camera! 🙂

One that isn’t listed is a tablet, while not essential, would be really awesome to have. =D

    1. Thanks Morgan for reading the post. As you are interested in taking pics digital camera will be very helpful for you. And as I’ve replied earlier I will definitely write on the latest tablets in my upcoming posts.

  9. I think having a good smart phone is the most important thing after a good laptop, I have to admit I struggle with my phone as its very average and is just not built for surfing the web that well! My next phone will be an iPhone I think because theres so many brilliant apps!

    1. Yes Harriet its absolutely right that earlier phones don’t have much surfing facility like iPhones. Thats a great thought to have a iPhone.

    2. Harriet, I’d like to suggest you, instead of getting iPhone, buy a laptop (in case you are buying for blogging purpose). It will save your money and give you more out of it.

I’ve a smartphone, too. I can do everything on my phone what I do with my laptop but I still prefer laptop for more comfort. I do have around 10-15 tabs opened at the same time in my browsers, always. It’s easy to switch when I’m with my laptop.

      1. I already have a laptop but I was thinking about getting a netbook to use on long journeys , which netbook would you recomend?

  10. Mohd,

Good list. I would replace hard drive, though. Cloud storage is quickly taking over for that for many bloggers.

I would also add that video components are a need, at least eventually. Most bloggers will want to have a high quality micorphone and some sort of video camera for making Vlogs and youtube videos for promotion/traffic at least

  11. I have all these things however external hard drive is absent. Will surely buy a new one to fulfil all things that are must for pro bloggers.

  12. Hey Mohd,

This is a great list of gadgets a blogger should have. Unfortunately, I don’t have many of these – I guess I could get them in the future 😉

Anyways, thanks for the suggestions through your post,

    Jeevan

      1. Thanks for including me in the awesome bloggers list 😉 Appreciate that (And I honored). But, I don’t think I am yet there (or I deserve to be) in the awesome list, have to work a little more harder to get harder. Thanks anyways 🙂

        1. I don’t know, exactly. But it’s only YOU, who can judge properly if you are there or not. And your said, you don’t think you desrver to be.., that’s not right man.

Anyways, good luck with your blogging.

          1. Jeevanjacobjohn

Yes, I agree. But, I don’t think I deserve to be there, not at least now 😉

I will of course (I will try my best) in the future 😀

            Thanks!

  13. Thank you so much Jeevanjacobjohn for appreciating my post and liking it. And I am sure you will definitely possess all the above important gadgets in future. All the best…

  14. Great list, basically the laptop is the most important and the handy internet connection provider. Cool! As a blogger, it’s always necessary to bring a computer with him every now and then.

  15. I agree above mentioned gadgets are essential for pro bloggers but the basic one is laptop or palmtop.

  16. Hehe… good list. And I’m really happy that I have starting 4. But I don’t have a printer & scanner and a digital camera. 🙁 But have a plan to buy one HD camera soon. 😀

  17. Nice list.

I’m gonna have to agree with everyone else here though, external harddrives are a bit of a dinosaur these days.
And I’ve gotta say I love my HD video camera.
I also love that I can make a note on my iPhone while I’m out and about and it automatically stores in my e-mail inbox as a reminder of what I need to do when I hop on my Mac Book.
    I love technology.

  18. I’m not pro-blogger, but I think I have most of these things and maybe 1 day I will be able to consider myself a “Professional” at blogging. Cool article, thanks for sharing, Mohd!

  19. Yikes, I am missing two of those six gadgets. what to do now 🙂 Seriously, one of them is the last one and I have been procrastinating on which one to buy. hopefully I will treat myself soon with one.. right after I spend countless hours of research to see which one os best and not so expensive, lol.

  20. Great list bro … I feel a Laptop, Wireless router, Smartphone really important to me as of now. Agree with your words that now-a-days smartphones are more challenging than laptops

  21. Good list all these are essentials when itcome to making sure you are on top of your game – good read

  22. I’m a big fan of cannon digital cameras too. I also really like their printers. I know that many people like to debate the topic, but after using both a mac and a pc. I really think any blogger can be a significantly more productive with a Mac. That’s the one thing I would add. Thanks for a great post.

  23. Using gadgets is depends on working or business needs. Most common is computer or laptop to get access to internet world.

  24. I have to say that I love my iPad2. When I’m on vacation I can take care of the basics of my online business. I also have a Hot-Spot so I can access the Internet almost anywhere I go, even some of the beaches I’ve been. 🙂

I highly recommend having an external hard-drive for all your data. I have 2 laptops and a desktop of which each one has the main programs I use for my business such as camtasia, wisiwyg, ftp, photoshop etc… that way when one of my pc’s goes ape on me, and they DO tend to do that from time to time, I always have my data stored where I can use it on another pc.

    🙂

  25. Kimberly Gauthier, Adventures in Blogging

I have all of these and it’s amazing. This list is perfect. I work on my blog on my commute to and from my day job so I would also add a wifi card (if you can’t use your phone, I can’t).

  26. Having a net book and iPad have increased my blogging tremendously. The apps have made it so easy there really is no excuse to not blog.

  27. Yeah absolutely these all gadgets are really essential for the bloggers. Infact I would want to add Tablet too in this list as it proves very much helpful to the bloggers when they are away from there laptops/pc.

  28. I’ve recently starting using a laptop you keep my blog up to date. It’s great as I can sit with the family, watch TV and do research on items as well as post comments. I found tablet pc’s a little more awkward when typing 300+ words for a blog post. Much easier on a laptop..

    1. Ya Graham this is really true that spending time with family is also important, therefore the laptop is very helpful in this case for bloggers.

  29. Edwardo Gerrior

One thing’s for sure, Lenovo sucks. The monitor is easily damage within a year. Sure, they fixed it within the warranty but was broken again. What is the best printer you guys can recommend. I’m looking for a All-in-one printer but not sure which brand is best. Highly appreciate it for any replies on this.

    1. Hey Edwardo Gerrior, I completely don’t agree with you, because I use Lenovo only but i did not face any problem. I think it depends upon the usage of the products.

  30. Thats great, but smartphone is helpful for the people who mostly travel and can’t work through they pc’s. I think you travel less and get time to check the frequent updates.

    1. I think canon g12 is easy control as well as easy compact and if you are looking for quality in compaq then I believe this may be one of your best option. Before that I suggest your go to shop and test it and then you will love it like me!

  31. using a laptop i keep my blog up to date. It’s great as I can sit with the family, watch TV and do research on items as well as post comments.much easy when you use laptop in typing your blog with many words you want .

    1. I get what you’re saying here septem. In fact, a few years later, we’ll have another great list gadgets of what we should have not bought.

  32. this list is perfect, i find the little USB sticks very versatile and the sizes you can get them in now are perfect for large files for on the go.
every month i see them cheaper and cheaper, with larger memory options becoming available

    1. Hey John thanks for finding the list interesting, yes you are right due to a large demand and use of USB devices they are becoming more cheaper along with great memory options.

  33. Sony Bloggie and digital voice recorders are other gadgets we should have. The Bloggie allows you to record and take photos while you can capture great interviews with the voice recorder. Both allow you to upload to your site directly through USB.

    1. @Marcie,

Yes, I completely agree with you. They are other very important gadgets that we should have. Thank you all for reading and commenting.
