AWeber Tour and Rapportive Integration in Gmail

AWeber Communications is located right on the outskirts of Philadelphia and since the headquarters is only 15 minutes from my home, I signed up for a recent email marketing workshop. It was a real treat for me to visit AWeber, since I am a huge fan of their email marketing service, and it's always good to have face-to-face contact with people in the “real world” as much as possible. 🙂 I'm an even bigger fan of AWeber now that I got to see how much they care about their customers and this workshop is just one of many outreach events they have on their calendar.

Jay Moore the “Voice” of AWeber

One of the things that most impressed me most about AWeber when I signed up, is the extensive library of training videos they have in their knowledge base and on YouTube. The guy talking in most of those videos is none other than Jay Moore – and Jay is perfect for the job. Trust me, he has the same cool, friendly, intelligent, professional demeanor when you meet him in person – and his Power Point Presentation during the workshop was top notch!

Jay Moore the voice of AWeber

AWeber Swag!

We all got a chance to pick up some AWeber Schwag (you'll see what I mean in the video) which always makes me happy. All of the attendees (about 15 of us) got the opportunity to have our specific questions answered at the end of the presentation. We chatted one-on-one with an AWeber staff member and I tried to listen in on as many of those chats as I could. I certainly had my questions answered, and I even learned how to set up instant access to an optin freebie using my AWeber “welcome to my list” email.

Here's what Jay covered in the workshop:

  • Initial list setup
  • Editing your confirmation message
  • Creating a welcome email
  • Writing and scheduling a broadcast
  • Importing subscribers
  • Building a sign up form and getting it on your site
In this video, I want to take things to the next level and tell you about an application you can install that integrates with AWeber called Rapportive. Rapportive works in your Gmail account and helps you discover more about your subscribers. Once you start building an email list or even if you have one already, it's really important build and maintain connections with your subscribers. You should nurture the relationships you have with your subscribers so you can begin to have a deeper understanding of who they are and how you can best serve them. In this video, I'll show you how Rapportive can help you do just that. You'll also get to see me step up to the podium at AWeber 🙂

AWeber Tour and Rapportive Application in Gmail

If you're using AWeber, be sure to check out the whole list of applications you can install to help take your email marketing promotions to the next level and keep your subscribers engaged with your content. They are adding new applications to the list all the time. Please let me know which AWeber applications you find most helpful. Go here if you're interested in getting the Optin Skin plugin for WordPress.

By the way, have you even started building an email list yet – what ARE you waiting for?

  1. Hi Samuel, I found out that AWeber has all kinds of goodies on the apps page that they added since I signed up. It’s great when services build on their features that way. Thanks for the comment.

    1. Well, as far as apps go, what do you think of the new editor. I read a post the other day of someone moaning about it. How do you find it? (I like it b.t.w)

I think you are SO lucky to live so close. I live close to Woothemes (2 hour flight), which also makes my country famous for something blogging. I have a goal to go visit them one day. I’m going to walk in and say : ‘Hey Adii, it’s Ivin, remember me? I’ve been a subscriber for almost three years now?’ Hehe, they’re going to be wierded out for sure.

  2. I have been using Aweber for years. They have always been good and they are available to help during regular business hours. I’ve had to get their help in the future and I have a project right now that needs help.

I know that when I’m ready they will be there for me.

    1. Hey David, guess what – now they have live chat on the weekends too. How cool is that!
I’m glad you started your list long ago, you must have a fair number of subscribers by now. Thanks for your comment David.

  3. Loved the info Ileane!

You look wonderful in the T-shirt 🙂

I have been hearing a lot about AWeber and have to check it out, because there was a confusion whether I should go with this one or MailChimp, though I do understand the latter is limited to the number of users I think. And as compared, AWeber has lots more to offer. Rapportive surely looks wonderful as you can find everything within your Gmail account. 🙂

Thanks for sharing and reminding me to give things a serious thought now. 🙂

    1. Hey Harleena, one of the AWeber team was cool enough to track down the biggest T-shirt in the building for me lol!! You can test out Rapportive as the chrome extension first to see how you like it. Keep me posted.

  4. How lucky you are Ileane! Wish I live near them too. I have been using Aweber since I started online marketing and so far, it did not come to mind to try the other services.

  5. Hello there thanks for sharing this great post, I have to admit I am not really familiar with Aweber but I keep on hearing this. and to be honest it is my first time to know that benefits of using this app.

  6. I moved from cybermailing to aweber 3 weeks ago. The delivrability seems better. Now i ll check all applications that i can use.

  7. Raaj Trambadia

Hey Ileane! You’re so lucky to live in America! Almost all the good things for blogging have an ‘American Base’ 🙂 But you know what? I’m coming there after like 2 years, to get into the aviation field, and probably do some blogging in the air! Haha 😀 But seriously! I’ll be in US for sure 🙂

Coming to this post, you’re lucky again because it is only available for Gmail because I’m using Outlook 🙂

But doesn’t matter, I’ll be looking forward to do fill up my list on Aweber.

    Thanks for this 🙂

  8. Hi Ileane. That’s really cool that you were able to attend the AWeber workshop. I used to live in Wilmington, DE wayback and had I been there still, I would have attended myself, as I too have a bunch of questions that I would like some answers to. Perhaps all of them can be answered, if I just took a bit more of time to browse through their tutorials 🙂 Anyway, you really look good with that T-Shirt.

    1. Hi DiTesco, I never knew you lived in this neck of the woods. I’m really getting into the finer points of email marketing and should be taking things to the next level after attending this workshop. 🙂

  9. Hi Ileane
Great to hear this. I am also looking forward to use Aweber in the near future. This will be great for email marketing.
Well I am happy to inform you that Itechcode is organizing 2nd Giveaway. I will be very much happy if you participate.
    Amit

    1. Hi Amit,
Don’t put it off any longer! Your blog is at the point of getting a good amount of traffic and I know it’s a little extra work but the time to start building your list is now 🙂

  10. No doubt, Aweber is the top notch email marketing software available to us. Quite informative and interesting video. Really enjoyed watching it.

  11. Wow! How cool is that, Ileane!

I can’t believe you got to meet the AWeber crew. It’s great to hear that they are so engaging and supportive. I have always had good support through the Net, as well.

I use Rapportive and love it! Thanks for spreading the word about it so that others can see how powerful it is. Love your video!

    Bob

  12. I have already availed the services of Aweber & I am really satisfied with their options too! They also makes the work more easier & compact too! Wonderful one!

  13. Nice to hear that Aweber’s headquarter is 15 minutes away from your home Ileane. Actually I haven’t started building an email list yet because I’m a student with low budget. I will start it as soon as possible. Thanks for the video Ileane.

  14. Hey Ileane,
I am yet to start my email marketing campaign. I know, I am probably doing a colossal mistake in putting it off.
I’ve heard the say “money is in the list” far too many times!

I enjoyed the video and it had a fairly personal touch to it.

  15. Loved it, Ilene. Like others, I have been considering adding AWeber, and appreciate the information. Do you know if they do workshops outside of their headquarters?

  16. Hey Ileane,

How cool was that actually attending one of their workshops live. I bet you had a great time and got to meet a lot of the people behind the scenes. I’m jealous! But you learned a lot and had some fun. That’s what’s important right.

I’ve been using Rapportive for awhile now. I believe it was Ilka who introduced me to this service and you’re right, it’s great for learning more about your subscriber. I like seeing where they’re from and what they are involved in. You can make instant connections with them right from your gmail account. Cool service.

Thanks for sharing this and I have no doubt your readers will really appreciate it.

    ~Adrienne

    1. Adrienne, yes it’s amazing what you can find out about someone from Rapportive. As I said in the video, my favorite is the Google+ connection. It so cool that I can add people to circles without leaving the page I’m on. Thanks for sharing this on Twitter and thanks for your comment as always 🙂

    1. JAY!! YOU DA MAN!! lol
I really enjoyed myself on Saturday and how nice of you to allow me to take your picture during the presentation.
I just finished updating all of my Follow Up emails based on the tips you gave me about using Notepad and how to fix the font problem I was having.
I’ll be back over there first chance I get!

    2. Hello Jay, Would love to watch your video presentation if you share it with us here. Do you have any video presentation online? I would love to watch it.

  17. Thanks for coming out on Saturday Ileane and for choosing AWeber! It’s great to read about your impressions of the event so we can continually make future events even better.

    1. Hi Tom, the AWeber staff is a really first class team. I’ll be sure to pass on any suggestions to Liz in PR. Hopefully, we can meet next time I’m at HQ. Thanks for coming by an leaving a comment.

  18. Hey Ileane, I didn’t realize you were in the outskirts of Philly, me too! I wish I’d heard about this, or I would’ve tried to make it.

Quick heads up about OptIn Skin (which I use as well). I was configuring mine a week ago and realized that the name/email placeholder descriptions in all OptinSkin fields do not show up in Internet Explorer. I sent them a support email, but they don’t have the inclination to fix it. Unfortunately for me, that’s about 40% of my traffic that doesn’t know what to put in each of those boxes.

Anyway, thought I’d give you a heads up so you were aware for your site. I tried fixing it myself, but my coding skills are not up to the job, so I’ll probably just hire somebody whenever I can find the time if I can’t get an answer on the web…..if I happen to fix before you do, I’d be happy to pass along the code.

    1. Geoff, I actually live in Philadelphia. I’m in Mount Airy but originally I’m from West Oak Lane.

Thanks for the heads up about the IE glitch with Optin Skin. I think I’ll update some of my skins to include “enter your name and email” so people won’t get confused. I don’t blame those guys for not spending too much time on that. These days everyone is concentrating on mobile! Since I don’t have a smart phone, how does the Optin box look on Android or iPhone? I hope it looks good 🙂

  19. Yes Integration in Gmai working But when I tried same details to my ipad then its creating Problems. MAy I know why this happening?

    1. John, Seems like none of the Gmail extensions work on Apple products. Wisestamp doesn’t work on a Mac either…

  20. Ileane,

I used to use AWeber and they were really good. It wasn’t until I started learning how to create custom opt-in forms that I switched to a cheaper service, so now I am with icontact. They seem to work just as well and the nice thing is that I can keep my expenses to a minimum.

    Adam

  21. Hey Ileane,

So glad to know that you got the chance to meet the aweber crew. I’ve been using them for a while now and never had any issues.

Rapportive is one of the fantastic tools for gmail that I’ve used in a while.

    1. Hey Devesh! I never paid attention to Rapportive until I heard Pat Flynn talking about it. I was really pleased to find out that AWeber had the app too. Thanks for the comment Devesh, great to see you here.

    1. Haha!! The moment I walked in the room I started plotting on who I was going to ask to take my picture up there at that podium. That was too funny. Thank you for stopping by Tom. I hope to give a presentation there for real some day. 🙂

  22. Ms. Ileane you are so lucky they you live in america where you can acess all the things. I will soon join Aweber and create email list for my blog. This is some kind of expereince for me.

    1. Hi Waqas, let me know if you need any help getting started with AWeber. I’ll be happy to share some of what I learned from Jay with you.

    1. Hi Marcie, that’s right. I almost forgot about Blogging while Brown. I hope you had a great time there. Keep me posted.

  23. Hi Ileane,
I first have to say that you look lovely in that T shirt! How great it must have been in the middle of that learning experience. I thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. But you always do he he.
I have been using Get Response for a long time and have “heard” that when one switches to another company, we could loose our information. I know most of my friends use Aweber and am jealous 🙁
After reading this I would like to join. Hey, there is many ways to skin a cat! Maybe I won’t loose my info!
    Donna

    1. Hey Donna, glad you like me in that T-shirt. I took about 20 pics until I got myself lined up on camera the way I wanted. lol
I’d love to hear how things go if you do move over to AWeber. The bottom line is that you are building your list and that’s what’s really important.

  24. Hi Ileane,

Really great that connection with Aweber. I had no idea you could do that. I have been with Aweber for over 3 years now, but still room for learning.

    Thanks for the great information.

    1. Sylviane, you really must give Rapportive a try. I think it’s something we should all be using if we have Gmail, especially those of us who are active on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

  25. Hi Ileane!

I am using aweber on all of my websites and huge fan of aweber too and I think they guys doing really well and organizing it really awesome and in this video I learnt quite new things.

Thanks for sharing great tips 🙂

  26. I’ve been using Mailchimp for a long time but I’ve been recently getting the bug to switch and I’ve heard a lot of good things about Aweber. Plus it seems like everyone uses it (anyone who has a “real” email list, anyway) so I kind of want to jump on the bandwagon! At this point the only reason I haven’t switched is because the thought of setting everything up again, getting the list in there, getting the templates done – gives me a bit of a headache. So it’s awesome to know they have so many good training videos. Thanks for sharing your insights on this.

It’s also very cool that you got to do a workshop at headquarters. I’m not that far from Philly so maybe one of these days I’ll check them out in real life 🙂

    1. Hi Carol Lynn, Are you using Rapportive and Gmail? I think it works the same way for MailChimp customers as what I showed in the video. Maybe one day, we’ll meet up at an AWeber hosted event. That would be cool.

  27. I recently just starting using aweber – the most valuable feature that ive found is the form split testing. One simple test uped my opt-in rate 3x.
I would recommend doing 2-3 split tests simotaneously. Sometime changing a color can double or triple your optins. Psychology is a mysterious thing.

    Thanks again!

    Nathan J

    1. Hi Nathan, thanks for the tips about split testing. I really need to give that a try and when I do, I’ll be sure to let you know how I make out.

  28. Hi Ileane,

Nice swag! I love going to those types of events. I drove through Wilmington, DE more times than I recall on trips to AC from VA Beach. I never realized AWeber is located there. I know quite a few corporations go there for regulatory reasons.

Anyways, I never tried AWeber before. My clients all use different email senders and I never fully endorsed one over another. Can you shed some light on how AWeber is different than all the others? I appreciate any of your insights on this.

    Cheers

    1. Brent, AWeber is the only email service I’ve used so I can’t really tell you how it differs from the others. I started out with them and I’m pleased with the service so I’m sticking with it. Thanks for the comment.

  29. Hi Brankica, I guess I just got lucky. I love getting swag. You should see some of the “junk” I have collected over the years of going to trade shows and conferences. I have a huge box of mugs that I never use. I need to give them away at some point. LOL

  30. Nice swag! I love going to those types of events. I drove through Wilmington, DE more times than I recall on trips to AC from VA Beach. I never realized AWeber is located there. I know quite a few corporations go there for regulatory reasons.

  31. Yep Ileane, AWeber services are great. They take very good care of customers and I’m so happy using their service. Your video is really helpful and I was really think that you were presenting on AWeber 🙂 but it wasn’t.

Thank you for sharing – Ferb

  32. It does seems good!
My customer support team can learn alot about those sending us email without having to research their history.

  33. Aweber is a great online mailer and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with their service and their support staff as well. It’s worth the $19 a month that I spend, great video by the way!
