Best SEO tools to boost organic traffic and keyword rankings

#1. SEMrush

Do you want to spy on your competitors? Whether you know it or not, finding the top performing keywords of your competitors is the simplest way to get ahead in SEO race.

Although you don’t have to simply find and use their keywords on your blogs to drive more traffic but you can analyze the keywords they are using to generate more traffic to your blogs as well.

Three main reasons everyone who wants to increase their website traffic should consider using this SEO tool.

  1. Analyzing your competition: Finding your main rivals keywords, backlinks, website top pages is the easiest way to get to know better about your competitor’s audience. If you know them well, you can easily outrank your competitors. SEMrush is the only tool that allows you spy on your competition in so many ways including backlink analysis, PPC ads usage, referring pages information etc.
  2. Finding great keywords: So what’s the best way to increase traffic to a website? Finding and using profitable keywords. Thanks to SEMrush, finding keywords was never easy before. It not only shows you the best performing keyword phrases in your niche but it also gives you great relevant keywords that match with your primary keyword.
  3. Backlink analysis: If you are blogging for a while, you already know how important it is to build backlinks. Backlinks are considered as votes by search engine crawlers, the more links you have the greater results you will get on search results.

#2. Yoast SEO

One of the widely used plugins on WordPress is Yoast SEO. It is the complete SEO plugin that allows you to easily optimize your blog posts and web pages for search engines.

Even if you are new to SEO, you will find it extremely easy to optimize your pages for search engines using this plugin. The plugin functionality is that simple!

Most professional bloggers suggest newbies not to worry about SEO. But I think that’s a wrong statement. If you are not getting results for what you are working for, you will burn out soon and quit blogging sooner or later.

If you start focusing on SEO from day one and learn the necessary SEO skills to take your blog to the next level, you will definitely get the traffic you deserve. For that, you need to have access to the right tools and Yoast SEO is the best choice when you are optimizing posts for search engines.

This plugin not only tells you the keyword density but it also allows you to enter your primary keyword on every page so you can better optimize them for search engines without looking like a spammer.

#3. Long Tail Pro

Keyword research is the primary factor that makes or breaks a blog's search traffic. If you want to boost your organic traffic, you should spend time on finding the right keywords that will get you more visitors.

Without finding and using the high performing keywords, your blog goes nowhere.

The most common mistake I see others (especially the beginners) doing is, they directly hunt for the most hungry keywords. In other words, most beginners find the high traffic keywords.

What happens when you do that?

If we consider that you have a new blog, trying to rank for the most competitive keywords on Google won't get you any results. Search engines don't trust new blogs, so they don't give much value to your blog posts.

You have to have good domain authority, lots of backlinks and good amount of social shares to get top results for a competitive keyword.

That’s the reason why you should NEVER focus on finding the short tail keywords or highly competitive keywords. So what should you do? You should spend your time on finding long tail keywords. What are long tail keywords? Long tail keywords contain more than 2 to 3 keyword phrases.

For instance, “SEO” is a short tail and highly competitive keyword whereas “seo tips for bloggers” is a long tail keyword.

It’s easier to increase your blog traffic from search engines if you focus on finding and using long tail keywords in your content creation strategy. Unfortunately there are not much resources for bloggers to find the long tail keywords.

Here’s where Long Tail Pro comes into play. It’s one of the finest SEO tools that helps you easily come up with a huge list of long tail keywords for any industry.

Here are few amazing features of this plugin.

  • Check Rankings of sites in Google, Yahoo, and Bing
  • Pre-filter keywords
  • Automatically find Domains
  • Google or Bing Title Competition
  • Search Multiple Keywords at Once
  • Generate up to 800 results per seed keyword
  • Competitor Analysis on top 10 Google Results

This awesome outreach tool eliminates the time-sucking parts of link building so you can focus on what matters i.e building healthy relationships with other bloggers and attracting more backlinks to your sites.

Here are few other “free SEO tools” that you must use

Google Analytics: If you have a blog, you should definitely sign up for a Google Analytics account. It helps you analyze who is visiting your blog and allows you to easily find out the best performing pages on your blogs including the bounce rate and exit rate details.

Google Search Console: If you want to find and fix problems on your website, this is the first thing you should be looking at. It not only shows you crawl errors and 404 pages but also allows you to quickly index your pages with manual indexing feature. Watch this video to be sure you have Google Analytics connected to the Console.

Google’s Keyword Planner: If you are new to keyword research, you should definitely check out Keyword Planner, a free tool developed by Google. It gives you a list of all the related keywords for any search term you enter along with the details of competition so you can easily know what to ignore when finding the right keywords.

Final thoughts about the SEO tools to increase website search traffic and keyword rankings

There are a lot more SEO tools I missed in this post including Moz tools, HitTail, Market Samurai etc. My intention with this post is to give a better idea on few of the best SEO tools that actually work even for SEO beginners.

Majority of the SEO tools are only meant for SEO experts who already know what they are doing. For rest of us, the above SEO tools are the best solution to increase both website traffic and keyword rankings.

Most of the above tools allow you to try for free, so make use of it, grab your hands on them and buy only if you notice any good results. You may ask, why should I invest money on buying tools when I get most things for free.

My answer is, free tools usage is limited, they don’t offer extensive details on anything and they don’t come with customer support help. So the investment you make on buying new SEO tools never goes in vain unless you don’t use them at all.

So what are your thoughts on the SEO tools mentioned in this post? Did I miss any of your favorite SEO tools? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

I was using google adword to search keywords for each article and it was pretty good for free use, with the tools they find too expensive premium when unknown effect that it brings, thanks you have to share these tools

    1. Google AdWords is good but not the best. The reason? Everyone else is using the same, so the competition will be generally high even if you find <400 monthly searches keywords.

      I recommend LongTailPro 🙂

I’ve been using various on-page optimization tips to improve my organic traffic and now am fine with the traffic by search engines of almost my 80% of visits come from major search engines.

I think although the length of the post is an important factor of Google ranking, but it should not be always the fact. sometimes I search Google for keywords like for example “drop shipping” or any other keywords and find posts with fewer words count at the top. and sometimes I find posts with higher words count at the top. so it is vary. and I think there are many other ranking factors other than words count. this is what I want to comment about.

    1. Hi Siddharth,

If you’re doing onpage SEO right, it can make you step way ahead of 90% of your competition.

And coming to the length factor of content, it depends on the niche. If you are trying to rank higher for marketing niche, you have to produce high quality stuff whereas for baby product websites, you don’t have to write 2000 monster articles.

      Hope you got my point.

  4. Hi Anil,

To be honest, you’ve mentioned some top of the grade tools in your post.

Any Blogger/Marketer can’t go wrong with any of these tools.

I’m using 2 tools different from the ones you mentioned in your post, but they are still awesome.

Blogger Outreach Tool – I use Ninja Outreach

Keyword Tool – I use Niche Genetics.

    Thanks for sharing this post.

    Cheers

    Dan

  5. Hi Anil,

It is good to know that you have recommended quite influential seo tools. I am already using SEMRUSH, and it is proved to be the best for me. It is good to know about buzzstream and will try it soon.

    1. Hi Gaurav,

SEMrush is undoubtedly the #1 tool when it comes to SEO. I’ve been using it for a long time and I’m a fan of the tool.

It not only helps to fix your site issues but also helps you crush your competitors.

  6. Anil, One hell of an article.Yes, you mentioned only a few tools. But, they all are well known in the blogging industry.
Semrush & Longtail Pro are the must for tools for bloggers. If any of the bloggers got these two then he/she can do rest all of the things themselves.
But if one doesn’t know how to use them then nobody can do something.
So overall I enjoyed this post as it was up to the mark.Keep the great work up.

Truly an informative article Anil! After going through the details of all the tools, I feel that Long Tail Pro is the right tool for my website SEO strategy. I believe it performs what the latest Google update suggests for SEO. However, the amount of dollars charged for it seems too high for me. Can you let me know the monthly charge of using the tool?

  8. Hi Anil,

Thank you for sharing these tools. I’m using the free tools you mentioned such as Yoast SEO and Google Analytics. I’m trying to keep expenses down but if I had to choose from the list of tools you shared here, I would invest in SEMRush.

  9. Christian Krauß Texter

Thanks for the good post. Until recently I just relied on the free tools like Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools and the Keyword Planner. The things you can learn there are already good. But to dig deeper into the topic of SEO I just started testing SEOrush and I must say it’s something completely different. You get more concrete data about your site and your competitor’s. That makes things far more easy. I guess I’m going to buy the paid version.

  10. Hi there, I am using yoast right from the beggining of my blogger journey and must say that one of the best things on it, is that it’s get regulary updated with latest content and SEO trends.

Once in ther past, it measured red flag if your article didn’t include keyword.

Nowadays, when keyword stuffing is wrong SEO approach, also Yoast doesn’t get you red flag.
    Highly recommended. Matija

    1. Hi,

Yoast is one of the best free SEO plugins available. It’s a gift for WordPress users. Not only it helps beginners to easily optimize their posts but also FREE.

  11. Hi Anil,

It is a great post for the bloggers to perform SEO in a perfect manner. I would like to get organic traffic than social and referral program.

I’m currently using SEO by Yoast, LTP and Google Analytics for my blog. LTP is awesome in finding the Long tail keywords .

    Thanks for this informative article.

  12. Chetan Gupta

    Hey Anil

Thanks for sharing such a great list of seo tools which every blogger should use.

There are so many SEO tools available on the internet But there are very few which I like most and I love to use them like:

    1. Google Keyword Planner

I always love to use this free keyword research tool because I believe that when It comes to find monthly search volume of any keyword then Google keyword planner is the best place to get correct data.

    2. Google Analytics

Google analytics is the another tool which people even me love to use. I don’t think that there could be any other tool which can give more accurate traffic statistics than Google analytics. Right? 😀

    3. Open Link Profiler, SEOProfiler and Ahrefs

I use these 3 tools to check backlinks of any site. However, Ahrefs isn’t free But It is more updated than any other out there. BUt Open Link Profiler and SEOProfiler both are the same and FREE backlink checker tool.

You wouldn’t find any best backlinks checker than these 2 tools.

    4. SERPS.com Rank Checker Tool

When It comes to find keyword ranking in Google then I never found any tool which is more accurate than this tool.

SERPs rank checker is very much accurate and you can check ranking of your site in any country. Most of the keyword rank checker tools just allow to check ranking in a single country But here You can check ranking in every country you want.

These SEO tools are my favorite tools and I always love to use them and also want to recommend them to others If anyone id find these tools.

Although, this is really a great article and I’ll try these tools too.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

    Happy Blogging 😉

    1. Hi Chetan,

Keyword Planner is great in the beginning but gives you the same list of keywords that everyone else is using. So even if you find less competitive keyword, you still have to struggle a lot to increase your traffic.

The tools I mentioned in the post are incredible and help you easily boost your traffic.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

      1. Hi Anil
Semrush is an awesome tools. Bloggers should take maximum benefit out of it.
        Thanks for the post.

  13. Bo A Kauffmann

Great tips. I recently stumbled across another tool called Squirrly SEO, which I’m actually now using. They send you weekly audits of your site and give you tips on how to improve it, bitt by bit.

  14. Hi Anil,

No doubt useful list of top notch SEO tools.

Keyword is certainly the basic starting line of effective SEO strategy, this is why I like that most SEO tools you mentioned in this post have that feature in their functions, except for Buzzstream.

I haven’t tried SEMrush before, but have read a lot about it. Will see to that soon.

    Thanks for sharing, Anil.

  15. Hi Anil ,
