Over the years I have developed my own website traffic tips that have sent real fireworks through my websites. My tips are never any big secret though and are usually very easy to implement.
You could say that my whole life revolves around website traffic because I have been generating it since 2005. When I look back, generating traffic for my quality content is all I have been doing to create successful websites. In the picture to the left it says “get website traffic fast”. I am not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that!
Here are a few website traffic tips that even your grandma can follow. I have used all of these to generate the traffic showing in that screenshot.
#1. Time to Generate Traffic
Generating traffic requires a huge amount of effort and time. It has taken me years to get to 10,000 visits a day on one website. This is what you will need to spend your time on to reach your traffic goal.
- Time to learn how to create great content to attract traffic.
- Time to learn SEO to get high rankings and get traffic.
- Time to promote your content to get traffic.
- Time to maintain your site and keep traffic.
- Time to finally outsource your website traffic generation.
People are shocked at the work I have done with my websites, but let me tell you, earning a full time living from blogging is a dream job. When I look at my stats in Google Analytics, I can honestly say that it has all been worth it for me. I could never go back to working with time constraints, like having to be somewhere at a certain time. Taking the time to increase website traffic over the years, actually gave me the gift of time back completely.
#2. Content That Rocks
Good content makes a huge difference in this process because it is linked to many other things which can work in your favor. If the content is well written, reliable and informative, there is a high chance that it will be shared on different social networking websites which will help increase your website’s popularity. Providing good content in a way guarantees that a person will visit your website again because the information he found here the first time was good enough for him/her to return. Keep things interesting by providing content in different formats like videos, podcasts and slide show presentations. This will also help you acquire more backlinks from authority sites.
I would also like to mention SEO within your good content, as SEO on its own is useless.
#3. No Brainer Website Traffic Tip
Content also includes the way you organize your website, because if your content is good but the website lacks organizational skills, then it won’t be able to generate much traffic as it won’t be easily readable or understandable. One example of this can be using Flash player on your website, which generally slows it down for those who use it, which is why you should check for ways in which you can change your methods to those which produce fast and effective results.
#4. Social Hookups
Make sure that your website has either a YouTube channel or a Facebook or Twitter page as these things will definitely work in your favor. Social networking websites contribute a great deal in getting more traffic on a page, especially if those pages are popular on Facebook or Twitter, or if the videos they make on YouTube are widely viewed. I am a huge fan of getting website traffic from Youtube, but that is just one of the sites on my Social Media Checklist.
#5. Blog Ads Two Ways
We are trying to keep targeted website traffic not scare it away! Banners, advertisements, pop-ups are all okay if they exist in a small quantity. Nobody likes to visit a website which gives birth to many pop-ups or has its entire content covered with advertisements. Even if your information is readable, placing a lot of advertisements all over your page might not be great idea as it makes it difficult to focus and it definitely does not appeal to the eye. People might avoid visiting a website again if it is completely covered with banners.
But flip this topic from ads on your site to ads on some other webmasters site. Yes, why not buy some banner space on another well known blog. For example, Hesham over at Famousbloggers.net sells banners that are extremely well priced, considering how popular his blog is. If you placed an attractive add on that site you would definitely bring traffic to your website.
#6. Free Opportunities
Besides using social networking sites to help make your page more popular, another thing that you can do to bring in more traffic is use free advertising wherever it’s available to your advantage. Chances are it might not yield great results, but some sort of improvement can be expected and once again there is absolutely no harm in trying.
Also creating a free blog on Blogger or Tumblr and posting updates there can generate free website traffic.

#7. Best Traffic Tip
Lastly, what you need to keep in mind is that generating traffic to your website is a long process and requires you to be patient because this is something that cannot be done overnight.
Of course there are the lucky few that can create amazing content that goes viral instantly. But if you are still learning how to create great content, be patient because with experience, you will learn and eventually get more website traffic.
Hey Mitz, Thanks for sharing this great traffic tips. Well summarized and informative. Getting traffic requires patience and some time dedications. I agree with you that traffic starts with content; The better the content the more chances that it can go far. My second option is to focus much on Social Hook-ups. There is huge traffic from social media, all it needs time and building a relationship. Thanks a lot for the share.
Cheers.
Hi Gilbert
Yes relationships with other bloggers who are big on social is a great way to kick start your hook ups.
Both google plus, facebook and twitter give me great traffic…the problem is I would like to choose one to use but cannot…!! 🙂
Nice post Hamza and post title rocks 😀 . I think now blogger should also concentrate on Pinterest as its not like old time when you add a Alt Tag to image and it became SEO safe but now you are having a great opportunity to get traffic from Pinterest just because of Blog Post Image .
Hi Narendra,
I agreed with you that the post title is catchy that anyone would stop and read the article at least once.
It’s absolutely true Gilbert. We run a service that helps bloggers double their traffic with minimal work, and despite that we ironically needed a lot of patience and persistence in getting our sign ups. Building traffic is no easy job.
Hey Mitz, that’s great post. However, I am also in the field of blogging from last several years, and there are only few methods that help me gradually in gaining lots of traffic to my blog.
1. Remarkable Content
2. Right Time Approach
3. Community Spotlight
4. Content Filled With Emotions
Wow great tips there Hamza
I guess I have emotional content…but I never really think about timing except I avoid posting on weekends as it is slower traffic.. 🙂
Great post, and I agree with you completely when you say that traffic requires patience.
You can’t expect it all to work in matter of seconds.
thanks for adding video too 🙂
Yes but I think all newbies expect it quicker.. 🙂
Sound advice, although I have to say the blogs that get the most traffic are blogs that tell you how to get traffic. It seems to be a niche that knows no limits on when it stops being a “niche.” I’m often reminded of the California gold rush of ’49. Very few people made any money doing it, but the people who sold the mining equipment made a fortune. If I was to start all over I would make a blog about blogging tips. It’s seems the only viable niche to succeed in as someone starting from scratch, unless you have stars in your eyes and think you are going to be the next Perez Hilton.
I would have to disagree here as I have many websites in different niches… Blogging about blogs is not the only way to get traffic… In fact that traffic is far more wary about buying from or clicking on ads.
Hi Mitz,
That’s really a great post and i am looking for these kind of post because i am a new blogger. I am try to follow this steps for my future blogging
At last thanks for a great post…..
I agree with all your points Mitz. Content itself doesn’t brings us traffic. Other factors like social votes will have huge influence on a website. Thanks for these tips.
Hi Radha
yes I agree. The whole thing is a package deal… Traffic is no good anyway if you have crappy content.. and great content can be hidden if there is no traffic. 🙂
Great post! I totally agree – there really is no point to lots of traffic without great content to read/look at once people get there. We’ve worked hard (three years) to get our level of traffic, but more importantly, we’ve worked harder to keep those that come to our site and covert those to readers.
Honestly, the points you mentioned were very helpful, the fact remains that we all need Networks and social media, i think it won’t only bring traffic but also connect you with those who do the same thing you do.
Hey Mitz…
I really liked the way you presented the fundamentals.
One of the things that I use to drive high quality leads/traffic to my sites is to engage in conversations where my target audience is already present like forums, chat rooms and blogs.
This strategy has proved to be working big time for me.
Cheers,
Karan.
Very true. I like this way too. I like it even better when someone else mentions your site as a resource or answer to a problem. I have had great traffic that way. 🙂
Hey mitz,
Well i believe the proper SEO optimization is the simple method for simple traffic generation. Although we can also use social networks to generate referral traffic in a short time.
Thanks for the helpful tips.
Yes I believe this is true also. Social media can give traffic in a short time, especially if you already have connections. 🙂
hello mitz
everyone wants to grab traffic, traffic and traffic. so these were some really cool and nice tips but the best tip is to provide quality content which is i think a tough task to maintain. thanks for the post
I totally agree that supplying top content is not easy, but if you love what you do it is never a choir. 🙂
If you deliver regular quality content, people will come back to you no matter whether you do SEO or not. But it’s always great to have sound SEO for your website 🙂
Content, content, content! If your content is good enough, and you’re using the correct channels to market your content, you should be fairly successful. ‘Good content’ however is a generic term, and includes a large number of elements. Another problem is that there are probably a lot of other blogs in your niche, which are also producing good content, what then can you do to get a large chunk of the traffic?
I like to see why they are ranking and do better.. I find that long posts are amazing and kick the competition out of the water. Just provide the best resource and thats it. 🙂
Generating traffic is like growing a tree from a seed – You need to concentrate and work on EVERY level. And once you reach up there, you can enjoy the sweet fruits!
Yes thats sound good… but I am not good at growing trees.. LOL 🙂
Traffic is the hardest thing to get, but if you have patience, great content which you are constantly promoting and passion for what you are doing you will be successful. Thanks for your great tips Mitz! I love your articles – they are very informative and I learn something new every time I read them!
Great tips …
Agree with all the points in “time to generate traffic” and you’re right that earning a living out of blogging is truly a dream job.
Number 2 for me is the most essential. It’s really the content that drives the traffic naturally. You can get traffic from different sources but content will make people want to go back to yout site.
Great Content, That matters alot
Guest Posting:It simply rocks
I have been so lazy about guest posting soon i’m gonna have to take it serious.
What has really helped me is Great content along with Commentluv: A very great combo i think you all should use.
Yes guest posting rocks!! Look at me…I do it 4-5 times a week! 🙂
If you have a website and get no traffic or very little of it, then you should be doing something about it. Just sitting and hoping that your site will be discovered and you will start getting traffic is not going to help you.
Hi Miltz, Great post, Traffic does not generate from Day1 it requires lot of efforts, social media is the best media to get good number of visitors. Blog directories helps lot to find the right visitors.
Thanks for those great tips. What I personally feel is, social networking and forum posting could bring a lot of traffic to your website. But for my blog organic searches have been the biggest source of traffic. I am trying level best to build better relations with bloggers and webmasters.
all of your points are really graceful, I am definitely gonna follow them. You experience will not let us to spend that much time to reach at this stage. thanks for sharing it ma,am 🙂 🙂
Hi,
Having read you article i clearly understand your basic concept. Its so real and practical. It talks no dreams but the grounded ways to meet your targets of gaining traffic. The 2 tips that i found very rational were firstly, organizing your content also comes under producing fab contents. Definitely it does. Designs and organized layout increases ease. That you need to in-cash. And second, limiting and controlling the number of advertisements, videos, pictures. Your website should not look messy. Thanks for share. It was great help. 🙂
Yes I am very basic with my traffic ideas as they are just the same as they have always been. People promise fast traffic all the time. I like to build a real traffic base, one that lasts day after day. 🙂
Hi MItz, great post. The traffic tip i like the most is the one on quality content (i.e content that rocks) you can not go wrong with quality content.
I agree with you, content is King. With the attractive content, all we have to do is being patient!
Over the years I have come to the same answer as you, if we want to make a living on the long term from online activities, there is only one way: to provide quality contents. There are no shortcuts, otherwise we won’t be able to create an authority site that will survive on the long term.
I agree with you, with the long term, we should focus on content and on-page SEO
Hi Mitz, I read your post and I had a visit on your website. Very nice job with quality! Building a successful blog is not easy. You have to work hard and produce results. Glad to meeting you. Have a great day.
John Mak
Web Publisher – Author
Thanks John for visiting! yes producing good quality is hard work.. but well worth it.
Hey, thanks for this list. No magic bullet, but that’s reassuring in a way because that means what we’re doing will get us there eventually! One thing I think, though, which Hamza had mentioned in an earlier comment was around the community – we’ve had good success reaching out to other bloggers and also inviting people to guest post with us. Point 6 is an interesting one, that I often forgot. You find yourself with a hatful of URLs that you just thought ‘maybe I’ll use one day’ – there’s no reason why they can’t be helping in the meantime, right?!
If you use WordPress SEO by Yoast – a on page SEO plugin – you are able to forget the url! Course this plugin will help you to make the url is relevant to post title!
Hi Mitz,
Nice theoretical points one can reach if he shows full efforts and patience on his field.Once should get engaged with others so its helps him to build community too you have covered the most of the points which every one should re-collect.
well gone are the days of quick free traffic, now one need to put some time and follow ethical practices to optimize a site. It is time consuming, if someone has got a product and looking for instant traffic, then paid traffic could be an option. But paid traffic is also not for everyone, unless until campaigns are well optimized for laser targeted visitors, chances are, individual may end up hurting self severely. thanks for sharing these tips.
Yeah, instantly traffic is paid traffic, but with the long term, you need free traffic!
Hey Mitz,
Google is such a great place to get traffic.
I have build high quality links to my site and over time, the traffic is building up.
It is continuing to grow as I build more quality links, and keep adding wonderful posts.
Just thought to share my traffic tip 🙂
Hi Mitz,
Even Grandma – Lol. Great post and great name for the post. Enjoyed reading through it even though none of these tips are new to me, Yet the value still exists in all of them. Great post, thanks for sharing.
Getting traffic is not so hard when you’ve quality content, connections and readership. It ALL depends on how effectively manage your time to connect with others.
I think connections play a vital role to drive traffic. Also be everywhere to get to know others 🙂
Nice post Mitz.
Hello -Mitz, another great post again. i agree with all the tips you have shared above in this post. i think social network website is the great way to gain much traffic. thank you for sharing these tips.
hey mitz – Good Article. Im always learning with this posts from basicblogtips. Even when I think I know most of things, I always learn a little detail that I didn’t notice. thank you for sharing this
Pretty good tips. The best way I have found to generate traffic when it starts to slack is just to create more articles per day. That usually will give you a spike in traffic and adds content to your site!
I get this a lot. Almost every other blogger swears by the need to make quality content. Some even display missives on the royalty that compelling content has become.
At the end of the day, it’s still about adding value to the web. If we can answer a searcher’s question, fill a need or make someone’s day better – then surely success won’t be slow to follow.
Otherwise, what’s the point?
It’s all about great content. Traffic happens when you content is worth reading. That is #1, #2 and #3 on the list… At least.
Great content… No way to get around it.
Hanley
Awesome tips, Mitz! Never really crossed my mind about using a free blog to promote my own blog posts. I’m thinking of using Tumblr for this. Would this be a good option?
Love this content, its more of an eye opener, I personally don’t joke with social media, I am trying to learn the power of Pinterest nowadays.
Thanks for this post. I am not getting much traffinc on my blog so I need to change something. Your post helped me a lot.
are the grandmas reading this post!!! super awesome tips 🙂 for newbie bloggers likes us!!! How about putting in some contests to get traffic, perhaps freebies and small gifts can make a whole lot of difference:)
Regards,
Rohan Advani
Wow, such a comprehensive post! Thanks for this Mitz! I learned a lot and I will be implementing them all in my blog but I’ll take them one by one as I don’t want to be too tired by doing it all together. Patience is the key. =)
Thanks for the great article. I also believe that Patience is the most important thing.
Hi Mitz, you have so many great tips about generating traffic and I love them. Great content is really needed to get more traffic and another point I’d like to talk about is maintaining traffic, I find so hard to maintain my traffic and I think the best way to maintain my blog traffic is maybe to post content consistently.
Thank you for sharing – Ferb
I have never been able to make social media work well for me, I have over 1,000 active fans and friends on Facebook and I have over 16,500 followers on Twitter and I’m lucky if I get one of two people visiting from those two sites.
Although I did very well with Twitter last month as a couple of big blogs linked some of my articles on their twitter accounts, but I can’t rely on this happening often. 🙂
Hi Mitz,
Thanks for sharing these tips, I’ve just started my blog about a month ago and my traffic is slowly but steadily growing.
Do you have any specific advice for building backlinks, for a fresh blog?
~Philip
“Blog Ads Two” ways looks like a new point for me, as other things appears as same aspects the most of the webmasters suggest. All these elements needs extra effort to be put by straining up and letting sweat come-out in order to enhance and improve the traffic.
Great Writeup 🙂
Hey Mitz,
I’m impressed with your writing.
The last tip is golden one, Being patient is the most important factor in blogging. Many blogger (especially newbies) need fast results. That’s really horrible (and impossible too).
I hope they would get inspiration from here. 😉
Hi Mitz!
It was great help
To me social connections and building an audiance online has been one of the most important pieces of my marketing strategy.
The most important thing you said in this post is to “be patient”. The only way you can get a million visitors to your website is if you pay for them.
If you want free traffic, it takes hard work, and consistent effort. Consistency is key.
And of course, creating content that rocks is just as important. I’ve seen some people that try to get tons of traffic to their website, and then when people get their, they immediately leave because their website sucks! However, when you provide great content, great userability, and easy navigation, the traffic that comes in to your website can literally double and triple, since people will be visiting more pages on your blog.
Nice tips, thanks for the helpful post!
Thank for posting this valuable blog. It’s true that traffic starts with content but it must be unique and informative. Share more better content among the network, the more attention that you bring to your blog. I follow continue update for getting traffic more. Can you advice me any secret idea for more traffic?
Hi Mitz, Nice traffic tips! Content is king, I have heard this phrase a lot, however I have seen that even good and unique content is not ranking well in Google. Also, few low quality posts from high authority sites are ranking high in Google. But I agree with other point that social networking sites such as Facebook, twitter and SU are good source of traffic for quality content.
Traffic is really important. Awesome article! In the web world, each and every online based business needs traffic for its promotion. Even if you have the best product, the best website and everything else you need to make it the best business out there BUT if the webpage lacks traffic, the business will not do so well. Thus, sending traffic to your website is necessary for a business to carry on effectively and profitably.
True, good content is of prime importance. And, it is linked to a plethora of things which can be taken advantage of. My grand mama sure likes this the most! 🙂
Hi, I find this post’s message to be simple and yet it provides solid advice. Great Job.
Hi Mitz,
What do you think about Website traffic spy for pulling website statistics or analytics? Seem to work well for most blogs also and how it ties into your article. Would like to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
I highly agree with tumblr. On my new blog, I’m still working on ranking up on the SERPS so search engine traffic isn’t currently my main source. However it’s tumblr. The use of clickthrough images is really helpful and if you redirect them to the homepage, bounce rates are usually low.
Hello Mitz..
Nice tips for getting traffic.Be patience is the most important thing for newbies like me.In am not getting much traffic in my blog now,but I simply applying your tips now.And I hope I will start getting a good amount of traffic in my blog.thanks for these nice tips.
Hey Milica
You are absolutely right.
It takes too many time , passion and hard work to manage a website. It is true that a website can take years of time in generating lots of traffic a day. I want to share my experience with you that I am a new blogger and start blogging before five months ago and i don’t know anything about blogging. so to manage my blog, first i learn from different blogs on how to generate traffic, how to manage website etc etc as you are mentioning in tip #1. Its my dream to make my blog success full.
