8 Tips For Taking Your Blog From Zero To Hero In 2012-13

Taking your blog from zero to hero requires hard work and lots of knowledge about your niche. A new born baby needs a lot of time and energy to grow, same happens in Blogging. A new blog also needs time, a lot of hard work and energy to be able to grow.

It's important for bloggers to remain focused and consistent with their blogging efforts. Many people don't have the endurance it takes to maintain a thriving blog which can lead to lots of trouble along the way. I know you heard this many times before, you can't expect your blog to take off overnight. At first, you have to work on your blog at least 4 to 6 hours a day and every day of the week.

taking your blog from zero to heroTips For Taking Your Blog From Zero To Hero

Here I'm going to share some quick tips which you can follow for taking your blog from zero to hero in less than no time at all.

1. Fulfill your audience's requirements

If you want your blog readers to come back after one visit than you must provide them useful content and try to solve their problem with your content because visitors are like monkeys and your blog is like a tree. If they will not get food at your tree then to get their requirements fulfilled, they will climb to another tree.

If you want them to keep swinging on your tree then you should keep providing them food. By food, I mean unique and quality content and this will surely help you in taking your blog from zero to hero.

2. Sleep With Them

For taking your blog from zero to hero you need to gain trust of the people and to gain their trust you need to sleep with them. I don't mean you should go to bed with them.

What I mean here is that you need to know your audience, you have to find out the needs of your audience and as I said above that fulfill their requirements. If you don't know what are the troubles your readers face than you don't really know them at all. The best way for taking your blog from zero to hero is to gain the trust of your readers.

3. Learn from your mistakes

Mistakes make you smarter, faster and relevant. Blogging has a lot of error stages and as a newbie Blogger you will make a lot of mistakes, but you have to learn from your mistakes and try to avoid them in next time instead of making a same mistake again and again.

When it comes to nominate the persons who makes millions of mistakes, I will put my name first because I know everyone makes mistakes, but the difference is the ability to learn from those mistakes.

The most valuable thing which you can make is mistake, You can't learn anything from being perfect!

4. Communicate With Your Audience

A blog is basically a means by which we can communicate with our readers, so this one is no big surprise. A successful blogger wants to connect with the audience by fulfilling their requirements, helping them in all possible ways, replying to comments (That is most important that is why it's critical to respond to each comment on our blog) and by serving their needs. Communicating is not only good for bloggers, but also for our readers and it helps to strengthen our relationships.

5. Run blogger Interviews

Interviewing other bloggers in your niche is smart way to increase the engagement and build relationship with your readers as well as with that blogger. Blogger interviews is a great way of relationship building with all bloggers in your niche. Ms. Ileane has been interviewing other bloggers here on Basic Blog Tips for quite some time.

6. Call them to take action

Do you want your readers to do something like subscribe to your blog or keep reading your other posts? If so, you must call them to do it. Readers need to be guided after reading your post. As a blogger, it's your responsibility to show them the way.

In my opinion a good call to action is asking them to subscribe to your newsletter by using a subscription form below posts or to ask them to share your post. If they would like your post than they will love to subscribe. A good call to action is must for taking your blog from zero to hero.

7. Speed up

It's common that a person visit your blog for first time, you have only few seconds to to capture their attention.

Your blog must not take more than 10 seconds to load because if your blog is slow, you will lose not only visitors but you will also lose ranking on search engines. You should look for all possible ways to improve the speed of your blog. Use a good caching plugin like W3 Total Cache.

8. Guest Blogging

Guest blogging is the way which gets you in those circles where the blogging elites hangs out and to take your blogging journey in greater heights. It is an effective way to steel other popular blogs readers by contributing a guest post. Guest blogging is great way for taking your blog from zero to hero in less time – if you do it the right way.

Don't miss Ms. Ileane's post 5 warning signs you're not ready to start guest blogging.

Every blogger starts from zero but growing to being a hero and remaining one is tough. There is a lot of hard work and consistency that’s required. If you build good relationships and solve problems, you’re definitely going to be a hero someday.

  3. Another fantastic post Ehsan !
All the tips are useful especially audiences requirements and guest blogging. I will start guest blogging soon to my blog.

  4. I think ” loading factor ” is really important factor. And then ” Communicate With Your Audience ” is something I never did. I think I should try it now..

    Finally great post..

    1. Good to see you Vivek, A blogger must consider the loading factor of their blog because If it takes time to load than readers will lose interest to visit your blog.

  5. Ehsan was waiting for such tips only. A blogger can definitely get success by following the various tips you have provided in this article. The best thing I liked about this guest post by you here is the title you have given to this blog post..

  6. For 1 and 2, doing a bit of marketing research helps. I also suggest doing a little recon on your competitors, especially where they’re getting their traffic and backlinks from. Market Samurai for the win!

    1. Thanks for passing by Mike, Having full knowledge about your niche is must. I use Alexa to find out where my competitors are getting their most backlinks from.

  7. Online environment is a continuous learning experience, therefore we have to adapt to changes and improve our blogs on a regular basis. In addition, people change and so their needs, so we should be proactive and monitor their behavior regularly.

    1. And according to their behavior we should provide them food in our tree to make them jump on it and enjoy it. Hope you got what I mean Julian 🙂

  8. Hi Ehsan,

Great tips for newbie bloggers. Specially I liked the below thing very much :

visitors are like monkeys and your blog is like a tree. If they will not get food at your tree then to get their requirements fulfilled, they will climb to another tree.

Regarding Speeding-up the blog, I’m not agree with you fully. Your blog should load in < 3sec. You have told < 10 secs, way too much time. Attention span of web-readers have decreased too much, specially with mobile device.

All in all, a good post.

    1. Hey Nandita, Glade you liked that line and I’m sure you’re agree too? 😛

BTW, I know that 10 seconds is too much, but there are some heavy blogs which takes time to load. I think visitors can wait for a page to load for at least 10 seconds, Can’t you?

Optimizing your posts for mobile devices is must.

      1. Personally I will never wait for 10 seconds. Amazon loses its 1% sales if its website loads 1sec slower, and 8 % of my visitors move out ( even when my blog loads completely within 2.5 seconds ). Do you still think 10 seconds is OK..

  9. Hey! Ehsan.

I am pretty agreed with your points. Especially “Sleep With Them” – this is one of the major point that bloggers miss in their schedule, and work against their audience time zone.

But I am not agreed with your interviewing section. Near to me, it is kind of using someone’s popularity to power up your business. or in other words. Kind of de-grading our own blog.

    1. I’m not sure which kind of business you’re talking about Humza, but in blogging It is kind of building good relationship with others bloggers by interviewing them on your blog.

  10. Hi Ehsan,

I was literally laughing at the monkey example and ‘sleep with them’ tips but you did manage to get the point to me. The other tips too are awesome, particularly learning from your mistakes, which I must admit I committed in uncountable numbers when I was just starting out. So that serves as a nice reminder. Guest blogging? I’ve been dormant for quite a long time and I think I should launch it all guns blazing again.

    Aditya

    1. Hi Aditya,

Glade you liked my points here. Learning from your mistakes is what which makes you different from all those blogger who makes the same mistake again and again on their blog. You’re already doing great LikeLiteLife and you’re teaching others how not to repeat the same mistake.

Thanks for stopping by Aditya 🙂

  11. Blogging is like anything other thing you do in the world. You need to be passionate about it. There is no point bluffing as people can see you through it. Guest blogging is the best thing you can do to capture audience and also traffic on niche sites. Thanks for these tips Ehsan from Kunduz.

  12. When I read the line sleep with them, I though you have find a new way of Blogging..:P
Everything is perfect in this Post.. Really awesome writing Ehsan..
    Keep rocking bro..

    1. Lol Nishant, I hope you aren’t going to sleep with any of your reader 😀 Kidding. Glade you liked it bro. Appreciate your comment.

  13. seriously, the part about communicating with your audience is the most essential! just as a comedian can be boring and people stop going to his shows, its the same with a boring blogger.

  14. Congratulations!!! I am really happy to see you on BBT.
It is nothing but WOW my bro Ehsan.

I like the way you imagined new blog as newly born baby. Yes, we should take care of our new blog like a new baby, at the end we get result as young kid.

Thanks bro for sharing knowledge with us. 🙂

Wishing you all the success. 🙂

    1. Thanks Avinash for your kind comment here. A new blog is really like a new born baby because both needs time and effort to grow.

  15. Hey bro,

I must agree with all the points that you have mentioned in this post. Taking your blog blog from zero to hero is really hard to do, but it can be done with the tips that you have given in this article.

Guest blogging is a must. I have slowed down a bit where that is concerned but will be doing it soon.

Also having a fast loading blog is a must.

    Thanks for the timely reminders.

    Happy blogging, Ehsan.

    1. Nice to see you comment here Kharim. Guest blogging as I said is the best way to take your blog to the next level, but other than it you should also have fast loading blog.

  16. I need to give a big try to Guest blogging. Hopefully planning to write a couple of useful and informative articles for BBT. Thanks for these awesome tips.

    1. Nice to know you’re going to try guest blogging Bharat. You should start from small blogs first and improve your guest blogging strategy first than try big blogs like BBT.

  17. Great article. I realized I’m doing only one of those 8 things. I want to do more but I am really afraid to do interviews. I think that fear is holding me back.

    1. Keep the fear away from yourself Adam. Just sent interview request to the big bloggers in your niche. It’s really great thing to do. I
I have done two interviews on my blog yet.

  18. Great tips. I for the month I have tasked myself with doing a guest post on someones blog. I have asked, begged and even tried to bribe people. I am happy to say that today I had my first guest post posted on another blog. I am very happy. You can see it here if you want. Please let me know what you think.

    I am very excited.

    http://baltimoredetailing.net/

    1. I can understand your feeling Joe because I know how it feels when your guest post published on any big blog. I’ve checked it and must say great work! (Y)

  19. One of the biggest things you have to do to become a “hero”is to not give up. Just keep going. Even if it doesn’t seem fun anymore, just keep going – the benefits will be imense in the end. It might seem pointless when you’re a “zero”, but getting to that position of being a hero is all the while worth it – just go for it!

    1. I agree with you Joe, Starting a blog and quitting just after writing 10 or 15 posts will not do anything. One must should stick with there blog in all cases like you said If It doesn’t seem fun anymore.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  20. Your number one priority is to make your readers/visitors satisfy for them to come back more and more. the way you associate yourself with your visitors really count and make an impact to the success of your site. thanks for sharing

  21. great tips for blogging, i made plenty of mistakes when i started my website i ended up changing software to WordPress and started again. In this world you have to admit your wrong and change or adapt quickly otherwise you’ll never be a ‘Hero’

  22. Communicating with the audience and maintaing good relations with them is my basic rule for blogging. When we make a conversation with them, we get a chance to know them and their expectations from our blog better. In this way, they also develope a trust for the blog as well as the blogger which is good to start with.

    1. Yup Paul, If you try to build relationship any top blog first for few months than If you request for a guest post, he/she will accept it. Relationship building is must in blogging.

  23. Blogging is one of the best ways to gain a lot of money as well as fame. You need to have patience as well as have an idea about what niche you are going use for creating your blog. This article will be of great help to make your idea grow big. I will surely use this post and also will tell my friends about it.

  24. Good post Ehsan. Patience is another key aspect of blogging and making it a successful venture. Giving up shouldn’t be an option for a blogger. As you rightly said, we can only learn from mistakes.

  25. Great post ehsan. I have been struggling in establishing myself as a pro-blogger, with very little success so far. Your post, and guide on you blog have been quite informative for me.

    Keep sharing the good work.

    Regards,

  27. Good post Ehsan, Good as usual.. I am unable to configure W3 Total cache.. can you help me to sort it out.. cause it have lots of option to check.. and I don’t know how to use it what each option does.

  28. Ehsan,

Very good stuff dude… I’m on board with everything you wrote. I would like to emphasize the page load time.

If you’re site takes too much time to load people will leave… That is a fact and reality of the Internet.

    Thanks

    Hanley

  29. Interesting post. I agree with most of the points specially the one regarding sleeping with them 😀 lol! but really good points. After all communication is the king.

  30. Great tips! Having your blog noticed is an extremely difficult task since there are so many “ok” blogs out there. You definitely need to make your blog outstanding in order to get noticed. This way your blog visitors will want to come back for more information.

    1. You’re right Elena, To get noticed and to beat all the competitors you need to do something outstanding. You need to do something to make your readers love your blog.

  31. I do not want it easy to build my blog because the initial success I have could trick me into believing everything will be this easy.

I agree with you about learning from mistakes, because if you do not make mistakes then you have no reference when things get tough.

I have been blogging for about 2 years on and off so the mistakes I made along the way taught me things are not easy and readers are hard to come by.

    1. Great to know you’re able to learn from your mistakes Michael. I have also done lots of mistakes in my blogging journey and I also got to learn great things from my mistakes.

  32. Very interesting tips. Most of the time, newbies don’t get it. They want to succeed almost instantly. If someone doesn’t have perseverance, he/she will not succeed in an online career..

  33. Oh, it is so cute that you compare your blog with a baby)) because it is true! if you want your work to be succeed you should work hard and all the time!

About your article, i would say i loved it, the way you have put together all the info in a single post and that too explaining each point well makes me salute you. I wasn’t able to stop myself from laughing after i read this point- “Sleep With Them” but what you explained in there is the reality, if a blogger doesn’t know about his audience then there is no chance they can excel.

  46. Hey Vijayraj, I also think that daily posting sucks for single author blogs because If you try to post daily you can’t bring quality and uniqueness in your posts which is must to capture the attention of readers.
Thanks for stopping by in my comment Vijayraj.

  47. Hey Neha, Ohh so you landed on my blog from here. I’m really happy for my guest post on Basic Blog Tips. You must have not only idea, but knowledge, passion and experience as well.
