Drive Blog Traffic With Pinterest

How to Use Pinterest to Drive Traffic to Your Website

Whenever a new social network goes public, as a Blogger and internet marketer, we should try to find a way to use it for networking and also to bring traffic to our Blog.

Pinterest is one of those social networking sites, which started with a unique concept and became popular in no time. For many bloggers, Pinterest is driving more traffic than Facebook or any other social network. Being an image oriented social networking site, it's beneficial for many niches and an image pinned from your blog post could easily go viral and drive immense traffic. You'll also find that many of the big brands on Pinterest like Nordstrom, Target and Martha Stewart are driving traffic and sales from the platform.

But like we say, there is no shortcut to success, and even on Pinterest you not only need to be patient but you need to have a strategy to drive traffic from Pinterest. Everyone is hooked to Pinterest these days and why not, after all it is a great social visual bookmarking site that has a very catchy interface which has taken the world by storm.

Drive Traffic with Pinterest

That just adds to the spice of it all as you can enjoy using the site and at the same time use it to draw attention to your blog. If you wish to do the same thing but don’t know how to go about it, then, here’s how to bring traffic to your blog using Pinterest.

Using Pinterest to driving traffic to your Website

Make your blog post pinnable:

Very first thing which you need to start with is making your blog pinnable. Add a Pinterest button on your blog post and make it easy for your readers to pin images from your Blog. You can use plugins or try a premium plugin for Pinterest which quickly add social bookmarking buttons on your blog your readers can easily add images from your blog articles to their Pinterest boards.

If you are creating a website just to drive Pinterest traffic, make sure a Pinit button is attached to every image on your blog post. This will make your blog articles more lucrative. For example, if you run a blog selling funny pictures, t-shirts, or sports memorabilia, be sure to display a Pin it button on all of your images so readers to quickly pin them.

Ask people to pin stuff on your Pinterest board

I know that there are not many people who know about this, but this is very much possible and it will attract a lot of attention as well. The effort that you need to put in is minimal and the results can be astonishing.

Simply create a board and then click on the Edit button, the screen that appears will have the “Me+ Contributors” button which you must click on and then you can list all your contributors. All the readers are now eligible to pin stuff straight on your Group Board after they have entered their user name.

Make a contest that allows the people to pin something on your community Pinterest board and at the end of the competition change the settings back to normal. Choose the best pin and thank the person whose pin you liked most.

Your Pinterest board must be flashy and must attract attentionDrive Blog Traffic With Pinterest

This is something very basic, but at the same time, it works well. If the pictures that you pin are enticing, then the people will surely check out your board and they also have the choice of viewing where the picture was originally posted and this will help you to get the required attention to your site and increase your blog traffic.

Start Clicking

Bring out the photographer in you and start clicking all that interests you. Go on the path that is less trodden and don’t stick to clichés. Be imaginative and add pictures that are related to your blog and then pin them on your board.

Offer Solutions with your pictures

This is something that not everyone has the capability to do. You need to go that extra mile if you want to really attract the attention of Pinterest users and thus, you can do that by offering pictures that have a solution to a certain general problem and if these solutions are related to your blog, then that is even better as the attention is assured.

Go through the copyright information of Pinterest

It is imperative that you go through the copyright terms and conditions that Pinterest has, so that you do not violate any of their terms or open yourself to violations that will not be good publicity for your blog.

Now, that you have the answer to “How to bring traffic to your blog using Pinterest?” you must make use of all these tips and use the site to increase the traffic of your blog while having fun pinning stuff that you like on your board. The site is sure to become more important to you once it becomes your marketing weapon.

  1. I have heard a lot of good reviews about Pinterest. Many of my blogging colleagues have told me that it is a great source of traffic and exposure for most of them, but I have not yet started using it. But may be I should now give it a shot and follow these tips provided by you to make the most out of it, right from the beginning :).

    1. Priyangshu,

I recommend you start using pinterest from today. It’s a great source of traffic and you can also use for building great networking with other users too.

      Good luck.

  2. To be honest, I never try to use Pinterest to drive traffic to my blogs before. Today I find it interesting when reading this article. I’ll register a Pinterest account and add a “Pin it” button to my blogs now.

Thanks for these useful tips, Amrik 😉

  3. Good points on how to use pinterest to drive traffic. No doubt that it has grown big and some even swear by it. But to be honest, I must the only one in the world who is not able to use it efficiently hence given up on it. But I suppose you have to be more interactive and spend time on it to get the benefits. I need to get that plugin what allows you to insert the pinterest send button for every image.

    1. Hi Shalu,

Thanks for leaving your comment on my post. Pinterest can help bringing traffic to your blog. Do you know it is the second top most traffic source at the moment and I am loving it.

Good luck and suggest you to join as soon as possible.

      Cheers!

  4. I personally feel that Pinterest needs to optimize its pins display system. Currently there is a huge replication. Pin optimization could be good and will help bloggers to get more traffic through Pinterest.

    1. I hope your request will be fulfill soon.
      Thanks for commenting!
      Good luck

  5. I’ve been hearing a lot more about Pinterest in the past few weeks – the network has been growing in popularity for quite some time, but it’s been featured a lot a lately. I guess people are really starting to pick up on its features. Thanks for the tip about asking others to post to your board, I didn’t know about that one. It’s like Facebook’s wall-sharing feature. I only wish they were a bit more specific with their overall categories.

    1. Pinterest has been around for awhile, I’m surprised there’s still people who heard about it only recently. Anyway, I still feel Facebook is much better for driving traffic to your blog than Pinterest, and I don’t see how the latter can withstand the test of time. It’s new and “in” now but I think its popularity will drop quickly.

      1. Sometimes you’d be surprised what sticks around and what doesn’t. Only time can tell for sure.

  6. Hi Ameenah,

  14. Thanks for reminding me about Pinterest . Now created a Pinterest Acc. . Thanks Very much as pinterest is good for backlinks and getting traffic .

  15. Pinterest is a great source for traffic but it’s better for e-commerce sites or sites dealing in fashion, photography, food & recipe etc. For internet marketing blog, it’s good to drive traffic which could be helpful in improving rank but in terms of business, the target audience is different.

    Thanks for sharing this.

  16. Hi Amrik,

I am also using Pinterest button on my blog. Even i pin and repin many things on my Pinterest account but do not know the real benefit of it. Thanks for sharing such a useful article. This article not only tells how to increase traffic to your blog but also make people aware of this amazing social media website.

  17. Pinterest is another great way to get traffic to your blog. However, it is not as easy as people make it seem to get alot of traffic from pinterest. Great article though.

    Nice share

  22. Amrik, thanks for this lesson. I was advised to include Pinterest in my marketing plan but I had no idea how to get started. This was very valuable and timely.

  23. Planning to use it for our Fashion ecommerce startup when I finish developing it. For tech blogging I think its quite tough to get traffic from Pinterest

  24. I pin each of my posts. I really love it when someone takes one of my pins and repins it on their own account. Pinterest is a real traffic builder.

  25. Great, useful tips there, especially for Pinterest ‘newbies’ like myself. Been hearing good things about Pinterest, and the general buzz seems to be very positive. The question is, will it be able to give the big players, like Facebook, a real run for their money?

  26. I have seen that mostly photo blogs are getting good traffic from pinterest. Pinterest users are not much interested in tech or blogging tips like photos

  27. I have seen Pinterest button on many blogs but never try to explore it. Amrik really you have posted the anatomy of the Pinterest and I will follow these for my sites.

  28. I’ve definitely seen a steady growth of Pinterest traffic as I’ve dived deeper into the Social Network…

I’m started to become a very big fan… Thanks for the great post..

    Ryan H.

  29. I’m very hesitant to use pinterest, because even though all the graphics on my blog were custom made for me (every featured image is unique)..pinterest doesn’t seem like a place to promote my niche. My niche(s) is forum management and blogging so I don’t see myself getting many results from spending time promoting on pinterest. I can see it working for a design company or a fashion blog, but not my blog.

I open to trying it, but I’m already having negative thoughts about it. What are your thoughts about using it for my niche?

  30. I’ve been using Pinterest lately but I’m not really getting much traffic from it. Maybe it is just because of my niche though.

  31. I have been using Pinterest to drive traffic to my forever lasting flower website. I would say the clicks are very high quality. When I looked in Google Analytics, most people stay onsite for 20min comparing to 3min from Facebook or Twitter.

  32. I have been using Pinterest from couple of days & was trying to understand how could I get most from this. Your article suggested exactly the same things.
Let me check if Pinterest can give me more traffic than Facebook.
    Nice article Amrik

  33. Great article. My niche(s) is forum management and blogging so I don’t see myself getting many results from spending time promoting on Pinterest. the general buzz seems to be very positive.

  34. Pinterest is all about pictures and more pictures. Pinning as many pictures to the board still makes us feel it is less. It also plays an important role in blogging. Pinning relevant pictures to the blog and posts is fun as well as attention grabbing. It helps to understand the content better.

  35. Pinterest is quite famous social site now. Most of the users get attracted and click by view of the pictures. It plays a vital role in increasing visitors to your site.

  36. Pininterest is something we’ve just started looking into unfortunately but it really does look like something quite special.

  37. I have been using Pinterest and the outcome is quite good. I might also consider your suggestions to maximize this social networking site and gain more traffic.

  38. I was wondering what is the ratio visitor from pinterest/sell ? Because it takes a lot of time to work on that pinterest, make it attractive etc. So is it a good deal or finally a wast of time ?

  39. Great post! We have a food blog with lots of photos. As soon as we added a Pinterest button, our traffic increased significantly.

  47. Despite pinning some good mountain climbing images on to pinterest I’ve found it difficult to create any interest. As you’ve said, driving traffic from my website to pinterest might be a good idea to get more followers.

  52. Great article and many thanks. I think the increased use of high speed internet is driving the growth of images in social media. It is important to keep up with these trends. Instagram is another image based type of social network which is upcoming and people may want to investigate.

  53. Hi Amrik, Pinterest grows so big now and every time I randomly pin a picture on it, I’ll definitely get traffic from it. But after your tips, I think I’m going to double the amount of traffic I get from Pinterest 🙂

    Thanks so much – Ferb

  54. It seems like with any social media, you have to exert a great amount of energy to get traffic from pinterest. I think it might be easier to just find someone you know who is heavily into pinterest and ask them to pin some of your sites info to a board, unless you want to invest the time it takes to build up a presence on the site, but that can be rather tedious if your not interested in the concept of the site.

  55. Hi,

Pinterest is also an amazing social network which is not only helps us in getting referral traffic but also play a role in serps. Although it is one of the most top social site.

recently i had started using of pinterest and iam amazed to the sharing of images by pinned on the board generates this much traffic.

  57. I try Pinterest, amazing traffic generation soruce. If you have fashion, gossip, entertainment type site try it. You get huge amount of traffic.

Looking forward to new information on the Pinterest subject from you. Have a great day.

  64. Hi Amrik!

I am very hesitant to use pinterest, because even though all the graphics on my blog were custom made for me (every featured image is unique)..pinterest doesn’t seem like a place to promote my niche.

  65. Brian Nussbaum

    Hey-

I found this post to be very helpful for me because until now, I was pretty fuzzy about the effectiveness and efficacy of Pinterest, as a marketing outlet.

But now I can see that it’s a visual Facebook/Twitter hybrid with a more direct connection to your market, more or less.

Included some fully credited references from your post in mine, and provided you with a back link to back you up. Thank you very much for providing such great value and I’ll be sure to share your content when applicable.

    Carpe Diem!
    Cease the Day!!

  66. Hmm thanks for the useful post, I’ve pretty much been ignoring Pinterest until now but I guess extra site traffic can never hurt.

  67. Still kinda new to the whole pinterest concept. I have the buttons installed, but it doesn’t really seem to be driving to much traffic. I will try to focus on some of the concepts here to see if it can help me out.

  68. I agree with you that Pinterest can bring a lot more traffic than Twitter. It is especially good for niches like fashion, celebrity, recipes etc. For blogging and marketing, I have been using Pinterest from last 3 months but I have received a cold response so far but being active is fun….

  69. I have always wondered what the hype about Pinterest was especially when it comes to SEO. Thanks for the detailed explanation. It sure has convinced me to start taking advantage of this extremely popular social site for my internet marketing efforts!

  70. I think pinterest is important to drive more traffic in your site. It’s true pinterest is driving more traffic than Facebook or any other social network, but you need to have a strategy to drive traffic from pinterset. I use pinterest to drive more traffic in my site. If you want to drive pinterest traffic then you need to attach pinterest button in every images.

  71. As I said Earlier i started using Pinterest and it’s really awesome,am getting lots from my site and also getting Traffic the same time.. so i would like to say that Pinterest is Just awesome.

  72. Hey Ileane,

It seems that there is always another ‘new big thing’ just when I start to get accustomed with the old ‘new big thing’!
I guess figuring out what will stick and won’t is vital to this online endeavor.

    Thanks.

  73. I’ve tried pinterest but unfortunately it’s not worth the work in my niche. It’s mostly fashion stuff. But to be honest, I haven’t put full efforts into pinterest so that’s also probably why it didn’t work out for me.

  74. I have always wondered about this uproar about pinterest especially when it comes to SA-based SEO company with head office. I thank you for your detailed explanation. Without a doubt had been persuaded to start exploiting this very famous social space online marketing efforts!

  75. I’ve been using Pinterest but do not know how to take traffic to my website. I will try to do what you said, I hope the website will get more traffic than before. Thank so much.
