Guest blogging benefits

3 Main Reasons Why You Should Try Guest Posting At Least Once

Guest posting is a type of contribution to another blog, and when done correctly, it means that you write a unique blog post and publish it on another blog. That post will solely belong to the blog owner and can't be republished anywhere else.

There are actually many people who refuse to do guest posting on others blogs because of this one reason, “When I write a unique and awesome article, why don't I write and publish the blog post on my own blog?”, this question has been asked and answered thousands of times, but still there are people refuse to submit guest posts on other blogs.

You should actually try guest posting on others blog at least once to see how effective it is, there are many unforeseen and hidden advantages in guest posting. Who knows that you get clients who like your writing and hire you as freelance writer, or an advertiser who gets to know your website through your guest post on others blog? These unforeseen and hidden advantages always come as a big surprise.

3 Reasons Why You Should Try Guest Posting

Guest posting benefitsYou must never think that guest posting is just wasting your time and benefit the others, remember that guest posting will bring unlimited advantages to your blog in long term basis.

Here are reasons why you should try guest posting at least once:-

1) One Way Dofollow Natural Backlinks
When you write guest posts on others blogs, most blog owners will allow you to insert at least one backlink into your guest post or at the beginning of the post or at the end of the post as a credit for your contribution, usually these links are dofollow. That being said, you get one way dofollow natural backlinks to your blog or website. I believe that you know that Google loves natural backlinks, so Google will rank your blog better in the Google search engine.

2) Brand Building
Remember that we must write high quality and helpful guest post on others blog because there will be hundreds or thousands of readers of the blog will check out your guest post. If you share fantastic content, the readers of the blog will be more likely to check out your blog and your brand is built from there.

Bear in mind while writing the guest post, you must always take the guest post as the post that you'll publish it on your own blog because most of the bloggers will only keep the best post on their own blogs, so you have to think it this way and you'll be writing an awesome post. On the other hand, it may ruin your blog and your brand if you deliver a lousy post when you guest blog.

3) Direct Traffic
Needless to say, you'll receive direct targeted traffic to your blog if you insert your blog URL into the guest post. It's linked with the point #2, you have to deliver high quality guest post in order to get people to read your blog, I believe that most of the readers don't visit your blog if they see you deliver lousy guest post and they assume your blog is lousy too.

What's Next After Your Guest Post Is Published?

Guest posting is always the best way to build one way dofollow natural backlinks, build up your blog brand, drive more traffic to your blog, and so on. These will be achieved only with the condition that you write high quality guest post. Once your guest post is approved and published on the blog, your task is not completed yet, you shall reply to comments from readers and interact with them. Building up a community around your niche is one of the purposes of guest posting, it will help you grow faster in long run. Promote your guest post on social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn.

I couldn't find any reasons why don't you try guest posting on others blog. And even though you might not believe in guest posting, I think you should try at least once in your blogging journey. You should now go and find a blog which has similar niche with yours, check out the guest posting requirement, write a guest post according to the requirement, and submit for approval. Eventually, you'll find out how effective is guest posting is in marketing and branding your blog.

Have you tried guest posting before? How was the result?

  1. I completely agree with you. Guest posting is the way to go now. I have tried it and so far have done a couple and it has its rewards undoubtedly. It creates traffic and spreads the word about your site as well. What I find rather strange is that many blog webmasters, don’t bother to reply to your emails when you approach them for publishing. But as you say guest posting is a great way to get back links and exposure.

    1. @Shalu Sharma,
I’m sure that not all the bloggers would reply your email or don’t bother to interact with you at all, perhaps they have many other more important tasks to do, or they don’t treat it serious. Even though you’re already established and well known in your field, you still have to interact with your readers to keep up great relationship. Unfortunately, there are many bloggers couldn’t do it all the time. 😉

    Hi Lee,

    Yes, Yes and Yes.

I don’t guess post with backlinks in mind, even though they provide you with some link juice. It’s more for the building relationships and making people aware of what you offer. Same here, I recommend people promote their guest post, it makes what they write look so much better compared to only having a few comments.

    1. @Simmeon,
Backlink is a plus in guest posting, but we shall focus more on interaction and communication with readers to get more exposure, it’s how we build up a brand in our niche. Search engine ranking may leave you one day, but good relationship wouldn’t leave you if do it continuously in the right way.

    1. @Tanmay Sawant,
Blog commenting in dofollow blog can be powerful to get dofollow backlink too, but for me guest posting is much more important to build up community and relationship with readers. At the same time, we get dofollow NATURAL backlinks. 🙂 Tanmay, you should try from now!

  12. I can get strong dofollow backlinks from my guest posts for any pages using any keywords. Just because of this I like guest post. It’s help to increase blog authority and traffic. In this post you describe all of my experience. Nice article, thanks for share.

  14. Hi Lee,

I was recently asked to do a guest post and quickly agreed. It will be my first and I’m looking forward to it. To me, this is a chance for increased exposure and the opportunity to connect with readers that haven’t visited my blog. I really don’t see any downside to guest posting.

    1. @Jamella Biegel,
You should really try once Jamella, you just can’t imagine how powerful is guest posting for your blog. Write a guest post, get published, and communicate with readers! 🙂

  15. I’ve guest posted once or twice in my life. Not sure if it provided a great deal of backlinks to my site or not, it’s been a minute since I’ve done it, but I definitely wanted the owner to know that my posts brought traffic to his site. Come to think of it, it’s not really about me, but what I can do for my friend.

With that written, I appreciate your post. In the end, we do want to see a benefit for our efforts.

    Thanks!

    1. @Damond Nollan,
When it comes to backlinks, you won’t be seeing any result in a short period, you have to keep doing it and get tons of links like this, your ranking will be growing throughout the process and you may be getting some really good PR for your blog.

Glad to know that you read this post and I hope you enjoy reading it!

  16. Hi Lee,

Very nice and informative post. Guest post is a great way to engage with other bloggers drive traffic to your blog build quaility natural backlinks. Once your post get publsihed you should promote your post, respond the comments.

In short Guest blogging >> Traffic to your blog >> Natural Backlinks >> Get more readers to your blog. 🙂

    Thank you.

    1. @Ajnabii,
Yes that’s the correct way and how we should really follow while doing guest posting. Besides, it builds community as well as your brand. 😉

  17. Guest Posting has now become one of the essential part in blogging to drive traffic and make your Blog popular. No one should skip this. BTW nice and valuable article. Thanks for sharing this info 🙂

    1. @Hasan Ali,
You’re right Hasan, most of the bloggers are doing guest posting these days. We can’t deny it that guest post would bring in unlimited advantages to your blog if you do it right. You shall do it and see how’s performance for your blog Hasan. 😉

  18. @Puneet Tyagi,
It depends on what purpose you’re to write guest post? To build up community or to get traffic and backlinks? If your purpose is traffic and backlinks, you can write guest post on Tech Site, the link is irrelevant but you could get some backlink juice as well. If you’re planning to build up community around your niche, that might be difficult as there is not much blog in your niche.

In your case, I would say you can write guest post in any niche blogs, you’ll still be able to build your brand as long as you have your personality and specialize, as you can see there are many sites on the internet, for example LifeHacker.

    I hope it helps. 🙂

  19. Hi Lee!

Great post and I could not agree you more that guest posting is the great way of bring direct backlinks to your site but keep connecting with the readers in the comments section has great importance because if you didn’t answer them, than you can lose all your efforts. So, for me highly created content + interaction with the readers = gives you great benefits.

Thanks for sharing great post Lee! 🙂

    1. @Ayaz,
Yes you’re right, your tasks isn’t ended after your guest post is published, you have to reply comments and interact with readers to build up relationship and community around your niche, otherwise it won’t be effective.

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment Ayaz! 🙂

  20. Another guest posting article. This reminds me again to try guest posting in other relevant blogs. However, I’ m still busy creating my new blog so I think I’ll set it later on. Thanks for the tips!

    1. You do need to take things in your own pace, Adam.
Just make it a part of your future blog planning and have it on your radar – those sorts of activities are easy to forget and then you fail to reap the benefit when you do have the time and energy.

  21. It’s also a good idea to confirm with the website host that they do give you a dofollow – I know my site does however I also get asked the question since some of my guest postes have been ‘burnt’ in the past by other sites.

All in all though, Lee, it is a solid strategy to enhance your online efforts for more higher quality authority and relevance.

    1. @Martin Cooney,
In my opinion, I don’t bother about dofollow or nofollow, as long as my guest post published and I could communicate with the readers, then I’m fine with it even though it’s a nofollow link, of course that would be great if we can get dofollow link, but it’s not essential in my side. 🙂

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment Martin!

  22. Guest Posting certainly the best way to build quality backlinks from relevant blogs, which ultimately results in brand building and generating direct and relevant traffic.

    1. @Aarti,
Yes definitely, it will bring unpredictable benefit for your blog. Try it out and see how good is it for your blog. 😉

  23. It has been my experience that guest posting does deliver the 3 main benefits you mentioned but peculiarly that direct traffic is somewhat fleeting and does not come from the author resource link -like many others have taught- more than it does from the replies I’ve made to the comments associated with the guest posts I’ve done.

My few guest posts gave generated comments that caused ppl to visit my sites from the replies which contained a CommentLuv link. So I would highly suggest when submitting a guest post that you try your best to get it on a blog that has CommentLuv enabled 😉

But again, the traffic eventually goes cold and even if your seo was on point that normally doesn’t take effect til weeks or months later so I prefer to buy traffic and use guest posting when I truly have something I need to say as opposed to just using it as another traffic getting method..

    1. @Caleb,
You’re right Caleb, guest posting somehow doesn’t generate much direct traffic to your blog, as well as dofollow backlink which may take several months to take effect, but in my opinion guest posting is about building community through conversation and it’s a way to build up everything in long term basis. Same as you, I do have some readers visit my blog and leave comment from the guest post, perhaps they click through the CommentLuv, I have no idea but it works.

I personally don’t mind about traffic and backlinks at the moment, I focus more on building community and relationship with readers, that would be more effective. We somehow don’t really know what guest post can gives you, but it will definitely give you surprise in coming days. 🙂

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment Caleb!

  24. I can’t believe there are people who think that guest posting is a waste of resources. It introduces your writing (not to mention your product) to a completely new community of people. It’s the bloggers version of going on tour, you just have to do it if you want to get your brand out.

    1. @Sarif Brock,
They might be out of mind, guest posting has been proven by many big guns out there to be the best way to build brand, backlinks, traffic and community. Anyway, we shall do it once in awhile to build credibility for our blog and ownself. 🙂

  25. Hi Lee,

These are the three points which are coming in my mind when i read this title. I thought there is some thing new but you have explained some basic points with very explanation and it seems that you have won a good Guest post. 🙂
You have done a guest post to explain 3 reasons for guest posting. 🙂

How ever i would add one point that if you search for Guest post blogs, you will have to contact other owners and in this way you can get connected with other bloggers and increase your network.

Hope to read your more guest posts.

    Thanks

    Supertintin

    1. @Lei,
You’re right Lei, even though your guest post doesn’t accept by other bloggers, but you get in touch with them for future deal.

Thanks for reading my guest post and I hope you like it Lei! 🙂

  26. I think that guest posting is absolutely useful but I worry that this has become the new way to get backlinks and I don’t want it to get abused. I mean, we have to admit that the backlink you get is really sweet. I just hope Google doesn’t discredit these links, too.

    1. @Kasi,
In fact, do not bother much on the backlinks, keep interacting and building up a community around your niche is much more important. This kind of backlinks is natural and strong, I believe that Google will not remove this from the algorithm. 😉

  27. I just started my blog about three weeks ago. I am trying to get a following but I also understand that an auto detailing blog my not be a very interesting blog site. I have googled looking for some that have done successful blogs and there are not very many out there. So I figure I can go the route of being a guest blogger to see if I can gain traction that way. I am also looking to see if anyone would be interested in blogging on my site. So far, no takers.

    1. @Joe,
You have to at least build up your blog to reach certain stage, says each of your blog post receives some comment, or your blog gets Pagerank and Alexa Rank. Once you’ve achieved these, people will be more likely to write on your blog. What people want is to interact with more different readers, at the same time to get dofollow link and traffic, so your blog should have something that they want to take.

So now you should improve your blog by writing more content, and build up community around your niche. 🙂

  28. I did not read through all 50 comments so I apologize for repeats. Guest blogging is such a win win experience for everyone that I think it is a must. I only wish more bloggers were of the giving kind with dofollow links. But that is another story for another day.

Guest blogging gets you links, new readers and the chance to create brand awareness. If you have a story to tell, guest blogging is as easy as can be.

This blog is quite the bee hive of commenting, glad I found it through BizSugar.

    1. @Michael,
Nowadays, many bloggers don’t open dofollow links on their blogs to secure their link juice, but I don’t mind about this and I use Dofollow on my blog, as long as readers provide genuine comment, I would be happy to give dofollow backlinks.

Glad to see you here Michael, BasicBlogTips is a great blogging resource blog, you shall come more often. 🙂

  29. I totally agree – all great reasons to do guest posts! It’s definitely both a great way to get backlinks and traffic for your website. I think you’ve inspired me to do more of it!

  30. Completely agree! Guest posting is the best way to drive direct traffic. For new blogs, as there is no source of getting organic traffic, they should target guest posts to get good amount of traffic and it gives quality backlinks too.

    1. @Koundeenya,
You shall do guest posting wisely if your blog is new, you can drive traffic through guest posting to your new baby blog but you’re hardly to keep them because your blog is new and may not have enough content for them to stay longer. I would recommend you to do guest posting when your blog has some content and audience to keep it growing. 🙂

  31. Now I see how you can really benefit of blog guesting. It sound effective and promising strategy, I must try this out to my blog. Thanks for sharing this great posted. Useful to online marketers and bloggers.

  32. Guest posting is certainly a great way to attract targeted traffic in quick time, however no one can ignore the power of social media but generally it takes huge efforts and time to generate result.

    1. @Becca,
Yes it takes time and effort to generate result, perhaps months or years. It’s not a big deal once you’ve built up a community, you just can’t imagine the power of community.

  33. I have tried this technique for several times with pretty good results. As opposed to commenting, guest blogging is better, as the links are contextual and have a higher value in the Google’s eyes.

    1. @Julian King,
Yes Julian, we shall always do this from time to time to create credibility for our blog and build a brand for ourselves. After we submit our guest post, reply readers’ comments and interaction is a must to build up relationship.

  34. My personal favorite part of Guest Posting is the relationship you build with the owner of the blog… Over the course of a few guest posts that relationship can build into a strong friendship…

That’s when the real work gets done.

    Thanks!!

    Ryan H.

    1. @Ryan Hanley,
Yes, building relationship with readers and building up a community is much more important than direct traffic and backlinks from the blog. We shall focus more on interaction with readers. 🙂

  35. Hey Lee,

Well, for a beginner like me, these tips are something I’d be building my whole blog upon. I love it when people like you are ready to write for the people starting from ground up.

    Loved your writeup.
    Thanks 🙂

    1. @Emma,
You shall do it once your blog grows up, it’s good to share experience to different readers from various blogs, and also build relationship with them.

Thanks for reading Emma and I hope you like it! 🙂

  36. @Pulkit Gupta,
Yes Pulkit, you shall try it and see how’s the performance for your blog. 🙂

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment Pulkit!

  37. Now I’m totally convinced with the benefits of guest blogging. It looks very much of an effective strategy. Thanks for sharing the stuff.

  38. I have to admit, I have been putting off guest blogging in the past because I just started out blogging. It’s only recently that I’ve been really giving guest blogging some serious thought. Reading your post has encouraged to start giving it a try. Thanks!

  39. Raaj Trambadia

My first guest post ever was to build relationship with the blog owner and the blog’s readers and commentators! Even though I’ve done many guest posts now, my second best intention is relationship building! Cheers to the post!

PS – Take a look at my giveaway! 5 Blog Engage accounts!

  40. Vivek Kumar Poddar

Thanks for such a great post. I think guest posting is really very important for new bloggers. Its best way to get exposer, building trust among the readers. And you also get lovely dofollow backlinks

Thanks for such a great post..

  41. Totally agree with you Lee …

Guest blogging brings in amazing results if implemented in a correct way. I also agree with you on the most common reason for not to guest blog.

  42. Hey Lee,

Guest posting gives many advantages to blogger, No matter for what purpose one can do it. But main thing is that guest posting rewards the bloggers about what they want. And guest posting is becoming the most popular way to interact with other bloggers.

    Thanks.

  43. One quick question Lee, would you suggest guest posting if we do not have great information on our site to show all the incoming traffic from a guest post.

  44. Pretty nice post! .. These 3 points are most basic tips.. It grabs all my attention.. Quite fascinating!!

  45. It builds your brand and it brings you traffic as well Anyway, at the moment I would focus more on building relationship with readers rather than backlinks and traffic. Good post, thanks for sharing.

  46. Oh I can not tell you have frustrating it is for a blog author when a guest posters publishes his/her post and then disappears into the night. I’m a big advocate of replying to comments so I’m normally left to answer them and a lot of the time it will be about something that I have little knowledge of (affiliate marketing, SEO, etc).

I have thought of bringing in a rule that states if you don’t come back to answer comments in a certain time-frame then your post will be deleted. Not sure if others feel this is fair or not. 🙂

  47. Anton Koekemoer

    Hi Lee,

Yes – The value and exposure guest blogging can bring to your site is absolutely great. Not only from a Search Engine Point of view – but also creating and building an Authoritative image for yourself within the particular niche and website. Especially when it comes to affiliate networking. A guest post on a similar network or website means a lot in terms of value and ROI (if done right).

  48. Guest Posting is best for making brand, dofollow links and make some followers who love to read your writing. Guest Posting gives us many more. thanks for sharing with us.

  49. awesome reasons.. I never did guest post but now i will try to do one, As it is best to get high rankings and to get links from high authority sites .. Thanks

  50. Lee,

You are so right about guest blogging–it works great. And, I think the steps afterward are very important. You need to promote your guest posts just like you do your normal posts!

    Cheers,
    Robert

  51. Hi – hope you can answer my question. I was approached recently by someone who wants to do a guest post on my blog. The company that they write for is a fairly big online lighting company. She writes their blog. The post would not be an advertisement – I gave her a few ideas on topics that could possibly work.

My dilemma is- shouldn’t I get something for my readers for this post? As in a “win a coupon for 25% off” or something? I believe that if we create some kind of buzz for her post – we would see more traffic. If she just writes a generic post (and she is a pretty good writer…I have seen her writing…but nothing that would wow someone to keep reading – like a “win this light fixture” or win a % off anything on their site).

I’d like to start accepting guest posts (and doing them – so far I have only had one person who wanted me to do one but then it never happened). Any advice for me??

    Linda
