10 WordPress Plugins You Can Install Today To Improve Your Blog

With thousands of WordPress plugins to choose from, finding the best ones is not easy.  We all want a blog that's optimized for the search engines, our visitors, and ultimately our business.  Based on these three objectives, here are 10 of my favorite WordPress plugins you can use right away to make your blogs function a lot better!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Plugins

Creating a blog that is optimized for search engines can increase your number of targeted, high quality visitors.  Here are 6 great WordPress plugins to help you improve your on-page SEO.

1. All-In-One SEO Pack WordPress Plugins

This is one of the most well-known SEO plugins that's been around.  It automatically optimizes your WordPress blog for the search engines.  Because of its effectiveness, it's considered a must have plugin and continues to be one of the best free SEO plugins.

In case you have not used it yet, this plugin allows you to add the best meta data, tags, and descriptions about your blog.  It helps the search engines understand what your blog is about and then categorize your site with better accuracy.

WordPress PluginsIn the main settings of this plugin, you can decide on what keywords, titles, and descriptions to be used for your website.  Within each post, you can add more keywords for that specific post.  This is extremely important for the search engines in order for it to place your posts on the top results and drive targeted traffic to your site.

2. Google XML Sitemaps

Google XML Sitemaps is another popular and must-have WordPress Plugin due to its powerful function.  With the sitemap it creates, you can place it anywhere you want to accommodate your site's layout.  What this plugin does is it helps the search engine spiders to crawl your site to get an accurate layout of its structure.  In addition, it allows the search engines to track your site whenever a new post, page or other contents are added.

3. Scribe SEO

Scribe SEO is a new plugin created by CopyBlogger, one of the most influential websites for many bloggers and online marketers.  This is an effective SEO plugin when it comes to SEO for both posts and pages.

This plugin goes through your post and evaluates it based on its keywords, text layout and other relevant factors to give your a score along with tips to optimized it for the search engines.

4. SEO Pressor

SEO Pressor is one of the top picks for 2011.  Similar to Scribe SEO, it provides each post with a score.  It also tracks your H1, H2 and H3 counts and the number of internal links.  It makes your posts more appealing for the search engines and helps improve your rankings

5. SEO Smart Links

This is a simple plugin that saves you a lot of time. It makes internal links automatically within your posts based on your keywords.  NOTE: This plugin is no longer recommended

6. SEO Friendly Images

Having images in your posts is a plus for SEO and your visitors.  This simple plugin adds an alternate text (alt) and title description to your images for the search engines, making it easier for the spiders to crawl your content.

WordPress Plugins To Encourage Readers Interaction

If you have quality content that gets you traffic and comments, that's great.  But you may also need some plugins that provide additional functions that help your visitors feel more encouraged and excited about commenting on your blog, right?  Here are 2 WordPress plugins that help you do the work.

7. CommentLuv

CommentLuv is a widely used plugin considered a must have by many bloggers.  This plugin encourages comments, allowing the commenters latest post to be linked back to their blogs.  This is a win-win situation where you get more traffic to your blog, interact with your visitors, and they get the rewards for commenting.

8. WordPress Threaded Comments

As what its name suggests, this plugin allows your readers to interact with each other and the discussion will be displayed threaded.  It also allows you to interact directly with your readers in an organized manner.  You need this plugin if your existing theme doesn't have this function built in.

Business Boosting Plugins

When you have impressed the search engines and your visitors, you want some WordPress plugins that help boost your business.

9. Popup Domination

Many bloggers think popups are frowned on.  But many high earning bloggers find this plugin extremely effective.  According to Yaro Starak of Entrepreneurs-Journey, this plugin has helped increase his opt-in rate by 150%.  It's also known for increasing the subscription rate by up to 400%.  It comes with various attractive templates and guides to help you build your list.

Your visitors are greeted with a user-friendly box where you can promote your product or free offer to your potential subscribers.  Within the box you can list the benefits of your product or free offer to new visitors to your blog.

10. Widget Context

This is one of my favorite free WordPress plugins that's very handy if you want to dictate which pages or posts show which sidebar widgets.

With this plugin you can tailor which widgets to show based on the word counts, categories, tags, etc. of a post.  This is perfect if you have a specific ad, product offering, or list signup that you want to present to a targeted prospects. So the outcome is an increased conversion and more cohesive content.

That's it, 10 of my favorite WordPress plugins.  This is by no means an exhaustive list, it helps to get you started and you can add some more WordPress plugins to your list as you go to further improve your blog to raise its search rankings, drive more targeted traffic, and increase your conversions.

  1. This is amazing I’ve just written a post called 10 Top WordPress Plugins for SEO. Most of my collection are recommenced and as well lots of people recommenced WordPress users.

    1. Thanks for your comment Ferb. I’m sure there are more WordPress plugins for SEO that are recommended by WP users. I’ll be reading your post about it.
      Janus

    2. I couldn’t agree more that WordPress is one of the easiest CMS blogging content platforms to use on a dedicated server 🙂

    3. I just click your link to check out your post about WordPress search engine optimization plug-ins. it says “page not found”. Did you delete the blog post? 🙂

  2. Great plugins indeed Janus. I have used them all with the exception of Widget Context, where I preferred to use Dynamic Widgets instead. They are basically the same, although I think that Dynamic Widgets has better settings and is also free. Coincidentally I have also written a post about SEO plugins and I am convinced that with your recommended plugins in addition to perhaps some that I also recommend are more than enough for users to improve their WordPress on-page SEO.. Awesome stuff!

    1. Thanks DiTesco. I’ve read your post on The Best WP SEO Plugins for 2012 Part 1, and think that they are a great addition for WP users who want to improve on-page SEO. I’ll take check out Dynamic Widgets as well.

    2. DiTesco,

what other search engine optimization and web promotions do you deploy in your site promotional efforts? 🙂

      1. Hi Drewry. Essentially, I apply the most ethical standards in search optimization. The article below is a good place to start 🙂

  3. Nice list though I much prefer the SEO for WordPress plugin by Yoast, perhaps not as poular as the All-in-One but it offers far more options and tools for analysing how well your on-page SEO efforts are. I also use CommentLuv, great plugin.

    1. Thanks Fabrizio. Now you’re the second person who also recommends SEO by Yoast. I’ll check it out to see the difference. Also, I find that your post about integrating WP blogs with Facebook and Twitter very useful.

  4. Great plugins list specially no Scribe Seo and Comment Luv have it’s own popularity by the way recently trust all SEO pack plugin but the site gone slow with activating it.

    1. Thanks Rizwan for your comment. I’m not sure about all-in-one SEO pack slowing down the site. I wonder if SEO by Yoast works better in this aspect.

    2. I am really digging the comment LUV SEO plug-in WordPress blogs, because it really helps a lot of people to get an extra backlink back to a specific post 🙂

  5. Good list. I just wanna add one more important plugin: Backup. If something goes wrong (and it often does), its good to have a backup plan. Backup Buddy seems to be a good choice but its not cheap. A cheaper solution (havent found one free and good backup plugin so far) is backupcreator.

    1. Yes, backup is definitely needed. I use Online Backup For WordPress which is free and I’m sure it can’t beat Backup Buddy. Thanks for your recommendation Rick.

    2. I agree, Rick. That’s why I had a backup plan and I started working on plan B immediately, because I already knew plan A wasn’t going to work 🙂

  6. I enjoy coming across posts like this because I always find at least one decent plugin that I had never heard of before. From reading your post I have discovered Scribe SEO, I shall put it on my list of premium plugins that I want bought for me for my birthday. 😛

    1. I also learn about a couple of recommended plugins by other commenters for this guest post. This is a great way of exchanging knowledge and experience. Thanks Dean.

  7. Great list …

Truly said, these plugins help a lot to improve our blogs. My likes for #1,2,4,5,6,7 in the list

  8. Thanks. One more hint for the beginner webmasters – always check the changelog before installing a plugin. Try to use actively developed plugins instead of more feature-rich but rarely updated plugs to avoid headache while updating/upgrading your wordpress installation.

You may also check out other old and actively developed wordpress plugins in addition to the list above: (link removed by Ileane – please use the CommentLuv field to add your links. If you want to link to sales pages, get CommentLuv Premium)

  9. Kimberly Gauthier

I love WordPress for the plugins, but I’m always concerned about adding them, because I worry about how they’ll impact the speed of my blogs. Can we have 10, 20 – what’s the magic number that won’t make my site crawl? I’m certain that it all just depends, but it does make me pause before downloading 🙂

Thanks for this great list. I’ll be referencing it in the future.

    1. Hi Kimberly,

Good question, I’ve searched the WordPress support forum and found the following reply to a similar question (too many plugins = slow wordpress?):

“It’s possible, but more than likely there’s one plugin that’s causing the bulk of the slowness. Try decativating all plugins. If that improves the load time, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.”

You can read the post here: Too Many Plugins Slow WordPress.

    1. You are right, integrating WP blogs with social media is definitely important! Maybe I’ll work on another post about that. Thank you.

  10. I’m already using several of these plugins, but #10, Widget Context, looks particularly interesting. Thanks for the tips!

  11. Hostgator told me directly to uninstall AllinOneSeo plugin and to use Gregs High Power SEO plugin instead as there were some issues with AllinOne.

    1. It seems that Gregs High Performance SEO has more superior features than most SEO plugins.

Based on the profile of this plugin, it allows you to configure more than 100 separate on-page characteristics (in contrast to 20 provided by other popular SEO plugins) that are important for SEO.

This plugin is worth checking into. Thanks Caleb.

  12. Good posts and I’m sure this will help many others in improving there rank. I’ve been using many above listed plugins since long time. 🙂

  13. These are great suggestions – I definitely need to replace my “Subscribe To Comments” plug-in with the “CommentLuv” plug-in! I would also suggest the ‘Facebook Like Thumbnail’ plug-in. It allows you to designate a default image to go with your link when it’s posted on Facebook when you don’t have an image associated with your post.

  14. well, its be a nice for wordpress user.. but it poor for blogger user like me,,

i just cant hope that blogger added plugin feature..

    anyway,, nice tips mam..
    thank you

  15. Hi Janus,

Threaded comment and widget context are something that I am after. My theme currently is clashing with the nested comment function in WordPress so hopefully threaded comment will help. Also, I assume widget context will allow you to display specified ads on specified pages / posts, unlike the typical sidebar widget, which shows the image on every single page?

For All in One SEO, I have already replaced it with WordPress SEO due to the hosting staff complaint about the plugin, which drains a lot of resources and causing some problems for the server…

    1. Hi Ming,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, widget context allows you to specify widget visibility settings so you can display specified ads on specified pages and posts.

It seems that WordPress SEO by Yoast has its advantage over All-In_one SEO and quite a few people are using it instead.

  16. Indeed, such great plugins you got there.

I’m excited to try them on my blog and see traffic increase.

SEO is so powerful that it should be done by all bloggers.

  17. check out these WordPress and blogging rap lines…LOL

    WordPress, RSS,SEO & .php…

They see me sitting pretty, like vintage ads In Time Sq., Manhattan, along with Bloomberg and HSBC TV. I’m a marketing artist and a lyrical arsonist with a creative art to this, whose mental politics gets spiritually explicit 🙂

    I was just warming up… LOL 🙂

      1. dat’s nuffin. SON is just getting warmed up. i’m from Flatbush , Brooklyn. yesssssssssssssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! =)

        LOL

  18. What about the W3 Total plugin, it’s one the best plugin if you are in a shared hosting and having good amount of traffic. Helped me a lot when I was in shared hosting.

    1. It’s not that I am against AllinOne, just that I have an actual email from HostGator after going through a bit of “server drama” where they told me to uninstall AllinOneSEO and to install Gregs HP SEO instead (among other settings they instructed me on). If I had the space here or if Ileane would allow, I’d paste that email in here…

    2. As for W3TC, at first HostGator said that one was better then they came back a couple of weeks later and wrote that “after recent testings” they found WP Super to be better (I have those emails as well). Also if you go on W3TC’s WordPress page you’ll see some ppl have really had some strange problems.

But hey it’s all technology which of course can never be perfect.

    1. One of the rewards I get from this guest post is that I learn about a few plugins recommended by other WordPress users. WordPress SEO by Yoast is one of them. Thank you Eddie.

  19. Megan R. Stinson

Great list of plug ins! I’m so going to install 1 or 2 plug-ins you have review here! Great job!

  20. Hi Janus,

Great list of plugins. I’m going to be trying SEO by Yoast, I’ve been thinking about using it for some time but having seen so many people say that they’re using it and happy has twisted my arm.

I have commentluv (premium) and love it 😉

I also used to use WP Threaded comment and thought it was excellent. I recently changed themes and the new theme covered the job so I removed WP Threaded comment. If anyone is unsure of it, I can highly recommend it.

Thanks for putting your list together Janus

    Barry

    1. Hi Barry,

Thank you. I’m also thinking about using WordPress SEO by Yoast since so many people are using and recommend it.

I like your blog and will be back to read more of your posts.

      Janus

  21. WordPress is the bomb, as well as the assortment of all their free search engine optimization plug-ins 🙂

  22. Thanks for this list. I am going to check out the Threaded Comments. It looks pretty cool. What has been your experience?

  23. Hi Ileane,

I just purchased the SEO Pressor and have written my first post with it. It is amazing! I am so glad you posted about it. Thank you! Sally

  24. Hi Ng (and Ileane),
Great list thanks for sharing. I found one or 2 that I didn’t know about. As somebody mentioned, a good backup plugin should be added. I’m sure people know about VaultPress. I also found one that would backup to DropBox.
What about Akismet for spam — or is this one too obvious. I would also add a good Caching plugin like WP Cache,
    HOWEVER,
be very careful because obviously the more you add the slower you site becomes.

Hopefully I’ll see some of you at WordCamp in Atlanta: http://clickho.st/WPc2012

    Cheers,
    Carel of ClickHOST.com

    1. Hi Carel,

I’m also using Akismet for spam and have used WP Cache, just didn’t want make the list too long.

      Thanks for the suggestions!

    2. I’d recommend W3 Total Cache over WP Cache; so much more to offer. It can cache database queries, minify css/javascript and can even hook into CDN systems like CloudFlare.

  25. Good plugins are important for a successful WordPress website. I just wanted to know if there are any free plugins among these.

  26. hi Janus,
Thanks for sharing these plugins,Since I am about to move on a self hosted blog.It will really help me in setting up my blog.

  27. hello to everyone at basic blog tips,

just wanted to stop by and say happy Friday to everyone here at this wonderful site, before going to lunch at almost 1 PM. Today, I’m going to get in some good cardiovascular exercise, in addition to enjoying some delicious Szechuan buffet. Just wanted to stop by and say hello to everyone, before dashing out and going to lunch. I’ll be back later on to engage more with the wonderful basic blog tips community. I love it here 🙂

  28. Nice list, I use most of them except All in one SEO. I use WordPress SEO by Yoast, its a great SEO plugin and does some more stuff like RSS feed header and footer, XML sitemap. So it actually replace few plugins from the list.

    1. Thanks Sanjeev for letting those non-WP SEO users (including myself) know about its additional features compared to All-in-one SEO.

  29. Hey janus,

I’m working on a WordPress blog at the minute and all of these plugins are making my mouth water. I think the keyword related posts plugin is going to be most useful for me, but all the others are great as well.

  30. in the past, I’ve heard about Yoast SEO WordPress plug-in, it never really looked further into it. Why do you feel it’s better than the all-in-one search engine optimization WP plug-in? 🙂

  31. Great article. I run three blogs and have three of the above Plugins installed on all of them – CommentLuv, All in One SEO and XML Sitemaps. I will have to look into the others too to see if I can improve my blogs further. Thanks for the info.

  32. This is a Great List for plug-ins that we are looking for. I’ll be sticking in your post for more updates and latest on blogs.

  33. I have seen an informative site. You always like to add very informative stuff for your readers. This article is one of them. Thanks for sharing this knowledge.

  34. Thanks for the heads up on the plugins. I just installed Dynamic widgets, the one you mentioned Widget Context unfortunately hasnt been tested on 3.3
    Graham

    1. Yes I realize that, and someone else is also recommending Dynamic widgets. I’ll check it out. Thanks for your comment Graham.

  35. I’m curious to know how many WordPress bloggers launch their blog and got down to less than 100,000 on Alexa in United States less than a year 🙂

  36. I use most of the plugins above. These plugins do help us to organize our blog, help us get a better ranking in serps and get more traffic/subscribers.

Popup domination is a great software to use. But, I prefer WPsubscribers because they offer a lot more features for the price of $47 (The new version of Popup domination – 3.0 costs about $87 – that’s with reduction). So I think WPsubscribers is a better option 😀

  37. I have some of them installed on my blog and I learn others first before uploading them. Oh ya some of the are paid plugin and seems very powerful and I will try, thanks for sharing..

  38. Holly Jahangiri

I use some of the plug-ins above, but not all – you’ve listed a few here that I need to check out! Thanks – always good to have trusted recommendations before delving in. I recently had one innocuous plug-in go all rogue on me and shut down my site for a bit until the host determined which one it was, and blew it away!

Hey, Ms. Ileane, the post below is from a friend of mine who would very much appreciate it if you’d go let him know what you think of it. 🙂 (Yep, part of my New Year’s Resolutions is to support others in reaching their goals, and to focus on others for a bit after that 10 week festival of self-centeredness that left me with a new frog–er, blog–to feed! 😉 That was fun – I still grin thinking about that interview with you. Thanks again for all you’ve done to support the TNG team!)

    1. Hi Holly, I wanted to chime in here and say that I really support what you are doing and I’ve been a fan of Abhi since way back when he was on Blogger 🙂 I tweeted and shared that post in the past, but I just added it to JustRetweet so that he can get more exposure. I also voted on Blog Engage and Blokube (long time ago)….
      Thanks for everything my dear!

      1. Ms. Ileane,

what you doing up so early @ close to 5 AM on a Monday morning? 🙂

“Just being nosy in a friendly way” 🙂

        LOL

      2. What????? I think I should clear my lens and wash my eyes. If you said I’ve been a fan of Abhi” then probably I am in a dream.

To be very true, Basic Blog Tips is the blog which is ideal for me. And two top ladies – Holly and Ileane, likes my blog and supporting me, then I think I got it.

Thank you very much both of you.

        1. Hey, if I’m not dreaming, you’d better be awake. 😉

(Teasing you, since it’s usually your dinnertime comments I see first thing in my morning, Abhi! LOL)

How could we not be fans of Abhi??

        1. Yeah, I gave up that label, and you know that very well. But even after being professional I cannot reach TOP so easily but I am doing my best to be there.

  39. that’s exactly why I love using WordPress, because there are so many additional free plug-ins to install, as well as WordPress advice to help WP bloggers get ahead in their blogging efforts 🙂

  40. I would recommend all “related articles” plugins. Its great usability and Google loves the links between articles. Highligting keywords with plugings is often a bit confusing i think.

  41. i am new to the internet marketing, well not really new…. what i am so frustrating about IM is the promotion part, which is i prefer to promote my site by doing SEO, and building backlink part is the one makes me frustrating, can also share how you do SEO to your site?

  42. Good selection. I’ve installed Intensedebate that has Commentluv integrated with it. Do you think that’ll be good or do I need to install commentluv only?

  43. a question for Ms. Ileane…

Do you know or think the intense debate WordPress plug-in is good for SEO, in terms of the comments we indexed by search engines and linking back to your site? 🙂

  44. This is a useful list, but I must drop in my two cents and say that I much prefer WordPress SEO to AIOSEOP. It’s so much more advanced and well written. AIOSEOP does the basics well, but it doesn’t go much further than the basics. WordPress SEO for instance also handles XML Sitemaps, so that’s point 1 and 2 in your list combined already.

    1. I’m sure WordPress SEO has its advantage over AIOSEOP, other than that it handles XML sitemaps as well. Thanks for the mention Dave.

  45. this is why I love commenting on basic blog tips, because everyone here is friendly and very helpful 🙂

  46. Good stuff! I think I have a few of these already, SEO Presser is GREAT ! My rankings have gone completely crazy, fast with this plugin. I just recently (December 1st 2011) switched to WP and this was the first and only plugin I’ve purchased, best $100 I’ve ever spent…Thanks for your tips!

  47. What a GREAT article – I agree with most SEO plugins, tools, etc that will help a blog, however I’m not too keen on those that link inside the content…especially when they somehow have no relevance to the content you are reading. I plan to try the Scribe SEO, wish me luck!

  48. Good list of plugins.

Another great plugin is WP Paginate. It adds a nice little numerical page navigation, instead of WordPress default.

  49. Great list…I like Seo by Yoast for complete Seo ..it include xml sitemap and Robot meta tag, we can verify Bing and google webmaster tool. Really worthful for wordpress Blogs..

  50. Thanks for that list and I was happy to see I already use 5 of them!

I disagree about pop-up boxes but then that’s probably why I’m on a 5 figure rather than six figure income!!

  51. it seems as if search engine optimization is a hot topic around the Internet. However, I really love discussing search engine optimization on basic blog tips. This is why I comment on this blog often, because there’s so much valuable knowledge here 🙂

  52. Hi Janus,

Thanks for a great post, having looked at it I will definately be implementing SEOPressor. I also hate popups but what you have said about conversions with popup domination has made me think again about using that.

    Cheers,
    Elaine

  53. Network publisher is also a GREAT wordpress plugin ! This should be on the list !

It’s a Plugin that automatically updates your fb pages , twitter , and other 30+ social bookmarking pages !

  54. Allways used All-In-One SEO Pack WordPress Plugins package. To be honest it’s only thing I need for my wordpress blogs for SEO. Anyway thanks for sharing

  55. shortly after installing the WordPress all-in-one SEO plug-in on one of my WP blogs, every new post gets indexed by Google in less than 5 min. 🙂

  56. I’m using most of the plugins listed here but some are missing which now I think that is also important, so gonna install that too. anyway thanks for list these plugins and hope to read more article from you.
    Thanks,

  57. Thank you so much for this just installed google sitemap and the widget context must say it is a great little tool highly recommend to everyone.

  58. Salutations-

Great article. I am going to try SEO Smart Links but I do have one question. In your article it says it determines keywords. What criteria does it use? Also are you able to put that in manually?

    Once again great article.

    thnks!

  59. when it comes to [downloading and installing WordPress on your dedicated server], and having an assortment of WordPress plug-ins available to you free of charge, you just have to be thankful for free open-source CMS software that’s still available on the World Wide Web. The good thing about having WordPress plug-ins and WP-blogs available to download for free is that those who are unemployed, or making a career change, can start up their self hosted blog at no cost [only for the exception of paying for their domain name and web server]. I’m glad the internet is around, as well as wonderful opportunities to make the best of it, by way of self-publishing with WordPress, and wonderful plug-ins to enhance your WordPress blogging functionality 🙂

  60. Installing plugins might make your live easier, but installing too many WordPress plugins might decrease, not increase, your productivity. You just have to keep testing and in a while you’ll understand what’s useful and what’s superfluous.

  61. Ok that’s great. According to my knowledge The WordPress Maintenance are .Back Up,Checking Plugins,Updating etc..WordPress,Check Your Links,Improving Security etc..1) Backup your database and your files. You can use a number of plugins (Backup buddy is a good one) to do this, or if you trust your hosting company, there is often a file and database backup utility within your cpanel.2) Update plugins. This one is easy. Go to your plugins and look for any that need to be updated. All you need to do is click the update button and you’re done.3) Make sure you have the latest version of WordPress. WordPress will tell you on your dashboard if you need to upgrade. Simply follow the instructions – it’s not difficult.4) If you’re not using the akismet plugin, you can get it here – AKISMET . This will protect your site from spam.

  62. Pretty much a few of the same ones I have added for my article of the top wordpress plugins.

Every plugin needs to be evaluated by yourself and seen if it works for you.

  63. I am using most of these plugins but I haven’t used pop-up domination because i think it looks odd on site.
And is it real that it increases interaction 400% ? It doesnt hamper user experince?

  64. I really like the plugin above
Especially the plugin: All-In-One SEO Pack WordPress Plugins is a very powerful seo plugin supports .
Google XML Sitemaps will help google to index your website faster
    Thanks your post!

  65. Nice collection Janus. Google xml sitemap, SEO smart links, Commentluv and SEO friendly images are my favorite WordPress plugins.
Thanks for sharing the list with us!

  66. Amazing post. But i think the best way to improve a wordpress website is either design a custom theme or use a good theme from reputable theme provider. Most of times people end up having class C websites because they buy themes from unknown theme provider and use endless plugins to get what they want to do with their website.

  67. Great post Ms. Ileane. If you’re an affiliate marketer I would add “Redirection” to the list of WordPress plugins. This is just a simple plugin that cloaks your affiliate links and tracks clicks on them as well. This is a good thing to do to prevent from a lot of naked affiliate links being out there on your site. It will clean them up and it will look to Google a little bit less suspect. And, at the same time, it’s going to allow you to create a lot of different affiliate links for different posts on your site, different positions on different posts, so that you know always which link is being clicked, which product is being bought and which piece of content and which link of yours is actually doing the selling. 😉
